Cute easy read that was exactly what I needed.
This makes me yearn to be a teenager in summer. Super fun charters and a great writing style. The plot was so fun a prank war- sign me up. This reminded me so much of my fav book The Hating Game buy Sally Thorne. I love a good enemies to lovers!

Fans of hate to love (or maybe, more accurately, fake hate to love), I've found your book of the summer. Meet Me at Midnight is exactly the sort of book I love to read for serious summer feels: Lake house in a quaint small town? Check. Lighthearted drama? Check. A swoony, steamy love interest? Check and check. Woven through the narrative are lots of questions that 18-year-old almost college freshman everywhere deal with during their last summer at home, from relationships to college majors to shifting dynamics between friends and family. While I did feel like certain parts of the story will drawn out too far (there was maybe a little too much back and forth on the will-they-won't-they front to the point where I became frustrated) but overall I loved this book and would highly recommend it for anyone's summer romance reading.

Wow, what an incredible read! Asher and Sidney are both adorable and fun-loving characters. The pranks, the tension between them and the underlying attraction all make this book worth reading. I honestly did not want it to end! I'm looking forward to more books by this author.

This was a super cute & fun read! I loved the banter and pranks Sidney and Asher did to each other through summer! But when a prank goes too far the two & their parents are kicked out of the cabins they always stay in during summer. They are now forced to share a summer house! The two come to a truce and combine forces against the lady who kicked them out! It was great watching these two try to realize they are better together than apart. It makes me want summer and a stay at the cabin! I think all readers willing to read this, enjoy enemies become something so much more! I would highly recommend it book!

Practical jokes and summer romance, what's there not to love?

It was my first time reading a book by this author, and this book was a pretty good first experience.

The characters were very likable, and relatable. While they're your typical YA characters, they don't come of as shallow. Mostly, they remind you of what it was like at that age. The expectations you have navigating through your first serious love, and the pressures of "growing up". The pranks that they played against each other was hilarious, and had me laughing hard at certain times (my husband was totally weirded out by me). They were basically what, and how anyone would be at their age.

But what I really loved about the book was how the writing and the story progression didn't feel forced or rushed. Everything felt natural, and it was paced in a way like how it would've most likely happened in real life. You get to know the characters, and they get to know each other, in a realistic way.

Overall, it makes for a good summer read while lounging by the pool or the beach with a drink in hand.

Meet Me At Midnight is set on a lake in Michigan. Sidney and Asher are the children of college friends. Every year, their families vacation together in a set of cabin. While they two got along the first summer of their joined trip, the following summers resulted in pranks and chaos. This summer, possibly the last trip since they both are entering college, has made them both up their games.
However, after a prank goes wrong, and the families are tossed from their vacation home. Asher and Sid must call a truce to keep from ruining their families vacation, which causes their summer plans to take an unexpected turn.
The setting of this novel is captivating, and well defined. I love books that take place on water, and had no problems picturing the water that became such an integral part of the plot.
The characters are extremely well developed. The two main characters had their own personalities and provided elements of the story that kept me wanting to read.
Sidney is more like me, in that we both tend to look for the worse-case scenario. Despite our likeness, at times I found her pessimism to be annoying, but in a good way. It was this annoyance that made me want to prove her wrong, so I kept reading ahead.
Asher was my absolute favorite. He is such a heartthrob, not just because of his looks, but also because of his compassion and kindness. I fell in love with him a little bit, because he reminded me so much of my husband. He is easily one of my top three fictional character crushes.
I have never anything by Jessica Pennington before, however, I will definitely be reading more. She has a unique writing style that impressed me.
There are a few elements of drinking but the author is careful to prevent the characters from drinking and driving. There are some other elements such as PG-rated, teenage hormones, and minor criminal mischief in the form of pranks. Overall, I would think this is an appropriate read for teenagers 16 and up.
I give this story 5 amazing stars. It was truly a book that I did not want to end.

My very first thought when I picked up this book was that I felt and read like a fun story. I was right. I honestly loved it and it captivated me until the end. I'm not always a big fan of contemporary teen romance books, but this was just a little different I guess.

The story is about Sidney and Asher, two high school seniors who have spent every summer together at a lake in Michigan. The first summer, when they were fourteen years old, they had a lot of fun together. However, at the start of summer two they initiated a prank war that is still going so many years later. When one of the pranks gets out of hand, and the families get kicked out of the lakehouses, they are forced to spend the summer together in one house. To keep the peace they agree on a truce and focs their cunning pranking abilities on their old landlady who kicked them out.

As the story continues you learn about what started the prank war between Sidney and Asher and more of their background stories are revealed as the two characters get to know each other better. Of course, they fall in love. It's a rocky relationship that carries them back home to college as well.

In my opinion the conclusion of the story was a it too quick and easy after all the trials and tribulations the couple went through, but I'm glad that it was a happy ending. They deserved it. And when you start talking about book characters as if they are real people you know that it has been a good book! I only wish I could have seen a bit more of the pranks, they were hilarious in the beginning!

I have to admit this book was slow going at first, in the first few chapters / days I didn't fall in love with the two MCs, didn't love the pranks they pulled on one another and found the story a struggle ... however once I got past the 10% - 15% mark, I started to really enjoy Sidney and Asher. By the end I was struggling to want to put this down!

This does start off a little slow, but if you're looking for something that gives you all the cutesy feels, I really suggest pushing through because this was exactly what I was looking for in a story right now!
I loved how the romanced bloomed, and how the two of them struggled at times to get a grip on what was real and wasn't - in terms of not being sure if the pranks were truly over.
I also really enjoyed the idea that it didn't happen right at the beginning of the book, that it took the two of them a while to truly start trusting one another.

Both Sidney and Asher had distinct personalities which really helped with making sure you 100% knew who you were reading about / seeing the story through.

My biggest dislike with this book was how fast it ended towards the end, it went from going through every day of summer to skipping large parts of when they went to college - I can understand why it was this way, I just wanted more!

I LOVED this book. It was the perfect beach read. It was a cute romance read. I resonated with Sydney and Asher's relationship and how everyone around them knew they'd end up together and how they were "friends"/knew each other a long time before getting officially together. I also liked how they matured and grew through their relationship. I appreciated them breaking up, going to college, learning more about themselves, and then coming back together. One of the dreams of my life is to have a summer lake house. This is a story of growth, friendship, and love.

Sidney and Asher have spent every summer together for the last 6 years, even though they hate each other. So, every year, they try to out-prank each other. But when their final summer together leads to a couple of pranks that eventually get them kicked out of the lake houses their families have rented, they decide to join forces to play the ultimate prank on the woman who kicked them out. Will Sidney and Asher put their hatred aside to play the best prank ever? Or will their final summer together make Sidney and Asher face their feelings head on and get to the root of their hatred?

This book is exactly what teenage romance feels like. It’s light, fun, teasing, and sincere. It develops over years, beginning as a friendship, and changes constantly. It’s a feel-good novel that takes the reader back to a time when the only care in the world was trying to catch the attention of the opposite sex.

I loved every second of this book and was very sad when I finished it. The story line was fun and flirty, the characters were well developed and had the perfect teenage attitude. Reminiscent of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, this is the perfect summer read for anyone who wants to remember the carefree times as a teenager in love. 5 stars!

Jessica Pennington has quickly become a go-to summer reads author for me and Meet Me at Midnight is no exception.

Sidney and Asher have the kind of history that makes you want to root for a friendship or relationship while secretly wanting their rivalry to continue.

I enjoyed that each character is great in their own respect and can be even better together. The family dynamic in this book is one of my favourites in any YA book and it feeds into the storyline perfectly. The best part of this book is getting to revisit previous novel locations and characters. Who doesn't love a good easter egg?

I would definitely recommend picking this up if you are looking for a cute beach read for your upcoming spring break trips.

This is my favorite book of Pennington's yet. I've loved all of them, but Meet Me at Midnight stands out in a way I can't quite put words to. I think part of it is the growth in Pennington's writing, which is bound to come with each book she writes. And part of it is the characters, I simply loved Sidney and Asher. They are equal parts hilarious and awful, sweet and sour...much as we all are at that heading-to-college age. And maybe that's the crux of what I loved - watching their growth and maturity, and the way Pennington captures it, explains it, was masterful.

Sidney and Asher have been enemies every summer. Their parents vacation together on the lake in side-by-side cabins, which means that Sidney and Asher GET to spend every summer together. To make things interesting, they play pranks on one another, sugar in the salt shaker, that type of thing. The pranks get upped a little each year. But this year they get out of hand, and Asher asks Sidney to consider joining forces against a common enemy. Can they find a way to be friends? Or will this all end up in a bigger mess than before?

Believe me, if you love summer romances... If you love YA... If you love stories where the characters grow and see themselves in new ways... If you have a heart... you will LOVE this book.

This is the third book from Jessica Pennington and the third book I’ve read by her. Yes, I’ve read them all and she will continue to be an auto-buy/auto-read author for me. She writes heartfelt young adult romances and I’ve adored every single one of them.

Meet Me at Midnight is another summer romance set in the small vacation town of Riverton. Asher and Sidney have been summer neighbors and prank rivals since they were thirteen. This year is their last summer before college and likely their last summer together. After some over-the-top, horrible pranks that get them and their parents kicked out of their rental, Asher and Sidney call a temporary truce. Can the two enemies become more?

“How much do you hate me right now?”

As I already said, I adored this book. Asher was such a romantic and it seems to be a trend with this author’s heroes. Sidney was a little harder to warm up to, though. She’s never had a boyfriend for more than ten days, so she doesn’t even let “real” people get close to her, much less the reader.

Even though Meet Me at Midnight is a dual POV story, I felt the first half was more open to revealing Sidney’s true feelings. While we are also getting Asher’s POV throughout the book, I felt we never get his true feelings until after halfway through the story. I was a little annoyed by this and felt like I was getting purposely duped by the author. Other than that, I loved the relationship and relationship drama between Asher and Sidney…even though some parts were easily predictable. Still, romantic Asher was totally worth the wait. There’s also a little bit of a love triangle thrown in to complicate things between Asher and Sidney, but it doesn’t get very far.

Now to the pranks. Yes, some were hilarious and creative, until they became irresponsible and reckless. It got to the point where I was constantly dreading the next act of vandalism.

The parents. Well, Asher and Sidney’s parents were probably about my age. *face palm* And I was a little jealous how they get to spend two months every summer vacationing on the lake.

I was so excited to read Meet Me At Midnight because of the childhood enemies. It's a great trope honestly, and I love reading it! Meet Me At Midnight is a perfect summer read full of hijinks and love disguised as dislike.

We follow Asher and Sidney whose mothers were college roommates, so their families have been vacationed together every summer. And every summer, they carry out increasingly bigger and also weirdly specific pranks on each other. I really loved this first half of the book where Asher and Sidney were pranking each other but obviously hiding feelings for each other.

It's the summer before college, which means it's time for big changes. Asher is also struggling to tell his dad that he doesn't want to go into finance, especially because he doesn't actually know what he wants to do. Sidney is dealing with the changes that come with graduating high school and entering college.

I can't really say more about the plot because of spoilers, but I really liked the writing. The pacing was great. This is a page-turner, for sure!

Yeah, so the second half of the book fell a little flatter to me because I was really here for the hate masking the thinly concealed attraction; once that ended, I wasn't as into it. However, this book was still super cute and a great summer read. I definitely recommend Meet Me at Midnight if you're a fan of Morgan Matson or Kasie West!

A cute and adorable contemporary YA romance with one of my favorite tropes in the genre: enemies-to-love.

Sidney and Asher could have been close friends growing up summering together with their parents on the same lake, but instead an all out prank-war keeps them at each others throats until one summer things go a little too far and finds them kicked out of their summer homes and instead reluctant housemates in a new one. Forced into the same space, they call a truce and form an alliance that changes everything.

I liked that the progression in their relationship felt natural and didn't feel rushed was rushed. Asher was absolutely charming, and Sidney's anxieties around their relationship felt true to who she was even when I wanted to tell her to snap out of it. Throughout the story I was rooting for them to be happy. I especially appreciate that the ending wasn't rushed and everything wrapped up in a neat bow with one apology and a smile (although I wouldn't have said no to a longer epilogue).

Side note, I'm an absolute sucker for books with female athletes and can never turn them down.

The pranks have escalated and now they must stay in the same house together. This book has a love/hate storyline, an enemy to lovers trope. This book was hilarious with all the pranks they play on each other. Prepare to be swooned by Asher!

This was a cute enemy to dating book. The prank war between the characters was funny. I loved the the countdown after the summer happened. I would recommend this book for people who have read Kasie West.

I so badly wanted to love this! Sidney and Asher have spent every summer together since they were 12/13 years old, their parents are best friends. After that first summer though, they have been in a battle of wits. Each one trying to outdo the other with pranks. Sounds cute and fun, right? Well, the first half was but the 2nd half lost its luster for me. By that time, it became strictly a love story, which would have been fine but I wanted more pranks and intense moments between them. The second half dragged & I was kinda getting bored with Sidney’s immaturity. Asher? I loved him but he wasn’t enough to save the story.
