‘Often, when we love someone, we assume they love us back...’ - Her Perfect Lies - Lara Newton.

Firstly, there were a few inconsistencies with this book at the start that I don’t think made any sense and I wondered whether I’d enjoy the book at all, I stuck with it, although it was slow at times.

However, as the story started to unravel I found myself fully invested in Claire’s little world and finding out what was happening. Everytime I thought I knew who the ‘bad guy’ was something else happened that made me question that... but it turned out that towards the end my suspicions were correct - although just slightly off the mark.

I feel like the main part of this book and the ending where actually very anticlimactic and the build up was a lot better.

I did enjoy the book but would probably only recommend to somebody who wants to read a first thriller.

Three stars purely because at one point I was gripped and wasn’t sure which way the story was going to go.

This was a suspenseful and quick read! I enjoyed every moment of this! Claire's journey to discover the events of the accident that put her in the hospital captivated me.

I'm going to say that this was OK, an easy read that I found predictable, the beginning was better than the end found the story very slow, I kept hoping that it was going to get interesting but it never happened!

How are you supposed to carry on with your life after you are discharged from hospital if you have recollection of what your previous life consisted of? That's the situation our main protagonist Claire finds herself in after she suffers a traumatic brain injury resulting in total amnesia following a car accident with her father Tony. She has no memories of the accident or her life before... her family, her childhood or her marriage to husband Paul but yet she's expected to go home and carry on with her life even if she doesn't know what that entails.

What follows is a claustrophobic thriller as Claire's attempts to try and regain her memory by searching for anything that might help her remember events of her past but the more she discovers, the more she realises that not everything is as it seems. And that many of those closest to her are lying to her making it even harder for her to establish who she is and, more importantly, who she can really trust.

From the outset I, like Claire, was trying to work out what was going on as nothing seemed to make sense regarding the situation she was in. Why did Paul hardly visit her in the hospital and has a separate bedroom if they had a loving marriage? Why did Tony say that Claire wasn't in the car when she clearly was? Where is her mother and why has she not returned knowing her husband and daughter are seriously ill in hospital? And as for Gaby, Claire's best friend, just what is her story as there's definitely more than she is telling? So many questions that needed answering and it's only over time that the truth is slowly revealed and we, like Claire, get the answers.

I really felt for Claire as she struggled with her feeling of helplessness at her situation. She seemed to be a prisoner in her own home as Paul was controlling her medication, her activities and who she could see for her own protection. But all it did is make her feel even more out of control and the bad nightmares, that don't make sense to her, are not helping the situation which prompts her to take matters into her own hands to try and regain the lost memories. But maybe sometimes it's best to leave some memories in the past as it might make you realise that your life wasn't so perfect after all.

Claire really was the perfect unreliable narrator as you didn't know what was fact from fiction as everything unfolded. She was a character that had you feeling sorry for her one minute, but then not liking her the next as we discovered more about her, and then back to feeling empathy for her again.

Her Perfect Lies was an intense read from start to finish. One minute I thought I had it all worked out and then when everything came to a head I realised I was totally wrong. Well played Lana Newton, I can't wait to see what you have in store for us readers next.

The premise of this book is great: woman wakes up in hospital after and accident with no memory of who she is. a promise to be thrilling. And twisty and turny. But no. It was clear what was going to happen and I did not enjoy the writing style of this at all.
Not for me, although someone looking for a tamer and more predictable thriller would enjoy it!

Claire Wright wakes up in the same hospital as her father after they are in an apparent accident together.. but Claire remembers nothing about it, nor anything about herself or her life.

Her father and her have different versions of the accident, and she can't remember the last time she's seen her mother. Her husband, Paul, takes her "home" to their huge mansion where he and her best friend Gaby, begin to tell her about her happy marriage and life.. and then she finds evidence that that is not the case.. She feels that her parents can be her only saviors, but even they are sketchy characters.

I found this book to be a very fast, very intriguing read! Every character may or may not be hiding something and/or lying to Claire about her life. It will keep you guessing until the end!

Thank you to HQ Stories for sending me a copy of the book and allowing me to take part in the blog tour. All views and opinions discussed here are my own.

I do like a good amnesia thriller because it always starts with an intense pace; when a character can't remember most or aspects of their life you know there are going to be a number of twists and turns presented throughout the book to shock and move the character. This book was not without its turns and plot twists; some of which i'd guessed early on, others not quite so much.

I did fly through this book; it's a real easy reader and is one I managed to read in one sitting so I definitely give praise to the author for that.

Unfortunately for me I just didn't gel with this book; I don't know if it's because i've read too many thrillers lately or whether authors are just going along similar plotlines but I found the pacing of the book quite odd and some chapters felt very choppy. I honestly don't feel like the book flowed that well for the reader and it just all seemed a bit over the place. Not only that but the character motivations and character developments were just confusing; Claire goes from being someone who hasn't spoken to her housekeeper for 3 years to the kindest woman ever. I don't believe that a bout of amnesia would change your personality so drastically. And with Paul; one minute he's some heartless bastard who doesn't seem to care about his wife and next he's desperate for their marriage to work. There just seemed to be no development to cause these changes in personality.

Sadly I did also guess the major plot twists; Paul <spoiler>was painted very quickly to be an abusive husband so clearly he wasn't going to be one. I'd figured out pretty quickly that it was the dad that was actually the monster here because he repeatedly gave Claire half-truths and only told her things when confronted with it by the police, and even then it was never the full story. It felt like this story dragged on in some ways but also went very quickly; it took Claire so long to realise something was off with her dad. For someone who has amnesia she sure did trust him quickly for no reason other than him being her father. Again, Gaby and Paul having an affair seemed obvious because Gaby kept trying to convince Claire how awful he was. </spoiler>

Honestly one of the things I found most ridiculous was the police who just kept turning up and telling Claire to star remembering soon... clearly they would have spoke with the hospital to know she wasn't faking and they just seemed like idiots. Also Claire talks repeatedly about how she's following her mother's lead (in trusting her father) yet Claire cannot remember anything about her mother at this point so how on earth does she know what her view would be. It just felt a bit silly and felt like the author hadn't really thought out the full impact of amnesia on a person.

Ooo and that ending... well for me that was a total disappointment and didn't wrap anything up. It was like everything was just brushed under the carpet so the author didn't really have to deal with it. I think maybe i'm at the point where I need to take a break from thrillers because they're all just blurring into one for me and it means that I might not give books the right chance. I honestly don't think that's the case here but would recommend you give it your own go and go in with your own view...

Ever read a book and from the get go realise something just doesnt add up? Something just doesnt make sense. This is what happened with this book, from the very first page i felt eeire and wondered what on earth had actually happened.

We meet Claire who has had an accident and has no memory of her former life at any point, she is in hospital and doesnt even recall the handsome man who says he is her husband.

She must start again and navigate her new life, she is trying to understand what happened in the accident - were where her and her dad travelling too? When something serious comes to light she really does need to question what has happened that little bit more.

Her Perfect Lies was brilliant, like i said because i realised something was off from the first page i spent the whole time second guessing everyone but still was unable to solve the mystery that was unravelling infront of me.

This was a great thriller and a nice break from all the sweet festive reads as of late, it was deep, dark and had a whole lot of substance - i recommend you spend some time getting to know these characters.

⭐⭐⭐1/2
You wake up after a car accident. You look in the mirror and a total stranger looks back at you. Surely you must remember your husband and family? How can you not remember being a well known ballerina? You don't like the taste of pickles because they taste like seawater, but are told you use to love them. This is what happened to Claire.

"The human mind … what a fragile thing it was. One minute your life had meaning. You had a past, a present and a future that was anticipated and planned for. You went to work, saved money, paid into your pension. You got married, travelled the world, fell in love, had babies, pizza every Saturday and takeaway Chinese every Friday night. And then, just like that, without any warning or indication, your mind could turn its back on you, leaving you in a void. Knowing who you are, where you are in life, all gone like an early morning fog. Without that knowledge, what was left?"

Claire is told she was in a car accident with her father but when he wakes up from his coma he is adamant he was alone in the car.

Her husband takes her home but it doesn't feel like a home and why is he cold towards her? Where is her mother? Why doesn't she come and see her?

These and more are the things Claire has to try and cope with. Who can you trust if you can't remember them?

I enjoyed the book and I thought it had a good storyline. Here and there there were things that bothered me a bit, but it wasn't major issues. All in all it was a solid psychological thriller.

For a thriller this book is such an easy read with plenty going on.
.
Claire wakes up in hospital with no recollection of what’s happened and no memory of who she or anyone is, how she got there nor of her life.
.
.
Claire’s brain is like a jigsaw puzzle and she is slowly trying to put the loose pieces together so that everything can finally make sense. However she is having a great deal of difficultly in remembering. As she starts to uncover things about herself she discovers that she was not a very nice person at all. The deeper she digs into discovering who she is the more darkness is exposed. She may end up finding out more than she wanted too or bargained for.
.
.
A book that has suspense, intrigue and thriller all over it. If I was to be ultra picky the book is a little bit of a slow to get going. However saying that once it gets going the build up stays right until the end.

Her Perfect Lies by Lana Newton is a marvellous contemporary psychological thriller that draws the reader into a dark world of truth and lies, reality and illusions. Everyone appears plausible but some manipulate the truth for their own ends.
The lead character has suppressed memories. She searches to rebuild her past, to separate the dreams from the nightmares. Everywhere she turns, people tell her contradicting tales of her past. “Everyone’s truth was different.” Who can be trusted? Whose face is it that looms in her nightmares?
Finding a diary and old photos from childhood may bring answers or just more questions as the search for the truth continues.
Monsters lurk in a mind. Demons torment. Whose is the voice whispering in the ear? Are monsters born? Or does society shape them? Are we destined to repeat the sins of our fathers? These are all questions that arose as I read with heart racing.
There is love too. A love that consumes and a love that twists reality. There is a love that is lost. And a love that does the right thing.
Her Perfect Lies was a nail biting read. It threw up many questions along the way. I continually wondered where the truth lay and who could be trusted. It was all very cleverly done as I was lured in from the start and followed all the red herrings until the final reveal. An absolutely excellent read.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

What a fantastic book, with an ending you don’t See coming!!

The story begins when Claire wakes I’m hospital after a terrible car accident, she doesn’t recognise herself in the mirror, nor does she remember a single thing about her life. She discovers she was a famous dancer, with a loving husband, big house and a huge house beyond dreams, sadly she can’t recall any of it.

Friends and family start to help her piece her life together but all with conflicting information, which leaves her further confused and unsure who she can actually trust!

This story is a brilliant thriller, you feel sorry for Claire and because the book is so fantastically written you want to reach into the book and help her. As Claire starts to piece together her life, the story deepens and as a reader there is a real mystery to solve!

Loved this book, couldn’t put it down!!!

Five stars :)

The book started well with the main character having total amnesia. The story unfolded in a slow and steady pace as expected in this theme. I felt the ending could be dealt in a better way. The pace slackened towards the final revelation. 3.75 stars

One of my favourite books of all time is Before I Go to Sleep. Because of the greatness of Before I Go to Sleep, I find that no other memory loss novels can compare. I keep waiting for a massive twist, but it doesn’t deliver.

I think my other problem with Her Perfect Lies was that it wasn’t believable. I would hope that if I was in the hospital from a car crash and loss my memory that my family would come and visit me more than once or twice. Also Claire was a bit too trusting of everyone, even those they showed that they didn’t care about her.

2 calculators out of a potential 5. Easy read, but had a predictable ending and my expectations are far too high for memory loss novels.

When Kate wakes up in the hospital, she has no idea who she is .... she doesn't recognize her husband, her friends, her mother and father she only knows from pictures. Her father is also in the hospital recuperating.

She looks in the mirror and sees a stranger. Her husband is distant, although courteous. When her best friend tells her there were 'issues' between Kate and her husband. When she discovers divorce papers , she's sure that their issues were big ones.

Then the nightmares begin ... are they only nightmares, or is her memory beginning to come back? Who is the man chasing her and why is he so fearful? In some respects , Kate feels like she's losing her sanity.

Kate must untangle the threads of her life ..... she needs to know who she was .... she needs to solve the mystery of the car accident. The more she uncovers, the more questions she has and she finds that there are deep dark secrets she must root out.

This is a well written psychological drama full of twists and turns and secrets and lies. Not everyone is who or what they show on the outside. The characters are finely drawn and lend credibility to the story.

Her Perfect Lies is a fast paced "Psychological" Thriller. While it was not a bad read, I would rate it as average. None of the BIG twists were that surprising. I had it figured out about 60% of the way through. The ending felt slightly rushed and more from a romance novel then a thriller, which ends up making sense if you read the Afterward by the author.

Overall, not too bad a read.
