TW - domestic abuse

Woweeee.
This was a very exciting read. If I could give this more than five stars, I would. I felt EVERYTHING!
What an actual whirlwind. I genuinely had to put this down a few times just so I could breathe. The tension was so high, I spent most of the time holding my breath.
I look forward to reading more from this author.

First, thank you to Simon and Schuster via Net Galley for a copy of The Sunday Girl to review. And thank you to Pip Drysdale for writing a catchy story!
This was not quite a four-star read for me, but three seemed a little slack so 3.5 it is, rounded up to 4. I am in the minority with this one, it didn’t blow me away as it has some that I have seen. It is, however, a good debut novel for an author I will check out!!!
Taylor breaks up with her boyfriend Angus, and basically, let the games begin. A few of the situations were totally intriguing, but shallow. There was too much going on at certain points, that were then abruptly shut down. I felt like I was watching a train wreck and knew exactly where each piece would land.
I would have rated it higher if I was a little more satisfied with the ending. I couldn’t put it down towards the end, waiting for “IT” to happen…..and it never did. It was a very anti-climactic ending. It left me wanting more, somehow. So, basically yes, I would recommend this to thriller readers, but also, it’s one I could wait to check out from the library.

Taylor's life is thrown into a whirlwind after she finds out her boyfriend Angus has been cheating on her. Her plan for revenge is told throughout this fast-paced novel, which had me constantly wondering what would happen next.

I enjoyed this thriller and have always been intrigued by a well-done dive into domestic abuse. Taylor's mistakes proved realistic, and Angus was a suitably horrible antagonist. Drysdale kept pace throughout the novel and made for an enjoyable mystery.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Landmark and NetGalley for providing me with this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Pip Drysdale deals with domestic violence issues in this edgy pageburner with a sensitive, intelligent novel portraying one woman's struggle against abuse. This time the protagonist, Taylor Bishop applies the ancient "Art Of War" to extract her ultimate revenge on a remorseless ex-lover. It's not a recommended solution but certainly makes a good, quick read

This book had me hooked from the very first page!! The tie in of the Art of War book with quotes as the guideline for the premise was really great,

The story of Taylor and Angus and how cunning she has to be to outsmart how awful he is was very well written, I felt like I could see inside Her mind , and I literally read this in 2 days it was amazing!
This is an author who I would look up and read everything else by - so I really look forward to what she does next! 5 stars plus!

Drysdale weaves a tale of intrigue and suspense in The Sunday Girl, while keeping the reader captivated and unable to put the book down until the very end. What's disappointing is the fact that there are a few side story lines left open-ended and without closure. However, The Sunday Girl aptly describes a protagonist and her relationship with the antagonist in a revenge-filled way gone awry. Be prepared for a thrilling, unexpected ride!

I loved the premise of this book- Bridget Jones + Art of War + getting back at the guy who wronged you? Yes, please. The execution, however, fell flat. Instead of rooting for the main character, I found myself screaming at her, “what are you doing?” There was nothing light or fun or Bridget Jones-ish about it. I do like the author’s style of writing, and I’ll definitely read more of their work. The plot of this one, however, was not my jam.

I received a free ebook copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

I could not put this book down! I was immediately drawn into Taylor and Angus's story. I loved The Art of War references, and how the book somewhat revolved around that.

This was a book I could not put down and had a huge twist I did not see coming at all.

Overall this book has become a favorite!

Taylor and Angus have been dating for a while when she finds out he's cheating on her.
Taylor wants revenge. Especially when she finds out he has put a tape he made of her and another on the internet. He had wanted to have that threesome. She only went along to please him. She knew he was taping with his phone. He had promised her it was for his eyes only. Now she sees he has placed it out there for the world to see. She is humiliated, angry, hurt and feels betrayed.
After they break up she starts thinking about revenge.
She orders two hookers and has them going to his apartment. She has the cost charged to his company credit card.
There is a back and forth between the two. A game of one up manship. She thinks she's ahead of the game until she finds he has set her up to almost get fired from her job.
One of them will lose and one will win. Who is the most clever and conniving?
Dram at its finest!

Disclaimer: I was given an advanced reading ebook copy by Netgalley and the Publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first book by Pip Drysdale and I absolutely loved it! I can’t wait to see what else she writes!

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Book Summary: Taylor is angry, hurt, and devastated after her boyfriend Angus breaks up with her and betrays her in a very public and horrific way. Taylor begins plotting her plan for revenge, but things get out of control fast and things quickly start spiraling out of control.

The Good: I could not put this book down! It was an addictive read that defines the term page turner. Pip Drysdale lays out a story full of tension and drama, while keeping it just the right amount of unpredictable. Taylor is a character that the reader can relate to and I think that makes the book even more enjoyable. You want Taylor to win the war against this awful boy that ruined her life. I was enthralled with the story line until the very end.

The Bad: I think the only part that disappointed me about this book was that some of the situations Taylor was in seemed a little unlikely. I found myself thinking she was kind of stupid in some parts of the book.

Should you read it? Yes! If you love twisty thrillers this is a must read!

k first things first: Why is my name not Pip Drysdale? Have you ever heard a better name?

OK I MUST FOCUS. BECAUSE WE'VE GOT TO TALK ABOUT THIS BOOK.

So technically this book is considered a Psychological Thriller but I'm not sure if I would throw it in that category. This book is about so much more than that. It's about a woman in love but trapped in an abusive relationship.

This book felt almost like I was reading Taylor's (main character) diary. We start at the beginning, where Taylor and Angus meet and fall in love. We follow them through the honeymoon phase (and Paris!) and start to get little peeks at how F'd up Angus (her BF) is. Then we move to the end of the relationship where we learn Angus is a total psychopath. He's abusive and narcissistic, and posts a sex video of Taylor online for everyone to see. But because Taylor loves him, she takes him back...until she realizes he's psycho and then it all spirals out of control.

SO. As I was reading this, it didn't have that psychological thriller vibe to me. It just felt like I was reading a story about a woman trapped in an abusive relationship, that kept getting worse. And we need books like this. Because unfortunately, this book tells the story of many women.

What I loved about this story was how strong Taylor was. Angus thought she was just a dumb girl he could make do whatever he wanted. But...TAYLOR WAS ACTUALLY A BAD ASS BITCH THE ENTIRE TIME. I was rooting for Taylor and knew she was so much more than Angus gave her credit for.

Thank you NetGalley for giving me a chance to read and review this!

Fantastic read! I didn’t want to put it down and looked forward to coming back to it when I couldn’t read. Parts of the book made my stomach turn fearing for the main character and I questioned a lot of her choices but it kept me very entertained!

This was such a fun, fun read! (Even though sometimes I wanted to ask the main character what on earth she was thinking?!)!

In the beginning of the book Taylor, the main character, is fresh out of an abusive relationship with Angus. She is beside herself as he continues to ruin her and post a sex tape of her online. In an attempt to move on, during an impromptu visit with an old "friend", she sneaks his copy of "The Art of War" home with her and begins to read.. and plot. She seeks solace in her reading of The Art of War and begins to seek out her revenge on her ex in ways that no one can even imagine.

I had a hard time putting this book down, even though Taylor made some frustrating decisions! You just can't help but be on her side and push her to the limit. This was a super fun debut and I look forward to reading more of her books!! Seek this one out for a great read!

Thank you to Pip Drysdale, NetGalley and Simon & Shuster for an eARC.

OMG can I give this more than 5? I really really loved it.
This is the first novel by Pip for me but to be honest she surprised me.
When Taylor boyfriend leave her, she wanted to revenge from him.
This novel is well written and the events were drafted so well .

This is not an enjoyable read. It’s well written and full of tension, but it’s difficult to read about two people in a relationship being horrible to one another. Granted, when Taylor did things to exact revenge, she had plenty of reasons to be angry, but then she chose to believe Angus had changed and got back together with him. I’ve had many bad dates and made my share of mistakes with guys, but no where close to this colossally poor judgment on her part.

You worry about her safety—physical, financial, emotional—and you hope she finds a clever way out of it. The ending wasn’t the satisfactory one I had been hoping for.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

The Sunday Girl by Pip Drysdale is one of those books that I was compelled to read and when I wasn’t reading it – because, you know, adulting – I was wondering what was going to happen next. I know it’s a good one when I’m thinking about it at the grocery store! The Sunday Girl is an absolutely brilliant psychological thriller of one woman’s attempt at revenge and the mayhem that follows.

Taylor is an educated, nice young woman dating Angus, a substance abusing womanizer. Before their break-up she thought they would marry and live happily, after all, she was his Sunday Girl.

“You always know where your heart belongs when it gets to Sunday and there’s only one person in the whole world you want to curl up with on the sofa” –Angus, The Sunday Girl

That is until he breaks up with her right before their ski vacation and he takes another girl. To make matters worse, he uploads a compromising video of her on a porn site and then won’t answer her calls. This leads a very hurt and very angry Taylor to take matters into her own hands. Utilizing The Art of War by Sun Tzu as her inspiration, Taylor begins to plot her revenge.

Master Sun said, “Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.”

As Taylor’s plans begin to fall apart and her revenge backfires, she realizes that the Angus she once loved is always a step ahead of her and her life may be in danger. There is an epic battle going on in the classic style of cat and mouse but who is the cat and who is the mouse?

The Sunday Girl is a riveting and compelling page turner, a cautionary tale of the times that had me on the edge throughout the whole book. Tense and atmospheric, Ms. Drysdale brilliantly utilizes strategic passages from The Art of War at the beginning of each chapter, which created the perfect appetizer for the delicious meal to follow!

A big thank you to Sourcebooks Landmark and Pip Drysdale for providing me with a copy of The Sunday Girl in exchange for my honest opinion.

The Sunday Girl by Pip Drysdale was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. Taylor was recently dumped by her on-paper perfect boyfriend, Angus. Behind the scenes, Angus was far from perfect. Entitled and rich, with a cocaine habit and violent tendencies, he was everything but a great boyfriend. But not unlike many abusers, he is also charming and cunning, and manages to win Taylor back. But right before he does, Taylor had set Angus up to get revenge. Soon enough, Taylor realizes Angus is one step ahead. She must outsmart him, and maintain her safety.

This book was extremely fast, because there was no dull moments. There was little buildup or waiting around before the reader was in on the action, which I loved. You'll be wondering how Taylor goes back to Angus, but Drysdale really captures the personality of an emotional and physical abuser to show that its easier said than done. If you've experienced violence or a controlling relationship, this book may be a trigger. This book is great for a quick, action packed read. The ending was slightly abrupt, but the story does not necessarily warrant a drawn out ending. I just like knowing what becomes of each character. Thank to NetGalley for the chance to read and review!

A wonderful light thriller read on revenge turning a good girl into a bad girl and what happens next when things get twisted upside down. I had to keep reading this book to find out what happened in The Sunday Girl by Pip Drysdale.

Taylor happens to pick up Sun Tzu’s book “The Art Of War” and uses it as the basis for her plan to get revenge on the creep who totally dumps her just before their big ski trip. I thought the idea of using the book as a guide for getting the best revenge was great... unfortunately it seems that Angus Hollingsworth is indestructible as he seems to always be a few steps ahead of her. This book entertains all the way to end, with Taylor's game plans, her successes, and her failures. Will she get the upper hand in this revenge game or will she pay the ultimate price?

Great read!! Terrific writing that pulls the reader right into the story!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Author Pip Drysdale and SOURCEBOOKS Landmark for this temporary digital advance review copy for me to read and enjoy. As always, my opinions are my own!
