Thanks goes the publisher and Net-Galley for the chance to read and review An Inconvenient Duke by Anna Harrington prior to publication. A Regency historical romance with enthralling characters that will steal your heart. My opinions are my and not influenced in any way.

An Inconvenient Duke is the first book in Anna Harrington’s new series, Lords of the Armory. I am excited about this series and look forward to the next book with eager anticipation. Our initial glimpse of the Armory is fascinating. This novel has a great sub-plot that intrigued me and captured my attention, holding it to the end.

Danielle Williams’s character is compelling. She isn’t afraid to defy the mores of the times, to fight for women’s rights. That’s played an important part in this story. Women during the Regency period had very few rights, so I could feel her frustration and understood why she wasn’t eager to wed any man. She’s dedicated to her charities, wanting to help women in abusive situations.

Marcus Braddock is the typical military hero on the surface, but underneath, he has an amazing tender side. He loved his sister and is determined to find the person who killed her. He’s protective of his niece and loves his mother. His respect for females comes through loud and clear. He’s the kind of hero who is easy to love, even when his domineering military attitude comes out.

The love between Danielle and Marcus is tender and sweet. IT grows as they work together to find the killer. Ms. Harrington is a master at building sexual tension, which is one of my favorite aspects of Regency romance I love the most. Although there is discord in the beginning, as the story progresses, they open up to each other and learn to trust one another.

If you enjoy Regency romance with plenty of twists and a mystery to solve, then you will love An Inconvenient Duke as much as I. I look forward to reading the next book in this amazing series. Happy reading!

I loved every minute of this wonderful read. This is book one in the Lords of the Armory series and what a terrific start it was. Marcus and Danielle were great characters. They were easy to like and I thought that they had great chemistry. The interactions between these two are engaging, smart, witty and heat filled. Marcus was everything you could want in a book boyfriend. He was a perfect blend of hero, valiant soldier, alpha male and determined protector. I felt that Danielle was truly a special heroine. So often we use words like strong, spunky or fierce to describe the best female characters. And while she is all those things, what word describes her best is: Champion. When I think about it, I am almost ashamed to say that it is a term that very rarely ever crosses my mind in terms of a romantic heroine but in this instance it was the perfect fit. That this brave, brilliant and big hearted woman would take such a stand and risk so much was a beautiful and powerful thing. The book features a well written story that will capture your heart while it shines a light on a terrible ongoing injustice that never seems to go away. Filled with romance, mystery, suspense, intrigue, tension, excitement, drama, danger and action this is a read that should not be missed. I can't wait for book two.

This was an enjoyable book but was not quite what I expected. This book was way more political than I wanted. On top of it being too political, I found the main character very annoying. I think the author was going for strong and independent, but it came off as silly and shrewish. I might have enjoyed it more if I knew it was going to be less about romance and more about woman's suffrage.
Overall, the book wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I was looking for. I would recommend to anyone who likes politics heavy historical fiction.

Former General, Marcus Braddock, is struggling with his new position as Duke of Hampton. He is also mourning the loss of his sister, Elise. When he starts to suspect that his sister's death wasn't an accident, he is determined to discover what happened. Marcus believes that his sister's best friend, Danielle, knows more than she is sharing. I read an ARC of this story and chose to leave a review.

I loved An Inconvenient Duke by Anna Harrington! I couldn't put it down! It is first book in her new series and is the story of Marcus and Danielle.

An Inconvenient Duke had a lot of hot intense seduction that kept building up throughout the whole book. These scenes were especially well written because they were all hot, but not repetitive. I also enjoyed the side characters. They added a lot of good introspection into the main character's thoughts and also lightened up the book and kept the main plot line from being too heavy.

The ending resolution between Marcus and Danielle felt very right. The book does end with a definite “bigger-picture” cliff hanger.

I received this book form the author for free but all the opinions are mine

I really enjoy Anna Harrington books, and this book is no exception. This is the story of Marcus and Danielle (Dani). Marcus is a General who comes home from war and becomes a Duke. Danielle was friends with Marcus sister who died. Marcus and Danielle both want to figure out what happened to her. Danielle is a strong, independent women who is helping other women. Marcus wants to help her. This story moved along smoothly, and I do not know where the time went because I could not wait to finish it. This book is the 1st in the series Lords of the Armory, I can not wait until the balance of the books come out.
I received an ARC from Netgalley for my honest review.

The publisher and Netgalley provided me with an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the development of the complex, multi-layered characters in this book. I loved that the relationship was based on a shared history, and not on love at first sight.

Marcus is trying to forget the ravages of war, and the terrible things he saw on the battlefield. He needs purpose now that he is no longer a soldier, and is determined to find his sister's murderer. He is angry with Danielle for keeping the murder a secret, for letting him believe his sister was the victim of a riding accident instead of a heinous crime.

Danielle has always harbored a secret tendre for Marcus. He was her first crush. When he asks her to waltz after his return she is both wary and excited. Until he accuses her of lying. Danielle runs a dangerous , undercover operation that is threatened by his unrelenting search for the truth. His questions and his curiosity make them both targets.

I loved Marcus's protective nature and Danielle's selfless courage. Marcus and Danielle are both unconventional protagonists who find love despite their resolutions to the contrary.

You will enjoy the masterfully written subterfuge, Danielle's defiance, and Marcus's growly protectiveness.

An Inconvenient Duke is the first in a new series by Anna Harrington. Thus there is some minor world building, mostly in the introduction of characters who will apparently be main characters later, plus the continuing tie of soldiers who return when the war is over. These soldiers are not done saving Britain.

Marcus Braddock is a new duke, awarded for valor, but he will always be a soldier. His sister has died and he has family to care for at home, but first, he wants to know what really happened to his sister. His only clue is in her best friend, Danielle. Danielle is a gentlewoman but has secrets and Marcus works to learn them, believing they are tied to his sister's death. That's your set up and away we go.

I enjoyed this one a lot. I thought both characters were worth cheering for. We are not fully involved in the nobility and balls but spend more time in Danielle's charity work (no spoilers) and the dangers involved. There is a fair amount of suspense, while remaining a regency-era historical romance. I found the balance a nice change of pace. Side characters (as noted above) are interesting enough to add to the story and to be of interest for the future series. I always love a heroine who "works" and a hero is resists the binds of his title. The pacing is good and the intrigue is there. I am interested to see where this series goes. Harrington's previous Carlisle series had good world building, without being repetitive and I expect to see the same here as the series progresses. I enjoyed it.

This newest book from Anna Harrington gets all the stars ! She writes with flow and rhythm that is never boring. The story of the hero
turned duke (Marcus Braddock ) is very compelling. The reader is drawn to the socio-eco conditions of England after the Napoleonic
wars; the lives of the soldiers and the role of women in that era. The mystery is haunting and palpable. The chemistry between the
hero and the heroine, Danielle Williams is hot and steamy - it sizzles. Oh, this wonderful book is complete !

Marcus is back from war and finally able to face mourning his sister. But he has a feeling that her death wasn't an accident and that her best friend knows more about it than she lets on. But every time he starts to question her, she makes an excuse to run away.

Both start to investigate but Marcus is concerned for Danielle's safety and they butt heads. But sparks are also flying. Danielle has aways had feeling for Marcus and he is finally seeing her as someone other than is little sister's best friend. Can the solve the mystery of Marcus's sister's death and find their HEA?

I really enjoyed this story! I loved watching Marcus and Danielle butt heads. Their bantering had me laughing out loud at times. I loved that Danielle didn't stand down to Marcus. She knew what she wanted and wasn't going to let him stop her. This was a great start to a new series and I can't wait to see what Harrington has in store for us next!

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. An Inconvenient Duke is the first book in Anna Harrington’s new series Lords of the Armory.
General Marcus Braddock has returned from Waterloo and to thank him for his service the crown has made him the Duke of Hampton. While looking through his late sisters effects he discovers that her death was not an accident and that she was murdered. He goes searching for the truth and one person he wants to question is her good friend Danielle Williams but Danielle has secrets of her own and carries a great deal of sadness and guilt over the loss of her friend. Lots of melodrama ensues. I have loved every book I’ve read by Anna Harrington except this one. I disliked the heroine, I thought she alternated between whiney and TSTL. It took too long for her to explain why she was doing what she was doing and I was unable to find that willing suspension of disbelief that you need to enjoy a story that is as convoluted as this one. Anna Harrington has another great story, another great series, starting with An Inconvenient Duke. Marcus is a war hero who has returned home to England with a new title as a Duke. While fighting the war, Marcus' sister, Elsie, was killed in what he was told was a riding accident. Her best friend, Danielle, Marcus is convinced knows more about why and how she did. Danielle does her best to avoid the Duke since his return but can not refuse attending his birthday party, thrown but his other sister, Claudia.
Danielle always loved Marcus and she feels guilty about the cause of his sisters death as she thinks it has something to do with the underground organization she runs to help relocate abused women.
This is an action packed story that draws you into the world of the men of power and what they will do to keep and exploit that power. Marcus and Dani must trust one another to discover who killed Elsie but also they must deal with the feelings they have for each other.
Will they find love or will secrets and the evil that wants them stopped tear them apart.
Anna Harrington has well developed characters and a truly amazing story that will keep you turning the page.
I volunteered to read and review this story.

Trigger warning: discussion of domestic violence.

This book is full of drama and intrigue. The hero, Marcus, returns from war to learn that his sister has been murdered and her best friend knows more than she is saying. The romance between them develops quickly, though it mostly is presented physically.

There is a lot of discussion of domestic violence and raping women in brothels, though none of it happens to characters in the book. It did make it darker than the romances I normally seek out.

I found myself as interested in Marcus’s friends as I was in him. I bet they get their own books in the future, which I would definitely read.

If you like external conflict and danger in your romance, this might be a good fit.

I received an advanced copy of this book in return for a fair review.

An Inconvenient Duke by Anna Harrington is book One in the Lords of the Armory Series. This is the story of Danielle 'Dani' Williams and Marcus Braddock, Duke of Hampton.
Marcus went off to war but he is now back and given the title of Duke for his heroic actions. But Marcus is grieving for the lost of his sister, Elise. But then he starts to find clues that she may have been murdered, so he turns his attention to Elise best friend Danielle. Danielle always had a crush on Marcus and those feelings don't seem to have slowed down. Danielle helps to run the Nightingale pipeline and home for battered women and families. Elise did help her with this work which she thinks too may have lead to her death. Both start to look into what actually happened to Elsie which leads danger towards them...especially Danielle. This was a page turner for me. I always love this author's writing so it was a must read for me.

An Inconvenient Duke by Anna Harrington is the first book in the series called Lords of the Amory. Marcus Braddock, Duke of Hampton is back from the war. He returns only to suspect his sister was killed and did not die by accident. He is determined to get to the bottom of everything. It is his sister’s best friend, Danielle that he believes has more information.

Danielle has been avoiding Marcus since his return. She is just devastated by her best friend’s death and just can not face Marcus knowing the pain will be revealed. She also has her own secrets to keep. She has been helping abused women escape and start again. Marcus starts asking questions and following Danielle only to “help” her with a problem.

The problems compound. Marcus and Danielle fall for each other. Danielle’s charity has some difficulties with men determined to shut her down. We have lots of bad men trying to take them down and lots of good men trying to help Marcus and Danielle. There were twists and turns and a hotness factor. An Inconvenient Duke by Anna Harrington was a fun read.

I have read several books by Anna Harrington and none of them are a disappointment. This book has two very strong main characters with wonderful chemistry. Marcus Braddock, a Retired General, has come home to find out how his beloved sister died, was it really an accident, or as he suspects, a murder. Danielle Williams, his sister’s best friend, is the target of his suspicion. Danielle on the other hand has dedicated her life to working in a secret organization, Nightingale, that helps abused women get out of their horrible lives and move them into safe places. Danielle knows Elise, on her own, became involved in this organization and it maybe the cause of her death. She has her own suspicions about who hurt Elise, but is afraid to share this with Marcus because it will expose her secret organization and put all the women they have helped in danger. The plot includes mystery, suspense, a puzzle to solve and a couple steamy romance scenes, The story leaves you with the question, “Who is Specter” and “How will they take them down?” I can’t wait for the next story in the series.

Marcus Braddock, a former general has returned from the war against Napoleon & has been awarded the title of Duke of Hampton for his endeavours. Now, not only is he surrounded by the utterly unbearable ton, he's mourning the death of his beloved sister, Elise. Marcus believes his sister's death wasn't an accident, and he's determined to learn the truth—starting with Danielle Williams, his sister's beautiful best friend. Danielle is keeping deadly secrets of her own. She has dedicated her life to a charity that helps abused women—the same charity Elise was working for the night she died.
This is the first book in a new series & what a starter! Fast paced, strong believable characters & a lovely, lovely romance. As with all of the author’s books they are very well written & she draws you in from the start & leaves you breathless by the end. I loved both Marcus & Danielle, he was the upright, often uptight former soldier who is finding it hard to adjust not only to civilian life but to his new title too, so much that he has his hideaway where he can let off steam & hence the name of the series, he’s also fiercely loyal & caring. Danielle has been in love with Marcus since she was a girl, she's also feisty, brave & strong & I loved how the pair locked horns at times. However for me the sheer delight of the book was the chemistry between the pair & Oh my! that first kiss was scorching. There is a secret group Scepter that Marcus & the rest of the men of the Amory swear to bring down & that very nicely sets up the next book in the series & leaves me looking forward to it
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The beginning sucked me in but along the way it became easy to put down. I didn't care for the direction of the plot and the characters became irritating.
Every time the hero was called Duke I cringed. The heroine has a great humanitarian network going but she didn't seem very capable. And her reactions to 'betrayal' were dramatic. The hero felt dense and like he only had one reaction.
So this is a story I won't read again.

I read an ARC from Netgalley.

This first entry in a new series delivers with a romance between two strong individuals and plenty of intrigue. Social issues, including violence against women, play a big part in the plot. Marcus and Danielle find their happiness, but the story will continue in future installments, which I look forward to reading.
