"Donn's Shadow" is a book that seemed like it had potential. It's unfortunately not a great story overall, rather predictable and not very interesting. I wanted it to be more interesting than it was so it was a bit difficult to get through.

Huh...

I was expecting a cute maybe scary mystery and what I got was someone I really wanted to shake and ask what the heck??

This was not bad writing. I liked the atmosphere and paranormal parts but the mystery was easy to solve and the main MC kept doing stupid things.

This book was interesting and creepy. I didn't know who the killer was. Striker the tortoiseshell cat is my favorite character.

I received an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

I actually ened up DNFing this book, it just was not for me. I didn't realize this was a series. I would consider trying something else by the author in the future.

The story was very fun and built throughout the book. Characters that we new, were given enough time to know and care about them, as well as the relationship with them to Mac. I honestly thought it would be all about banishing at the cabin, and focus around that. I was pleasantly mistaken. As always there is more than meets the eye when Mac is involved. The parts on her mum, tug at the heart! It's a strong series, in a field that usually has cliche story lines. It goes on Mac's unique journey as a new psychic. But, is she really? Find the real, from the fake, and the friends from foes in this installment. 4.5*/5

Mackenzie Clair hasn't been in Donn's Hill very long, but she feels like she's beginning to settle down and the place is even beginning to feel like home. She's gotten used to her psychic thing and is slowly learning more about it, the TV show that she films with her friends - The Soul Searchers - is a hit, her kitty Striker is as healthy as a horse and things are just all round going well. Besides the nasty spirit lurking at the cabin near the lake that has injured an innocent who was just looking for some adventure. Mac and Co. have a plan, and just as they're about to put it into action, their seance is interrupted by the one man that Mac said wasn't welcome - Raziel - a famous psychic debunker who has set his sights on Donn's Hill. After Raziel is found murdered in the local inn, Mac is a suspect and she must do everything she can to clear her name. Will she be able to prove that she's innocent? And will she be able to discover who the strange spirit from beyond is that is proclaiming to be able to help her do so?

I'm a sucker for a paranormal mystery, and this one sounded great, and don't get me wrong, it was a good story and it had a lot of well researched information in it in regard to the spiritual stuff which was a welcome change. I just found that the characters were a little blah. It's a little hard to describe, the characters were well written, but I just didn't seem to connect with them barely at all. I cared about what happened to them, but I felt rather indifferent to what was going on. The one that I had the most love for was Mac's kitty - Striker, her character was incredibly well written and I just wanted to pick her up and cuddle her until she clawed my eyes out. And funnily enough, a character who didn't receive much screen time - Elizabeth - I liked her, and I'm hoping that she's going to be a regular in the coming instalments to this series, because I think she'll be great. But as for the rest of the character, they were just very...blah.

The mystery was very well written, and I had an inkling but to be honest, my inkling was a litttttttle bit off the mark, I was close, and my thoughts behind why were actually correct, however, this didn't impact my opinion on the story negatively because I was still a bit surprised at the reveal of the murderer, which as you would all know by now, is a must for me. If I figure it all out a quarter through the book and the other characters have no idea, I get frustrated very quickly. It's just no fun when that happens.

I haven't read the first instalment in this series, but I am wanting to check it out as I feel like I'll get some back story on the characters, as well as a situation that occurred previously that is mentioned a couple of times, I have an idea on what happened as it is somewhat explained, but I'd like to see the incident with my own eyes, so to speak. I also feel that reading the first instalment might help endear the characters to me a bit more, and I think that may be why I couldn't really connect with them in this one.

In this instalment, an overarching story line begins, and to be honest, I'm incredibly intrigued by it. One thing is mentioned in this book that I don't want to go into because I don't want to ruin everything, but I was absolutely giddy at the fact that this particular thing was included in a paranormal story and I really hope we get to hear more about it and the reason that it came into Mac's life in the first place. I feel like that question was kinda answered at the end, but this story line has just really intrigued me.

All in all this was a good paranormal mystery, easy reading, well written, I just didn't really feel anything for the characters and reading it was sort of an after thought for me. I will be continuing with the series though, and I plan to go back and read the first book as soon as I can.

I actually DNF this book. Just was not for me. I would try to read this author again, however. I didn't know this was a series.

When I requested this book I didn’t realize it was Book 2 of a series, so I was kind of disappointed, but the book was pretty good on it’s own. I liked it okay. It had some small language that I could have done without and some other things , but wasn’t much, so just skipped over. Overall, book was somewhat interesting, not what I thought it would be, though. Thank you to #NetGalley and the publishers of #DonnsShadow for opportunity to read and review honestly.

Another great book. Book 2, just like book 1, I finished within 24 hours. The author builds on locations in the first book and expands Mac's abilities as she learns more about her mother's past. Book 2 takes place a little while after book 1 and I feel there could be a short story book 1.5 if the author wanted to go that way. Striker continues to be a great character and continues to be more than just another cat. The story ends but there will be a book three and the ending leads in to book three. Not a cliffhanger, more of a tease. An entertaining humorous paranormal mystery.

Not terribly suspenseful or believable. I love a good supernatural/paranormal this time of year, but this didn't make it.

An engrossing and entertaining read.
The plot is well crafted and kept my attention, the cast of characters is well written and the creepy factor was quite high.
I look forward to reading other books by this author.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
