I have just finished up this book called THE LONG BLINK which is a narrative nonfiction book by journalist, Brian Kuebler. The book tells the story of Ed Slattery whose family was in a horrific crash vs. an 18 wheeler with a tired driver at the helm...& Ed’s long struggle to put his life back together afterwards.

Ed lost his wife and one of his sons was permanently disabled as a result of the crash.

But the losses and trauma he experienced only fueled this father's ongoing fight on Capitol Hill for safer roads for us all.

Ed Slattery picked up the torch to make changes in transportation & driver safety and this story is certainly a moving one! Thank you to Smith Publicity Inc. and to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Safe driving out there!!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.

What a powerful read. A nightmare in text really. I really felt for the author, and I cannot imagine the level of anguish and heartbreak he felt.

Ed Slattery has an important message to bring to the public concerning road safety and the trucking industry in America after the most horrific accident changed a family forever. Thankfully Brian Kuebler has given an honest and emotional journey that respects the Slattery families during their most traumatic moments.
I found the different ethics that Ed and Doug, a born again Christian, showed was extremely telling and I really admire the tenacity Ed had to continue with the meeting for I doubt many of us could be that tolerant and this only reinforced my understanding that fairness, loving, and honesty is strong in most people in worst of times.
Here in Australia we had similar problems for years with trip money, safety, wages, and subbies all coming to a head when we created the Transport Workers Union. I was for most of my working life a long distance truckie and relate to the what we called the cowboy attitude big operators had and needed cleaning up and thankfully we now have a safe working environment.
I wish Ed, Matthew, and Peter a peaceful future for I know I will not forget their story.
Thanks to NetGalley I have given an independent review.

I usually read to be entertained, thrilled, and tested on my sleuthing ability. The reviews for this book, however, made me curious. Wow! This book hit the emotions and the mind simultaneously and never let go. The story of one man's pain, devotion, and determination is very inspirational.

This book will speak to you long after you read it. Powerful read.

Thanks to author, publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book. While I got the book for free, it had no bearing on the rating I gave it.
