Ladies and gentlemen, we have another winner on our hands! I absolutely LOVED reading Cobblered to Death by Rosemarie Ross. This is a culinary cozy (my favorite), first in a brand new series, and features mouth watering descriptions of food! YUM! I can't wait to see how the rest of the series plays out. I know this will be a top favorite!

In this, the first book of the new series, we meet Courtney Archer who America knows as a farmer's daughter that has her own cooking show, but in reality is a city girl. She has been asked to participate in a cooking show, but it's not long before things go awry. First, her secret life threatens to be revealed, then a dead body shows up, and then it's discovered that the murder weapon was Courtney's freshly made dessert in a cast iron skillet. Courtney's main concern, of course, is avoiding a jail cell, but the next runner-up is to avoid her secret escaping and her career being ruined.

I have to be honest, I really wanted to like this book because the premise intrigued me. Unfortunately, it was evident early on that this book was not my cup of tea. In fact, by a quarter of the way through the book, not only did I not care that much about Courtney, I also didn't care who won the cooking contest, who the murderer was, and why they had done the deed, I found one of the supporting characters more interesting than Courtney herself. I might give the next book in the series of try just to see if this was just an anomaly, but I just can't recommend this book to others. I received an ARC from Netgalley the publisher to read this pre-released book.

When a new baking competition is being filmed, Courtney Archer, star of” Cooking with the Farmers Daughter”, finds herself sequestered with three other food stars, contestants and crew. When a contestant is murdered with Courtney’s cobbler in her cast iron pan, she needs to clear her name from the list of potential murderers.

Courtney saw a contestant and a judge speaking with the murdered man in a heated conversation the day he was murdered, but needs proof to take it to the police. Even though her Producer has told her time and again to stay out of it and let the police handle it, she just can’t help herself. But will Courtney be able to clear her name before she becomes the next victim?

This is a strong entry in a new series and I cannot wait for more!

Cobblered to Death by Rosemarie Ross is an enjoyable new entry into the culinary cozy mystery genre.

Ms. Ross' writing flows smoothly and her descriptive writing made it easy to imagine how this reality show was being taped. Courtney, Shannon and Eric are all likable characters who are developed slowly throughout the story. The plot definitely had a few twists and turns but only a few suspects to consider as the story progressed. I never guessed who was behind the murder until the reveal which is the way I like my mysteries.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

Courtney Archer is known for hosting the show Cooking with the Farmer’s Daughter . . . despite the fact that she’s actually a pediatrician’s daughter. Now she’s signed on for a role on The American Baking Battle and is hoping to.be able to start developing a more authentic image for herself. But when her own cast-iron frying pan is used to kill a man who had found out her secret, Courtney must first clear herself of murder charges.

Although I enjoyed this mystery, I thought the murderer was pretty much broadcast from their first appearance and the 'romance' was not very believable. I also question how the victim even made it onto the cooking show as a contestant. For a show that contends that they did background checks, it didn't take long to figure out he wasn't who he was pretending to be.

As the first of a series, this is a good start, but Courtney has a lot of growing to do.

Sometimes it takes a while to get used to a new author, but this was an easy read. I really enjoyed this book, and the ending was fantastic. My only disappointment is having to wait for book 2!

I had a hard time getting into this book.
I found it hard to keep track of the characters and the reality television premise didn’t interest me.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

This is a new author for me. Courtney archer is asked to cohost the America cooking battle. When there is a murder and she tries to clear her name. This book started out slow but loved the ending.

I received this ARC via Netgalley and Kensington Books, in return for an honest review. First in a new series and a well-written cosy mystery. Courtney Archer hosts a very popular cooking show, ‘Cooking with the Farmer’s Daughter’. There’s only one giant problem – Courtney was raised in the big city and has never been on a farm. Luckily, her producer and friend was farm-raised so he helps Courtney by ‘interpreting’ for her. To help raise the visibility of her show and prepare for next year’s renegotiation of her contract (when she really, really wants to tell the world the truth about her background), Courtney agrees to be a co-presenter/facilitator on a new reality cooking show, The American Baking Battle. Unfortunately, murder joins the cast as they are all located on a resort that’s being used for the show. When Courtney’s food & cast iron skillet are found to be the murder weapon of choice, she realizes that she needs to clear herself, since the local police don’t seem interested in doing so. Well-plotted and well-written, it will be interesting to see where the story goes next.

A great first in a new series, with a likable main character and friends, a reality baking show, and a mystery that keeps it interesting, looking forward to more.

Thank you Netgalley for giving me a copy in exchange for a fair review.

This was my first cozy mystery, so any tropes/expectations of the genre I do not know.
This book has a very slow start, and it id easy to get confused with the giant onslaught of names early on. It took me until late in the book to get the difference between Travis and Drake.

I liked our MC, I felt like she was very human and felt like a complete person. Although, her reaction to a murder happening was a bit...weak. Someone was murdered and she got over it pretty quickly, it does come back to haunt her a few times. But the first moment, she gets over it so fast I actually laughed. Not just her but like the entire cast kinda laughs off a murder.

The ending was cheesey to me, and I thought the big-bad was just another red herring the whole time. Again, maybe the cheese is just part of the genre of cozy mysteries, so in that case I guess it is a good thing? This was almost a 4 star read for me, but the last few scenes felt just cheesey and corny, like Hallmark movie level.

Cobblered to Death by Rosmarie Ross is the first in a new series of cozy mysteries focussing on the female lead of Courtney Archer.

I enjoyed this first book and I think the author did a good job in creating a like able and down to earth female character. Courtney seems just like anyone else despite her culinary school education and her father being a Pediatrician. She seems humble, friendly, and has a good heart. I also like Shannon, Eric, and Drake and I look forward to seeing how these seconday characters develop.
The murder mystery component was interesting and I did not know who the culprit was until it was revealed. I also enjoyed the ending and it felt that the author left it on a positive note, as well with some strings unattached so that there can be a lead for the next book.

All in all a good start and I look forward to reading the future installments.

4/5 stars
