Danielle would have made a great Army General. That's probably why Marcus is drawn to her instantly. I very much enjoyed reading, An Inconvenient Duke. I hope that some of Marcus's men will get their own story.

A really nice historical romance. The characters were well-drawn, the relationship seemed genuine and their encounters were super hot. A good start to a new series--I think readers will like it!

Danielle Williams has dedicated her life to secretly helping abused women. Marcus Braddock dedicated his life to defending the crown. When Marcus returns home after being at war and discovers the death of his sister, and Danielle's best friend is not all that it seems, he makes it his mission to uncover the truth. But uncovering the truth might endanger themselves in the process. Marcus vows to save Danielle, but who will save him? A delightful dramatic romance novel with solid characters and just the right amount of suspense.

While Marcus is away at war, he receives a letter from Danielle informing him of his sister, Elise’s death. Upon his return to England he wants to meet Danielle to question her about his sister’s death, who has been avoiding him. Marcus soon discovers his sister was murdered. Danielle is passionate about her cause to rescue women from domestic abuse and Elise was involved with this cause too.

There is danger, mystery, lies, deception and murder as the two join forces to find out who killed Elise. It’s a gripping, entertaining story.

Marcus Braddock, Duke of Hampton and former war hero, begins to suspect his sister's death was not an accident when he finds a mysterious note among her things. Danielle Williams, his sister's best friend, may have information concerning her death and Marcus is determined to learn every one of her secrets. Feelings develop between these two, but can Danielle trust Marcus with her secrets and more importantly, her heart?

I'm a fan of Ms. Harrington and enjoy her books. "An Inconvenient Duke" is the first book in a new series and introduces a nefarious foe that will be central to all the books in the series. Both Marcus and Danielle have their demons to slay and I wish their relationship was developed a bit more before they declared their love for each other. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I absolutely enjoyed this book. I really liked how Danielle and Marcus worked together to solve his sisters murder. I think it is a great start for this new series. I only wished I would have gotten some background from when Danielle and his sister Elise and Marcus when they were younger. But overall a great book.

I received an ARC of An Inconvenient Duke from the fabulous author, Anna Harrington. Intrigue, mystery, romance.....ohhh, this author can do it all. I could vividly see everything she was describing. This story follows the lives of Danielle, and Marcus. I have no words to describe this story as it had me glued page after page. I couldn't stop no matter what. Marcus is a frustrated newly appointed Duke, just returned from war, who still believes in everything being clearly discernible as right or wrong. The agony of trying to help the plight of abused women and making them "vanish" is what gives Danielle strength and courage.. a purpose in life. Fabulous first book in an amazing new series.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and I think Anna Harrington has done a wonderful job of introducing us to the Lords of the Armory with this first book in the series! Taking place in an era when women had no rights, you will meet Danielle who is helping women escape abusive marriages. You will also meet Marcus, a general, who comes home from the war and finds out that his sister did not die from a fall off her horse...she was murdered! Danielle, who was his sisters best friend, ends up helping him try to uncover the truth.

As one clue leads to another, Danielle and Marcus end up not knowing who to trust anymore and the story is filled with on going action that will leave you not wanting to put the book down! Amidst all the danger, they fall in love and passions run deep but the road to HEA is not an easy one. Well written, filled with action and intrigue, now I look forward to the next books in the series.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I struggled with this book. I am a big fan of this author’s and adored her previous series (the Carlisles), but after reading this book, I’m not sure if this new series is going to be for me. This is a romance with a strong murder mystery element, one that points to a larger, nefarious organization that will be the focus of the series. This book very much felt like it was setting up the larger conspiracy that is to come in future books; the romance was not as central to the plot, or as developed, as I would have liked. The characters’ relationship felt rushed, and their personalities were also underdeveloped. I don’t feel like I know these characters or what motivates their love for each other all that well.

I will definitely read the next book in the series, because I love Anna Harrington and know she is a talented writer. It could be this type of mystery romance just isn’t for me, but would work well for other readers.

I received an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

A solid historical romance novel that really highlighted the physical and mental abuse that women suffered at the hands of men whom society said could legally abuse. The subject matter is very dark and starkly related, so those needing a content warning should look elsewhere for their romance. If you can stick this out, though, the chemistry between the main characters sizzles and their growing relationship is emotionally satisfying.

Regency Romance

England – 1816

General Marcus Braddock was in France when he learned his sister Elise had died when thrown from her horse. At the time he was leading the Coldstream Guards of the 2nd Battalion in England’s war with Napoleon in France. Elise’s best friend and friend of the family, Danielle Williams, had written to inform him.

At the end of the war, Marcus finally returns to England. Like Wellington, for his service to his country the Regent for King George III, better known as Prinny, elevates Marcus to the peerage as the Duke of Hampton. Marcus hates the effects both his fame as a soldier and his new title bring him. He remains reclusive from London’s elite society. He bought an old armory planning to turn it into a warehouse, but instead it has become a refuge. Since returning to England he feels empty and purposeless. Then, in his sister’s belongings, he finds a letter from a man warning his sister to avoid a group called Scepter. Marcus suspects Elise was murdered and believes Danielle knows more information, but Danielle avoids him. The only thing he is determined to do is to discover how and why Elise was murdered. In this, he has the help of some of the officers who served with him during the war.

Danielle has always felt Elise was more of a sister than a friend, and she has always held an attraction to Elise’s older brother Marcus. When Marcus confronts her about Elise’s murder, she is shocked. Danielle has secrets she cannot divulge to Marcus, secrets that involved Elise. Since learning of the abuse her aunt endured during her marriage, she has worked surreptitiously to free women from physical abuse, including women forced into sexual servitude. Her group, called Nightingale, helps women vanish from London and provides them escape and safety. Danielle must also protect the women who help her in this endeavor. She does not want anyone, including Marcus, to discover anything about Nightingale. However, she is unfamiliar with how great a force a trained and intelligent soldier and leader like Marcus can be.

Marcus and Danielle are both headstrong but moral and caring individuals guiding their own personal armies; even so, a definite attraction pulls at them. Their investigation and connection to Elise’s death invites danger. Marcus wants to protect Danielle and is used to having his orders followed, but Danielle is fiercely independent and devoted to her cause. How can they possibly follow their feelings even as they succumb to their passion? Can they find Elise’s killer, or will Scepter stop them? An intense and interesting tale about the dangerous juncture of romance and noble cause.

This was a pretty good historical romance with a strong heroine determined to save abused woman and a recently titled Duke equally determined to find justice for his sister's murder. There was incredible sexual and emotional chemistry between Danielle and Marcus that made the plot intriguing and their attraction hot. I would definitely read more from this author.
