I really enjoyed this book and the plot kept getting stronger with each page I read.
The book shows the dark side of societies reliance on social media and the negative impact it can have on families.
It’s a fresh, modern plot with some fantastic writing. I’ll definitely be looking out for more of this authors books in future.

Thank you NetGalley and Quercus Books for the ARC.

Another novel that hit on today's dependence on Social Media! Violet Young is a vlogger and shares a lot of her life, then suddenly she goes dark. She has fans but with fame come haters, so when she suddenly goes dark, rumors automatically start. Was it a crazy fan or was it her husband.

Lily is Violet's number one fan. She lost her husband and has a toddler. She is obessed with Violet as she feels that Violet is the only one who "gets" her.

Then we have Yvonne who has a younger husband who suffers from male infertility. Yvonne enjoys Violet's vlog "Violent is Blue" and she also frequents other websites. But she also seems a little crazy as well. I really liked how the book was written from Lily, Yvonne and Violets sleezy husband. The book is a super quick read as you keep wanting more!

It's the age of social media influencers and instagramming everything from what you had to breakfast to how blue the sky is or whatever...For Violet, videoblogging her life as a young mom of three has become a way of life. She has thousands and thousands of followers. Some love her, some hate her, but one person has it out for her....When one day, Violet disappears from the public eye and deletes all her social media accounts, it is clear that something major has happened...

I love reading books with a social media twist, and this book gets major points on that score. You may think the trolls you meet on Facebook and Twitter are harmless, but you don't actually know them while they know all about you. Super scary!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.

3.5 ⭐️

I thoroughly enjoyed the writing and also highly enjoyed reading the parts of Henry and Yvonne. I do wish that the story followed more on the two of them and less on Lily though.
I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve been reading so many thrillers lately, but this one just didn’t completely do it for me. I think that because this was categorized as a “thriller” that was what I was expecting.
It did have a very intriguing premise though, I’m a huge fan of YouTube. I do also watch some “mommy vloggers” which could have been one of the major reasons as to why a story like this enticed me.
I do however think that someone new to mysteries may enjoy this a lot.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy for an exchange of an honest review.

*Thanks to NetGalley and Quercus for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* This book looks at the rise of the social media 'influencer' and the false world they can create. The novel focusses on Yummy Mummy vlogger, Violet Young who shares the lives of her perfect family with the whole world. She is followed by many fans online who cannot get enough of her. So what happens when she suddenly stops posting? How do her multitude of fans cope with being cut off cold turkey from their Violet fix? The book is told from a number of perspectives and makes for a compelling and timely read. If we don't post it on social media, did it really happen?

Publisher’s description: You can't stop watching her.

Violet Young is a hugely popular journalist-turned-mummy-influencer, with three children, a successful husband and a million subscribers on YouTube who tune in daily to watch her everyday life unfold.

Until the day she's no longer there.

But one day she disappears from the online world - her entire social media presence deleted overnight, with no explanation. Has she simply decided that baring her life to all online is no longer a good idea, or has something more sinister happened to Violet?

But do you really know who Violet is?

Her fans are obsessed with finding out the truth, but their search quickly reveals a web of lies, betrayal, and shocking consequences...

************
“Unfollow Me” by Charlotte Duckworth is a great thriller that preys heavily on the current obsession with social media, Internet influencers and their trolls, and YouTube celebrity.

Violet is a “mommy vlogger” with a huge following for her YouTube channel born out of her own battle with postpartum depression. Her videos document her life as well as those of her husband Henry and their three daughters.

I enjoyed the pace of this book, told primarily from the perspectives of Lily and Yvonne, two of Violet’s most diehard (obsessed) fans. There are a handful of chapters thrown in from Henry’s POV as well as a couple from Violet herself. It was a little confusing in some parts, and none of the characters are likable, but in this situation, that works.

Not wanting to give anything away (there is a lot to uncover here), I knocked it down a star because I expected Violet’s disappearance from social media to have a more sinister reason behind it, and I think the other character story lines wrapped up a little too neatly. All in all, though, a great read worth picking up.

Absolutely brilliant. A fresh take on the internet, stalking and obsession. I think everyone will recognise something in this.
Seriously so pleased I’ve bought copies for my mum and daughter and ordered other books.
Love it when I find a great new author!
5/5 on goodreads

Really interesting read. This book delves into the complex world of social media and how the perception of an online persona can actually be so far from the truth that it’s like what you see couldn’t be further from the truth in a world where every moment is documented and posted how real is someone’s obsession? It all comes to light when Violet disappears from social media. But her online life was not at all fitting to the reality of this woman looking to escape the scrutiny of her obsessive fan base. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review. Very interesting plot and storyline.

Good writing, strong characters, funny, with a fast paced plot and a satisfying ending. Lots of plausible suspects in this mystery, and it kept me interested and reading quickly! That's all you can really ask for in this "domestic thriller" genre that has gotten a bit bogged down with shallow, predictable books (usually with the word "girl" in the title).

Initially when I first started this book I worried it was going to be a little cliche - just a little light thriller read, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

A dark, cautious commentary on the current influencer trend, this turned out to be a layered novel with lots of twists - that kept me guessing over and over.

The characters were deep and believable, the subject matter handled well and very topical - the #metoo movement highlighted, and the warnings of looking at the snapshots posted on social media as the true image of someone's life.

I would highly recommend and would read more by this author.

Thank you for the chance to read and review this ARC. I enjoyed the book and the suspense kept me going throughout but it ended so abruptly. I thought it was a rush to tie up all the loose ends and it left Lily's story unfinished. I would love to see a sequel.

Violet starts a YouTube channel in an effort to recover from post natal depression. As time goes on, she does recover, but her goals for the channel have shifted to include raking in the loot from sponsors and adoration from fans. Oh, yeah, there's also the vitriol from the haters. Through her followers, readers learn more about Violet's real life with her perfect husband. Compelling.

This was a good book, but it felt a bit dragged out in some parts. It was overall an enjoyable read. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

Mummy vlogger Violet has disappeared. All of her social media accounts have been wiped, but her husband is going about his life like nothing is wrong. Her fans are desperate to know what has happened to Violet and over the course of the book secrets are exposed and lies are unravelled.

This story is told in alternating POV of single mother Lily, and Yvonne, who is desperately trying to get pregnant. There are a few chapters dotted through from the POV of Violet's husband, Henry.

My last read of 2019 and sad to say it was a bit of a dud for me. I didn't like any of the characters in this book, and that always makes it hard for me to get through. Yvonne is made up of awful characteristics, and Lily is just a bad person. I felt by the end of the book neither of them had any character growth.

There was nothing wrong with the actual writing - it was twisty and mysterious, I just feel like the plot was a bit weaker than what was promised. From the other online reviews I've seen so far I think I'm in the minority though, so if it's the kind of story you'd be into I'd suggest checking out some other reviews.

I tried to like this book but it just didn't do it for me. I probably would have DNF'd if not for the fact it was one I got through Netgalley for free in exchange for a review, and I promised myself I would get through the books sitting on my Netgalley shelf before I go back to work.

2 stars.

This was just OK. Barley. I struggled to get through it because I was just bored and so not interested by the time I got to the half way mark. Based on the sypnosis, this sounded like I would absolutely LOVE it. It sounded like the perfect book for me but unfortunately it wasn't. I found it to be creepy and not in a good way. It just reminded me how much people do actually stalk other online and how so much of what use to be considered as our 'private lives' isn't as such any more. It makes me want to be even more of an introvert and to delete what little of me is on social media. Is book wasn't entertaining and I found it a bit too dull. Not much seemed to happen and I didn't feel a connection the characters. But, it wasn't a bad story. It wasn't awful. It just wasn't for me.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book took me 11 days to finish, which is unheard of for me. It’s hard to put my finger on what exactly didn’t vibe well with me, but one of the main reasons is that the book is told in a multi-person perspective (which I typically enjoy) however each Person’s voice wasn’t distinctive enough which made it extremely hard to follow.

I love domestic thrillers, but this falls near the bottom of ones I’ve read and enjoyed.

The story follows a mommy vlogger who has millions of followers. One day she deletes all of her social media platforms and ghosts the community she’s worked to build. The book winds and wanders until we learn at the end exactly why she went dark.

Unfollow Me was very interesting from
a social media perspective. I just wanted a bit more twists. Too predictable. Fun, entertaining quick read.

I really liked the plot for this book - it grabbed my attention right away by giving me questions I needed answers to. It also felt relevant to the online influencing culture that we are constantly surrounded by, and gave the reader a glimpse into what that choice and lifestyle is like.

The fact that it was narrated by multiple characters kept me wondering what their ties were throughout the book, and I liked that as well. I was a bit confused in the end about their connection and felt that one of the characters wasn’t really necessary.

There were good surprises, twists and turns but in the end it didn’t surprise me that much which is why I am giving this one a 4/5.

This book is certainly up to date with the times we currently live in, whilst social media definitely has its good points, it certainly also has some bad points. But then I guess that depends how much of yourself you put out there. Just writing a book review is something that wasn’t done as I grew up, not even sure how it would have been done then, I guess word of mouth. I only know of some of the Vlogs and “influencers” through my daughter, who whilst pregnant and after having her son, has followed other mums.

Violet Young is an “influencer” with a huge following on social media, her very popular mummy vlog, Violet is Blue, which she began to help other mums deal with, or even recognise postpartum depression, some women don’t always realise they have until months after having had a child. The problem with having a huge amount of followers, is that it can also come with a lot of haters, who make nasty comments, each and everyday, if you are struggling with any type of depression at the same time some of these comments can be hard to overlook.

It appears a follower knows more about Violet than she would like, her personal email address where she is being harassed more, the person states if Violet puts all the information out there, then she is asking for someone to follow the trail, and find her, seems whoever knows all about her.

People like 40 year old Yvonne who desperately wanted to have children with her younger husband Simon, but it’s not meant to be, as Simon is infertile, Yvonne turns to Violet is Blue as well as other websites and chat rooms.

Then Violets #1 fan is Lily a young widow, with a 3 year old son, since losing her husband she has struggled with depression, before losing her husband and having a child, Lily had friends, and hope, but now she has no one and nothing, so has turned to watching Violet to fill the void, she believes that Violet knows her, understands her and what she is going through. But does she really?

The story is told through three points of view, Lily, Yvonne and Henry, Violet’s shady husband. With alternating chapters from these characters, the story begins to unfold, with dark secrets, are these three connected? If so in what way?

Henry and Violet seem to have the perfect life to anyone looking in, Henry is successful, Violet is popular on her online sites, they have 3 children. But is everything that is shown online as good as it seems, after all people show what they want people to see, no one really knows what goes on offline or behind closed doors, only what you want them to know.

One day Violet is there, online, then she disappears, as does all her social media presence, everything is deleted. With no explanation, what has happened to Violet? This is the question fans discuss on forums, where things can be twisted, how fickle are fans, they go from liking someone until a little doubt turns them. Without knowing the truth.

This is a well written, clever twisty story, with some nice and not so nice characters, a great fast pace, the pages fly by as you get so engrossed in the story, this is the authors second book, I for one will be watching out for her next read.

I would like to thank #netgalley and #Crookedlanebooks for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest, fair and unbiased review.
