This was a simple and cute book. The color scheme was soft and unusual compared to a lot of the other books we read.

This book was only okay for me. There wasn't much story or substance to it. The pictures were cute. It was short so good for kids with a short attention span.

Princess Fuzzypants here: I am used to seeing children’s books that have a whimsical story or adorable artwork but I am afraid this one just didn’t do it for me.

It was not that it was bad. It just wasn’t enchanting and I believe to get children to read you need to enchant them.

Three purrs. One paw up.

This is a delightful story about a parent cat who tries to suggest different way that its bored kitten can entertain itself.

The parent suggests that maybe a nap might ease the boredom. The idea is quickly refuted by the kitten... nope, not tired. Why don't you eat? asks the cat. Negative reply... I'm not hungry. When asked by the youngster if the elder ever gets bored the answer is a simple... no. I wonder why? What meaningful strategies can the older cat impart to its kitten that will result in a valuable life lesson. The answer is obvious and simple allowing the book to relate a profound and inspiring message to all who reads it no matter what their age may be.

The illustrations are large, expressive and unique. The story is a wonderful addition to the New Classic Books Collection. I recommend this book.

I love a good collage moment. This has the bones for that and is probably what I liked best about it.

This one is definitely for ages 4 and below. The story is super simple and would be better as an early reader simple text than any of the kind of messaging etc that the description pegs it for.

I can see a 2 or 3 year old enjoying this, but I’d have to see them with it in order to be sure it would win for them. For me, it was boring (ironically since the kitten is bored in this book), and for the age of kids I work with most this wouldn’t work for them.

2.5 for me.

The Kitten, The Cat & The Apple is the story of a gray kitten who is bored and wants attention. The kitten does his/her very best to engage the adult cat. The cat, who would like a break, I think, does his/her best to respond. The reader then sees what happens.

This is a simple, cute story with amusing illustrations. Children will relate to the cat, while adults may well feel an affinity for the cat.

This book is geared towards very young kids. It is about a cat and a very overactive kitten. He is constantly bored and trying to find some entertainment with the cat. The cat tries to show the kitten how you can not be bored. It is not a book you would reread nor is it endearing. Very straight forward.

Cute litte story and illustrations. I read it to my 2 year old and she pointed and jabbered. This book was perfect for her attention span.

This book was ok, the storyline didn't really make sense but was adorable drawings. It could've been better thought out.

This was a cute book that would be good for a very young child to be used as a picture book, or for a child just learning to read. There are very few words in the book. I read it to my 6 year old and she gave it three stars and I agreed. She said there weren't enough words on the pages and it was too short.

The synopsis promises a lot more than it delivers. I can't see any adult (other than the craziest of cat people) liking this book. It's just a boring story about--appropriately enough--boredom. The kitten is bored. The cat suggests different things for it to do. But the kitten won't nap because it's not tired. And it won't eat because it's not hungry. The cat engages it in a game of apple-swiping, after which the kitten eats the apple and goes to sleep. Zzzz...

Sure, the kitten can represent a young child and their refrain of, "I'm bored!" But is that really what parents want to read about? Picture books can have good stories and still appeal to a wide range of ages. They don't always need "subtle philosophical messages", either (although, I will admit that I'm struggling to figure out what that is in this case).

The illustrations don't really excite me. They're simple paper collages highlighted with a black pen. The colour palette is fairly limited, and there's not much to look at other than the cats, the apple, and the apple's resident worm.

I don't think books about boredom are supposed to bore the reader. Doesn't that kind of undermine the message? The cat says it never gets bored "because, there's always new things to do... and new ways to do it." It may be right. Unfortunately, that means putting down this book and finding something more interesting.

The cute and very simple illustrations and text would make this a great read-aloud for very young kiddos. Many parents and caregivers and will be able to relate to Cat!

Nicholas Tana's children's books are clever and entertaining for adults too. Very imaginative in the way an animated movie has jokes that go over the children's heads but make the adults chuckle.

I read this book to the kids I nanny for and they loved it! They made me read it over and over to them. The story line is so cute! The story is short which is great, because it kept the kids interested and sitting throughout the whole story.

I really like this book because it is a great book to get kids talking about what's happening on a page. The pages that had just pictures allowed the kids to look at the picture and figure out what the kitten, cat, or worm may be thinking.

This was such a great book and I highly recommend it! I will definitely be buying a hard copy to read to other kids I work with!
