This book is so good!!! If I had the whole thing I have no doubt I would finish it in one sitting. I feel like the main characters forced confidence is me 100% so she’s relatable! The world building in just these few chapters has me so excited to get fully immersed when the book comes out! Definitely recommend!

I just read an excerpt from the book and I am so intrigued. Maddie Morrow seems like a complex character with an interesting back story. Taya, who we are introduced to on Maddie's journey to Havenfall Inn, also seems like a character I can't wait to learn more about. The world of Havenfall is new and different, Haven (aka. Earth) is neutral ground between the other magical worlds. I'm so looking forward to the full release of Havenfall!

This is the first time reading something from Sara Holland and I love how she writes! Right from the start the book is amazing and hooked me in from the start! I need more of this story and look forward to the book to be released!

The Havenfall excerpt is amazing, I'm completely captivated and need more! There is a lot of information right off the bat about our characters and all the different worlds and how it works.I feel it is setting us up for an amazing, addicting and unforgettable story!

Havenfall is the only safe place between the different worlds. Its also the only place Maddie feels like she can be herself and be comfortable. Her uncle runs the in and she could be next in line to take over. But when the sanctity of Havenfall is shattered what will they do?

This story already has so much magic, I couldn't put it down. I can not wait to see how the rest of the book plays out.

Thank you to NetGalley, for giving me an excerpt for this book.

Truth be told, I wasn't paying attention and thought I was getting the full book. But now this excerpt has really sparked my interest. All the different worlds are fascinating and I'm intrigued by where the story is going from here. To me, it sort of gives off a Spirited Away kind of vibe. At least, in terms of the hotel being a hub for people from different worlds to gather together in a neutral environment.

I'll certainly be putting this book on my "to read" list, and meanwhile I think I may check out Sara's other books. I liked her writing style here and want to see what else she's done.

Haven, aka Earth, is a place without magic. Havenfall is the town that is the passthrough to the other two worlds still operational. Maddie's uncle is the keeper of the Inn at Havenfall. She goes to spend the summer with him instead of going to her grandma's in Omaha.

This excerpt was a good start to a book. I'm definitely going to read the finished novel because I'm intrigued as to what will happen next. Will Maddie get in trouble for going to Havenfall instead of Omaha? Will something happen to her because she came "unwanted" to Havenfall? Who exactly is Brekken and how is he going to fit into the story?

I also want to check out Sara Holland's other series as her writing style is really interesting.

Havenfall is at the top of my TBR pile. I cannot wait for this book to come out! Thank you #Netgalley for the excerpt!

The brief introduction to the realms was a little confusing, I had to slow down and read it several times. But I am dying to know more about the Last Remaining Adjacent Realms. What about Solaria; will they stay sealed off forever? Are all Solorians bad? So many questions! I am sure to get this one the day it comes out.

Sarah Holland has me intrigued with Maddie and Taya. There is definitely some tension between them, will they be friends or perhaps love interests? My curiosity is peaking on how their characters will intertwine in this story.

I would recommend this book based only on the excerpt, that is how good I think it is going to be.

Wow, this was a very good start!
I love that we get a breef explanation of all the worlds and how they work, very promising. I hope we'll get to travel to those worlds with main characters.
This story has some spooky vibes. A hotel in the middle of nowhere, creatures and magic. I have no idea where the story will take us but I'm intrigued!
We were introduced to two characters so far, Maddie and Taya, and I like them already. Will we get some LGBTQ+ romance or a strong female friendship? Maybe both?
Definitely adding this to my tbr

Havenfall (excerpt) opinion:

Firts of all, I keep listening about the autor so i needed to read something of her. This excerpt was the perfect oportunity to do that.

The book called my attention because is a fantasy book, I really enjoy this type of books, so I just wanted to read it.

We know about the Inn at Havenfall, a place with magic, that had a doors to another worlds.

Our main character, Maddie, go to the Inn all summers, but this summer his father doesn't want her go. She scape and go to the Inn with his uncle Markus, the owner of the Inn.

The story is soooo cool. I like the idea of a place that can go to other place, is like Narnia (something like that). I cann´t tell much more, because I didn't read the completely book, I just need to know so much more about the story and Maddie.

This excerpt was very intriguing as we instantly know that Havenfall is a magical place that doesn’t appear to be ordinary in any way. This gateway is guarded by a family who pass the custodianship over to a member of the next generation. We meet Maddie who is written as someone not running away exactly but perhaps running towards would be a better description. Maddie understands tragedy and meets someone who seems to also have had events happen in her life that have shaped who she is. I thought the writing pulled me in and although I’m undecided whether or not Maddie will find what she’s looking for in really interested in discovering more about the realms and those who live there.

The author has already given a brief outline of the magical world she has created and going by the excerpt, it seems to get better during the rest of the book. I liked her easy writing style especially describing the new magical realms is not an easy task. I am pretty intrigued by how the relation between the two characters would be developing. I am loving what I have read so far, and can't wait to see how the story goes!

Full disclosure: I have not read any of Sara Holland's previous works, and this excerpt is only 26 pages, so my review is based on this limited scope.

The good—the preface and overview of the fantasy world that Havenfall represents is spot on in terms of preparing the reader with a clear setting for the upcoming story without being overly revealing. The introduction of the main character is compelling and her backstory dangles plenty of angsty material to lure the reader onward. The premise of Havenfall is creative and the superposition of a non-magical contemporary Colorado setting as a portal over a multi-faceted (but not too complicated) array of magical realms is intriguing.

The nit-picky—this is an ARC excerpt, so I don't expect it to be polished and the dialog between the two characters at the end of the excerpt seems overly wordy and doesn't flow well. Perhaps trying to pack too many topics into one long rambly dialog.

Overall I think this is a good start and could be a compelling read but could easily wander off the tracks if the real vs. magical worlds fall into the "more world-building than storyline" trap.

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ugh, so so so mad that it was the excerpt and not the whole book that I got because it ended so abruptly! Havenfall sounds like a really interesting fantasy book. In it, you'll meet Maddie and all she wants to do with her life is work at her family's inn. Now this inn is super special because it lets you into two other realms. We don't know much about them since we don't really see much of them in this little excerpt but I'm hoping whenever I get the actual book I will know more about it.

Then there's the fact about her own family. Her uncle is taking care of the inn and the other realms but it will go to her mom at one point. Unfortunately, her mom isn't doing so hot right now. So it might end up going to Maddie herself but her dad has other plans. He wants her to have a real dream but she has no desire for that.

So instead of going where her dad sends her - she goes to havenfall. Along the way, she meets Taya - who sort of almost kills her. We don't really know much about her yet because we've just met her but we do know that she's sort of orphan right now. No idea if she lives with another relative (hoping to know more about her later in the book) but we do know that she lost her parents in an unfortunate driving accident.

Overall, really can't wait to dive into the real book. Hoping it will come available on NetGalley but if not, I will wait for it to come out.

I need the rest of it! I was granted access to the excerpt of Havenfall and I could not put it down! I recently read the Everless series by Holland, which made me a huge fan of her writing. This will be the perfect book for young adults who want a fantasy story, without it being too over the top. I cannot wait for the release next year! I am curious on how the different worlds work too: different worlds, different suns & moons, different weather, but only doored gateways and Havenfall between them.

This sampler certainly convinces me that I need to read the book when it’s released. I have lots of questions, and not that much happened during the one chapter? I read?

This book was received as an ARC from Bloomsbury USA Children's Books - Bloomsbury YA in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I have read Everless and really liked it so I knew going into reading this book I was going to have high expectations. I was pleased from beginning to end of the writing style Sara has which made the book more enjoyable. When Maddie's world gets turned upside down and the place she once called her favorite place in the world has become dark and her friends and boyfriend Brekken relationships become complicated, something must be wrong. Now, when discovering a dead body is in the mirror lake and some pieces are missing to the puzzle. Maddie is determined to figure out some answers and is destined to unlock the secrets the inn possesses to save the place and the people she loves the most.

We will consider adding this title to our YFiction collection at the library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
