This entire one-night-stand-turned-into-something-very-unexpected is like one of my favorite tropes. I love the entire i-fucked-you-because-I-thought-I-will-never-see-you-again-but-now-you’re-my-boss situation because it just creates funny situations for both characters. There’s the character that feels absolutely weird over the idea that they slept with their boss and then there’s the boss who’s just can’t stay away. I really enjoyed Ryan and Sam’s story and how they tried to figure everything out without creating additional complications for themselves

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.

Unfortunately, this book was not exactly what I was expecting when I picked it. I love a good old office romance with lots of chemistry and sneaking around and it looked like The New Guy had all the ingredients for it but it fell a bit flat for me. Both main characters had a troubled past and were not ready for love, and they repeated it a bit too much, as if trying to convince themselves. Plus, whenever they connected a bit in a more personal way, then one of them would blow it or misunderstand something and they would go back to being weary of each other. This meant that I didn't enjoy this story as much as I could have, I would have loved more love scenes and less angst. But this is only my personal preference, it is overall a well written love/attraction story that I am sure many other readers will enjoy.

Hot and sexy beach read! Really liked this twist on the one-night-stand trope.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book was the absolute perfect escape, and I loved it! Both characters in this book were likable, relatable, and then sometimes they frustrated me to no end. They both had major insecurities that they needed to work on. I loved how opposite the characters were from one another. This book was a perfect example of how opposites attract. I wish there was a little more at the end. But overall, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it!

Thank you Netgalley for my eARC of this book, all thoughts are my own.

DNF'ed. This is one of those situations that it is me and not the book. I realized that it was written by a British author and I never meshed well with their type of writing. Especially first few pages (no spoiler, legit on second page), Sam was told by the main guy to leave him alone and not talk to him but she kept on talking to him, asking questions. If the role was to be reversed... It will be considered as harassment.

I absolutely loved this book!

When I read the synopsis of The New Guy, I knew I was going to love it and I want wrong. The story follows the blossoming relationship of Sam and Ryan. Everyone can see that they are falling for each other. There is just one problem – Sam is Ryan’s boss and for Sam having an office romance is just not on the cards at all.

I loved following the journey of Sam and Ryan as they spend more and more time together and fall more and more in love with each other. To be together, they both have to overcome a lot of emotional things and Sam has to decide if she can still work with Ryan and be in a relationship with him.

The New Guy is such a heart-warming and romantic read and shows that you just can’t help who you fall in love with. I would definitely recommend The New Guy to anyone looking for that real romantic and loving feeling.

This book was funny if not predictable but readable all the same with a group of likeable characters and i hope there is a follow up.

This was an enjoyable romance. It has all the right ingredients - one night stand turned possible romance with a broody male hero and an opposites attract romance.

I did struggle a little with the dialogue, which didn't feel quite realistic all of the time and also the character reactions didn't always seem to make a lot of sense. There was also some really unprofessional conduct which made me a little frustrated.

i thought this was cute. i loved sam and ryan and love a good workplace romance. i loved that the female was the boss. its not a typical romance set up so it was a fresh take! ryan is a great book boyfriend though. he had a heart of cold and it was hard to not like him!

Unfortunately this was a DNF for me at 57% - I found the story quite repetitive with no real chemistry between the lead characters.

The book begins with a grieving Sam drinking alone in a bar after the funeral of her beloved ‘Grumps’. Also at the bar is the moody, masculine Ryan who isn’t really the chatting type. After a bit of flirting, they both end up in a no names one night stand. No harm done until it becomes clear Ryan is the new guy at CEO Sam’s tech firm. What commences is the challenges of deciding whether they should continue their secret affair or stay professional.

I looked forward to reading this book and after the first few chapters I was intrigued how this romcom would turn out. Disappointingly the story was just so slow and never really took off, although the author tried to add depth with back stories nothing was ever really explained. Not for me this time.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Typical cute Romance. The characters were likeable and it’s neatly tied up with a happy ending. Definitely one I’ll recommend to my customers who like fluffy Romance.

This is perfect for you if you like romantic comedies! The two characters have a one night stand (no names/ numbers), then realize that the next day that he is her new employee. Whoops! Sam and Ryan's story is a fun, quick read and I enjoyed it. Great for the beach!

A funny rom-com about Sam and Ryan who meet at a bar one night. What do you do, take this person home? Take a chance on fate? A light, but predictable read.

I definitely found myself blushing my way through this one because I can completely relate to it. It’s your typical ‘girl meets boy, but he’s off limits’ story with a touch of humor.

Essentially, Sam Huxton is the CEO of a tech company, who has a one night stand with a man whose name she doesn’t even know. The next day at work, Sam goes to meet her new hire, Ryan Black, and discovers he is the man she met the night before. There’s a ton of tension and build-up as Ryan and Sam struggle to figure it all out, while staying professional. Sam is determined to not have a relationship with Ryan, especially since the success of her business depends heavily on Ryan doing his job well. It was a great lazy weekend read, which is exactly what I’ve been needing.

TW : loss of a family member

This story was a very fun and saucy! It had a ton of the romance stereotypes that draws people in - workplace romance, broody bad boy and glass-half-full optimist, love triangles, opposites attract - it's got it all! I love the story of the sexy one night stand turned office fling, and I really enjoyed seeing how Sam, the female lead, balanced that with what she saw as her responsibilities as the CEO.

That being said, I didn't find that this book was perfect for me. There were just some parts that I didn't feel as invested or drawn in as I did in the beginning.

Let's start with the characters. I really loved the character of Sam. I also really loved that the author decided to turn the office romance on it's head a bit and have the female lead be the bad ass CEO, and the male lead be the one working with and for her. I found Sam pretty realistically written and fairly likable from the very beginning, and I had no trouble feeling myself stay invested in her and her story. She was just a character that I wanted to succeed, you know? I wanted to watch her app turn out incredibly successful, and I wanted to watch her give her jerk ex a piece of her mind, and I wanted to see her be able to Ryan and start to really feel all of that love. She just turned out to be the very type of character that I found I was wanting to read about, just so that I could root for her.

Now to Ryan, our troubled and brooding introvert of a male lead. I really did like his character - I love a flawed character that has plenty of space to grow and change throughout the course of the story. That's what makes characters fun! When you get to see someone become a better or more rounded person, it just really makes the reading experience for me. And Ryan definitely had all of that in spades. One thing that I will say is, while I loved his backstory and still wanted to be able to watch him succeed, there were just a few times that his gruff exterior towards Sam was just a bit harsher than I would have loved to see. It was definitely a part of who he was as a character, and like I said, that gave him the opportunity to really show some great character development by the end. But there were just a couple of times when, in my opinion, it crossed the line from "brooding bad boy employee/fling being protective of her and being a strong alpha" to "jerk that she has feelings for belittling her and basically telling her to f*** off on multiple occasions." And those were the moments that made it just a bit more difficult for me to keep myself fully invested in the story, particularly the romance. There were just one or two times when if I was her best friend I maybe would have told her that this guy may not be the best news for her right now. Although overall he did follow through on that previously mentioned character development, and by the time I got to the last page I was back on his side. Mostly.

Over all I definitely enjoyed this read, and would recommend it to friends who are looking for a sassy and slightly steamy workplace romance or opposites attract story. It has a few pretty steamy moments, but most only go so far as a movie scene fading to black, and it never got too much worse than PG-13. And from my experience, it is definitely best enjoyed with a glass of wine and a bubble bath!
