A lyrical memoir with lots of delicious sounding recipes. I loved the glimpse into Alice Waters and Chez Panisse. Fanny Singer's life seems magical in many ways and it had me digging out my copy of "Fanny at Ches Panisse".

Fanny Singer writes a memoir about her mother, Alice Waters, and herself and their relationship. Fanny grew up eating fresh, organic food, before the rest of the world realized this was the best way to eat. Fanny and her family were able to travel all over the world, vacationing, eating, spending time with friends who also enjoyed food. Each chapter includes a recipe, many of them simple enough to prepare at home, and with locally-sourced ingredients.

There is really not much worth reading in the current plethora of YA titles so this was a lovely way to enjoy a couple days, I wish I would have read more slowly to savor the writing. I liked the taco recipe, the school lunches, the talk of lettuces and the road trip story best, all of which will stay in my brain. Having had the anthesis of an Alice Waters type mother the details were fun by contrast. I hope Fanny writes about her years in England and ultimately that more aesthetically lovely yet less high priced items will be available on Permanent Collection since we all want some small piece of beauty.

I received this ARC from NetGalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is a cookbook and culinary memoir about growing up as the daughter of revered chef/restaurateur Alice Waters: a story of food, family, and the need for beauty in all aspects of life.
I enjoyed the story Fanny shares of her own culinary coming of age. She included delicious recipes and interesting characters that helped shape who she is. And within it she revealed a side of her legendary mother that has never been seen before.
Alice Waters is the owner of Chez Panisse, a Berkeley, California world restaurant famous for its organic, locally grown ingredients and for pioneering California cuisine. It has been in business since 1971. It cannot be easy being the daughter of such a renowned woman and this book was an enjoyable read. The recipes were interesting as well. I could see myself trying some of these recipes in the future!

Fans of Fanny’s mother will appreciate this book, and I’m sure others will too. It just read a little dry to me.

I loved the book. The mother/daughter relationship was heartwarming. It's not very often that such a strong bond exists. There were many vignettes with accompanying recipes. I have always admired Alice Waters and have read all of her books. It would be a dream come true to one day eat in her restaurant. That said, like mother, like daughter. Fanny Singer grew up in this world of fresh organic food, has traveled all over the world and brings her stories to life in this well written book.
