What a powerful ending! Gut wrenching. In Five years is a story of friendships and loves that end and begin in surprising ways. Life is not for the squeamish .I highly recommend this book and a box of Kleenex. Can definitely see this as a Oscar winning film.

This was a very enjoyable read. It was light hearted and very relatable as I am the same age. I really liked how it explored millenials and often how we feel. I also liked how it explored real love vs. routine.

Great easy read! The characters and story are easy to follow and you really want to find out how she ends up where she is in 5 years. Perfect easy read and entertaining read for a vacation.

I’m not going to try to summarize the synopsis of this one, because I’m worried I will spoil something by accident. But the main premise of the book is Dannie, a newly engaged, corporate lawyer, falls asleep in 2020, and wakes up in 2025. She gets a brief glimpse of the future that makes absolutely no sense to her, and it turns her world upside down trying to stop it from happening when she wakes up in 2020 again.

I had no idea what I was getting into with this book - all I knew was that I loved The Dinner List so much, that I knew I needed to read Rebecca Serle’s next book as well. I cried my eyes out. Again. I will say that I loved The Dinner List more than In Five Years, but both were really good and really quick reads. In Five Years was emotional, and real, and really interesting.

My only critique is that she said “due diligence” too much (like, a lot). As someone who is engaged to a corporate lawyer, it felt like she thought that’s what they talk about all the time... and spoiler alert: they don’t 😂.

I can’t give my normal trigger warnings because I don’t want to spoil anything, but I will say there are some complex topics talked about in the book that may upset some people.

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for an early copy of the book for review! This one will be releasing March, 2020!

I requested this thinking it would be a romance, maybe a love triangle. When I read the author's note, though, it said that this is more about the love between best friends. Reading it from that angle, it was a wonderful story. If I had read it like others had, hoping for a sweeping romance or something drastic to happen where this second man would sweep Dannie off her feet, I would have been disappointed. But knowing this is about the love between two friends made this book so special. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC.**

When Dannie has a vivid dream of herself set in the future, she struggles with herself trying to unwrap the changes that she saw. 41/2 years later when she starts to see these pieces falling together, she races to change her life for the future she thinks she wants.

Great character development. I was hooked very soon into this book. Highly recommended for all!

This is a love story but not like any other love story.

I was engrossed from the beginning. I’ve always been fascinated by dreams and what they mean. And Dannie has a dream that shifts the course of her entire life.

I was a big fan of Serle’s first novel and this one did not disappoint.

Let me start of by saying, this is book about friendship as opposed to a love story. I was expecting an epic love story or a love triangle due to the premonition very early on.

It took me a while to like the main character, Dannie. I found her grating for a long while. The supporting characters were never fleshed out that well, I didn't feel like I "knew" any of them. Then, after some slow meandering, the book takes a turn I did not expect.

Honestly, this book did not blow me away. The whole premise of the book seemed to not have much impact on the story whatsoever which was misleading. I think if they took out the premonition it would not have changed the story or the characters.

Wow!!! I’m sat in tears as I write this review. I love this book, it honestly absolutely gutted me. It was so well plotted out and threw a nice little twist at around 10% that had me hooked. It is such a beautiful read about love and the power of friendship. It will really make you think and after reading this it gave me gratitude for what I have.
This book was read on a day when I really needed it and will be thankful for that.
I devoured this book and instantly purchased the authors other book. This is a book that I highly recommend and can’t wait for its release so I can add a physical copy to my library.
I loved that I didn’t see the ending coming and will 100% be rereading this.
Thank you so much to @netgalley and @atriabooks for the very much appreciated ARC.

3.5 stars

I think I hyped this book up too much for myself. It was a unique premise (where a woman essentially has a flash forward of her life 5 years into the future) and we follow her through her five years to see how she ended up in that flash forward.

Judging by the premise, I was expecting a romance almost mystery/thriller esque book. Instead, it was less intrigue, more a story of friendship and love. I did end up enjoying the story however the expectations I had for the book were too high.

I read it in a day so it was a quick read for me!

Thank you to Simon and Schuster Canada and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this book. I loved how we were led to believe one possible plot path and it ended up being something different. This was one of those books that made me cry,

This was an enjoyable read with a well written storyline. I enjoyed the story as a whole and thought it was an original concept. It might have just not moved enough for me.

Unfortunately, the story fell flat for me. I did not relate to any characters, and sometimes I found myself not caring for what was being written. I did not expect the story to pan out the way it did, which made me give it the higher rating. There was a lot of emotions portrayed throughout the book which I enjoyed.

If you enjoy slower stories this will definitely be the book for you. Just don't go in thinking it was a love story like I did, it might disappoint you.

Wow! This one is hard to describe without revealing the secret parts that need to remain secret! So, here it goes:

Workaholic lawyer, Dannie Cohen, gets engaged to her boyfriend after an evening of celebrating her latest great career move. Later that night, she falls asleep only to wake up exactly five years into the future, same day, same hour. She is shocked to find herself in a different apartment, with a different man, and with a different diamond ring on her finger. After spending an intimate hour with this stranger, she reawakens in her current time. At a loss to understand what happened, Dannie puts the experience out of her mind until one day, four and a half years later, she is shocked to meet the same man under very, very awkward circumstances.

In Five Years is a brilliantly fresh and moving homage to female friendship. It led me through a varied array of emotions from amusement to impatience, curiosity to dread, longing to regret. It is fiction that doesn’t fit into a pre-determined mode. Look at its blurb and then toss away any hints and keep an open mind. This is NOT a romance. It’s not a mystery. Not paranormal. But, it beautifully speaks to life, loyalty and love.

In Five Years is a story about friendship and the realities of the struggles of life. The book is well written and pulls the reader into the story. This book demonstrates the ebb and flow of friendship with compelling characters. I would highly recommend this book. #netgalley

This book was so fantastic. I was not expecting to love it as much as I did. At the beginning of the advance copy that I read, there was a letter from an editor (I believe?) that made me roll my eyes a bit in how much it gushed about the book. Despite the schmaltz of that letter, the book really IS fantastic. The story follows Dannie, a lawyer in New York, who has a dream that transports her 5 years into the future. The majority of the book follows how she reacts to what she saw in the dream and what happens in the 5 years between the night of her dream and the day that the dream happened in 2025. It was very touching and I loved how realistically the author portrayed the friendship between Dannie and her best friend Bella. I very highly recommend this book and will be buying a copy once it's officially published.

I finished this book days ago, and I'm still thinking about it. I was so excited to receive a review copy of this book, expecting a fantastical romcom set in New York City. In Five Years was not what I expected it to be, and I'm so glad it wasn't. This book is heartbreaking, life-affirming, brave, thoughtful and full of depth. I was surprised by the twist, like I'm sure a lot of readers will be, but ultimately I was even more surprised by how much the story, and the relationships between the characters, resonated with me. I loved the emphasis on female friendship, those relationships that feel foundational and life-defining and life-changing. I loved that it was set against the backdrop of a surreal, magical five year leap, but ultimately the story was about so much more than that.
I will be recommending this book to anyone who will listen and can't wait for whatever Rebecca Serle writes next!

I really enjoyed this book! It would be great for Taylor Jenkins Reid fans. Destined to be a bestseller next year.
