i really enjoyed this read, the characters were great and the plot was also great. I look forward to more from the author.

This book would fall under a category that very few of the books I read would. I had issues with the characterisation of certain people, the language and violence described. I should have been unable to read this book. I did and actually liked it, in its own way!

The story is based in the 'Wild West' of the US in the post-civil war period where a lot of men were left to their own devices after having fought a battle and seen bloodshed. I spent a long time getting past the first chapter. The gang and their robbery plan seemed too simplistic. Once the actual double cross occurred, however, I finished the entire book (it is not a very big one) in one sitting. The individual elements may not have interested me, but the idea of five men with unique voices find their way in the world and what is most important to them caught my attention. I was satisfied with the ending and would recommend this as a quick read for something uncomplicated based in the 'cowboy' period. Given the period, women do not always come out as victorious in the narrative, but the couple who do make up for that.

I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.
