Well.

I loved the first book in this series. I really liked that it was more cerebral than sensational, and that the authors took the time to set up everything necessary for readers to be able to understand what was going on. I never felt like the high word count was unnecessary, or took away from the story. Likewise, here, with this entry.

Our MCs have all landed in the midst of personal conflict and drama. Marcellus is working for the Vanguard; Chatine is on Bastille; and Alouette is searching for information about her (real) family. And, in some way, they are all could be considered both criminals and prisoners.

It is interesting to see how this story plays out in the decisions our characters make, in the relationships they build or destroy, and how they must come together despite their differences when their very existence is in jeopardy.

Definitely highly recommend this one.

A great second installment in the System Divine series. Don’t be intimidated by the fact that this book is a real chunk at around 700 pages. The story flows well and moves right along so that the reader never feels bogged down in unnecessary sections. The only negative I have is that I have to wait for book three to be written and published!

This book was received as an ARC from Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing - Simon Pulse in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I know we have ourselves a keeper here when I felt like I was at still in the realm waiting for the fugitives to strike but this time save the world. Marcellus, Chatine and Alouette are all prisoners of the same realm but with different motives and offenses. But when their realm Laterre is threatened by a nuclear weapon, the three must band together and travel to the hot center of the earth and defeat this weapon that is set to destroy everything once and for all. Three fugitives set to save the world. My jaw dropped wide open throughout parts of the book and I almost lost my breath. Our teen book club will for sure love this book and I can not wait to share it with them.

We will consider adding this title to our YA collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
