Thank You NetGalley for this copy of The New Guy. . I liked the story. of Sunshine Sam and Brooding Ryan. They def were different types of people but they both got along well. It was a cute funny story and I thought it was a pretty good read.

This one fell a bit flat to me as I feel I've read the same workplace concept one too many times. It had it's good parts and was all-in-all nice to read, just nothing special.

Funny, hot, couldn’t put it down! The dynamic between Sam and Ryan was funny and full of emotion. It was interesting to read a story about the woman being the boss and the man being her worker, but I’m a sucker for an office romance!

This is the first read for me by this author. And judging by the blurb I was really excited to read it. We meet Sam, the young, smart and bubbly female CEO of a tech business and Ryan, the new hire who just happened to have an unknown one-night stand with his boss before he starts work.
There is plenty within this contemporary romance. Business rivals, family problems, relationship issues. It isn’t a taxing read, it’s full of sex – not actual sex scenes just the thinking of, talking about etc. It isn’t really my thing.
It was a nice read, quite light hearted and quick to read.

I thought the main characters were really annoying and really didn’t get on with the book at all. The phrase champagne lady made me cringe.

Firstly, thanks to One More Chapter at HarperCollins for giving me access on Netgalley to this book. I picked The New Guy up the day after reading a contemporary that left me emotionally exhausted (meaning I cried a lot). It was just what I needed: light and fun.

In fact, it surprised me. In the first chapter, I did not find Ryan likeable. We open in Sam’s perspective as she gets drunk at a local bar after attending her grandad’s funeral. She decides to overshare with the guy next to her, Ryan, who is a bit of an arse. As you read the book further, that’s the point. He is unsociable and sometimes unlikeable. Enter the cliche where he is, with a select few, caring and kind.

Meanwhile, Sam continues to run her company after her partner (both in life and in work) cheated on her with the office manager. Determined to never trust men again, she butts heads with Ryan a lot. And I won’t lie, I loved reading it.

They have a one night stand, then reunite the next morning on Ryan’s first day at Sam’s company where they realise who each other are. You know exactly how the book is going to end but the journey is definitely a bit of fun. The perspective shifts between Ryan and Sam often mid-chapter, so you get the same scene from both of their opinions. This means, when Sam thinks Ryan is being arrogant, you also know why he is acting that way. Sometimes, I’ll admit it came across like the author was trying to redeem his rude behaviour. But overall, it didn’t get too much in the way of my enjoyment. Mostly, I embraced the clichés.

I’d definitely recommend this to someone who enjoys a good cliche, fun romance.

Happy reading 🙂

Sam Huxton doesn’t do one-night stands, especially not with men she’s just met! But the hot guy at the bar was hard to resist and one night is all they share – no names, no numbers, just some much needed fun…Until the same guy walks into Sam’s life the next day as her new employee. Sam never mixes business with pleasure and makes it clear an office fling with Ryan is off-limits. But after-hours…one thing can lead to another. Can Sam trust her heart and her business with the new guy?
This was a decent read. It was light and quick to read. The characters were likable and the overall plot was ok.

Sam Huxton did what any family member would do when you lost a loved one and are all alone - go to the pub and drink. At the pub she starts a conversation with a reluctant, hot stranger. One thing leads to another and they end up in bed at Sam's place. The next morning Sam goes into work and finds out her newest employee Ryan is her one night stand. Sam tries to keep things strictly business between herself and Ryan, but with the crazy chemistry and sultry looks will she be able to?

I like the story line but it was a tough book to finish. There were parts when the story drug on about the conflict between boss and employee. I really like Ryan as a character. He is a dark horse that comes off very standoffish but then you find out more about his past and what made him the way he is. Overall it was a good read but not one I would read again.

This book was given to me an an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in an exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

I loved this book - read it in one sitting on a bank holiday. I would say it was full of unresolved sexual tension, except for the fact that it was resolved in the first few pages (not a spoiler!). Very hot and also very very sweet.

The New Guy is quick and easy read about a one night stand turned office romance.

Sam Huxton doesn't do one night stands. After her grandfathers passing, she meets a hot guy at a bar and he was just too hard to resist. It was all fine until her next day at work and the same guy is Sam's new employee.

Overall it was a fun and enticing read for me and I enjoyed the lead characters personalities.

I want to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for generously providing me with a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

First of, let me just say that the premise for The New Guy is wonderful. After Sam Huxton attends her grandfather's funeral, she ends up in a bar, where she meets a hunk named Ryan. They have a one-night stand, and plan on never seeing each other again... only to find that Ryan is the new hire at Sam's company. Talk about a major complication/recipe for disaster, right?! This book was a quick read, and I loved the premise, and I really liked Ryan's character, too. However, some of the writing was a bit long winded and the relationship between was far too complicated for tooooo long. This is a fun read, and the ending was nice, but the middle was just a bit too...meh. I felt like there could've been more interaction between the two main characters, rather than so much emphasis on the co-workers.

3 out of 5 stars for The New Guy by Kathryn Freeman. Thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I enjoyed the slow build from one night stand to real feelings in this office-based romance. There is perhaps a bit too much in the way of office life and techno stuff about the app they are developing, but the relationships between workers were well developed, and the insecurities and emotional history of both hero and heroine were well portrayed, explaining why both are wary of trusting or giving too much of themselves too soon. A new author to me but I would read more.

I genuinely didn't expect to enjoy this as much as what I have done!

The Romance was just so PERFECT and I couldn't get enough of it. The fact that Sam was the boss made for a nice change, because we always see the man in charge and I really liked that aspect!

It was the perfect read for me at this moment in time with everything that's going on, nice and light!

Although this story is very predictable, the tense relation between the main characters gets to hook the reader on turning pages, so this is enough to recommend this book .

This is a romcom but not very funny at all. I mean, it’s very entertaining but there is a part about Ryan ‘s family that I don’t consider very necessary to the development of the story. I suppose the author wants to give a sensitive feeling to the male character to soft his rude side. I think the sentimental past of Sam , plus the uncertain running of her own company , it was enough to build up a good plot.

All in all, I congratulate to the author for this book.

I wasn't sure about this book when I requested it, parts of the description seemed so cliche. I was pleasantly surprised to read a fun well-written story with memorable characters.

3.5 stars

The New Guy was a light, funny, entertaining read. I found Ryan to be quite the charmer and enjoyed the banter between him and Sam.
This is my first book from the author and I definitely enjoyed it. There was a tad of suspense and at times it was a bit predictable but, overall it was worth the read.

Sam Huxton's attempts to drown her grief over her beloved grandfather's death in a few glasses of champagne haven't worked, so she decides to throw caution to the wind and take home the handsome, grumpy stranger sitting next to her at the bar. She's never had a one-night-stand before, and it's pretty unforgettable. Especially when she finds the guy in her office the next day because he's her company's new tech whiz. Ryan Black has a gigantic chip on his shoulder about being part of a team and working collaboratively, but he's going to have to get over it if they're going to get their new app up and running. The two agree to keep things strictly professional, but they can't seem to stop thinking about each other. Ryan's insecurities make falling in love with the beautiful boss who is clearly out of his league a terrible, impossible idea. And Sam, for her part, is desperate to avoid a repeat of her past where she dated a work colleague and it blew up in her face. Will they decide that the connection between them is worth risking their hearts?

The one-night-stand turning into "Oops, that's my boss" had shades of Grey's Anatomy about it, but it's a compelling meet-cute and it worked well here. The writing is clever, and the characters were mostly well-drawn (Lucas, the gay colleague who strikes up an unlikely friendship with the gruff, blunt Ryan was my favorite!). While I enjoyed a lot of this book, I will say that it moved very slowly and not a lot happens. Working out the bugs in an app to keep a company afloat isn't really interesting enough to keep an entire plot going, so I kind of wish there were a few additional storylines to spice it up a bit. Still, it was a fun, fluffy read.
