My love of dogs brought this title to my attention, but Jenny Boylan's life kept me there. Transitioning through dogs and growing up in a world where transgender wasn't mainstream, Boylan's Good Boy is an inspiring read.

Jennifer Finney Boylan is a remarkable writer--intense, honest, ruthlessly introspective--and GOOD BOY displays all those talents. This is a rich but painful read.

Boylan links events in her life to the dogs she owned throughout her life. Her honesty and warmth make this a memorable read as we learn about her struggles with her identity and relationships worked out. My only quibble is that there were disjointed areas in the text which muted the emotional impact of some of her tales. I'm not sure if this was an issue caused because the text didn't render well on my phone or if the manuscript was a bit wonky.

I had trouble getting through this book. I found it really boring about the dogs and the personal history was not a story I could relate to. I think this book would be best for someone who is a transgender person or has a relative who is and could possibly gain some understanding.
