I'm confused about why this book is on Net Galley since it appears to have been previously released. I can see how this might be good to have for reluctant readers, especially those who want a lot of action. I was not a fan of the writing style. One thing that was odd to me was the British (?) colloquialisms and norms in what otherwise seemed to be a story set in a small, rural American town. |
It's action and adventure in this fast paced story about how quickly things can spiral out of control. Jack loves to code. He creates an app that he thinks will tell when someone's lying and uploads it to a small forum for beta testing. When a reporter writes about it, it quickly goes viral, and Jack finds himself in big trouble... This is a fast paced read, perfect for reluctant readers or teens who don't have much time. There are a lot of references to story elements that don't appear in this book, like the strange rich man or Anya's sister. Presumably they'll be in other books in the series. I enjoyed this. There's not a lot of depth, matching the fast pace, but there's space for a few surprises and a couple of Chekov's guns. I'd definitely read more from this author. |
I found this book to be very slow at first and then it picked up around the half-way mark. It was boring for the first half, but the second half was definitely very interesting. I enjoyed reading this book. I so cannot wait for book 2! |
The Truth App by Jack Heath|book review| fictiveescapes Book Reviews, Book Reviews January 2, 2020 1 Minute This is another Australian book that has been provided to me by NetGalley; sure am getting a lot of those lately it feels like… Yay for spreading the love of books across continents. The e-arc that I received had the new American cover- very sleek and modern similarly to the premise of the novel. The book will be out February 25,2020. Preorder or use the link below to help support this blog. Amazon Jarlie creates an app that is able to tell if someone is lying or not, and deadly hi-jinks ensue. That the basic plot if I say anymore I am worried about giving away key plot points. I will say that the pot could have developed a lot more with the truth app. It’s just kind of briefly talked about and then the deadly plot completely takes over. I enjoyed the characters a lot. Especially the three kids: Jarlie, Bess, and Anya. Bess and Anya were my favorites. Bess uses crutches to get around and Anya is a Russian Immigrant whose second language is English. Both girls are strong capable characters throughout the plot and don’t get looked down upon at all. So far there are four other novels in this series and I will be trying my best to track them down. I want to know what happens since of course the evil guys are shown to be a small piece of a much larger organization. This reads like a middle grade novel and the plot is continuously action packed. Thank You NetGalley for introducing me to a new quick read series. |
