WOW what a great book! I wasn't sure how I would handle the content of the book because of my own past but I think he wrote a book that respected those who were abused. It's a thriller for sure and it makes you think about how everyone reacts to trauma in their lives and is the way they react "wrong"? Of course it was wrong, BUT..there is that BUT. If you want to get all scientific you can get into the brain and the damage caused by trauma and PTSD. The person Kenny became is understandable. The hurt and pain shaped the person he became. But not everyone who has trauma reacts this way. What a very sad life for this character. You hate the man he is but love the little boy whose life was turned upside down in such a hideous way. This is an amazing book and I loved it! #BoyInterrupted #NetGalley

The devastation, hurt and rage you feel from reading this book is like nothing I have ever felt from reading a book. The upbringing of Kenny is nothing glamorous or loving. If anything it is complete torture. Through all the molestations and abuse, Kenny grows up to hurt the ones that have hurt him. The author will take you on a road of emotions that you have never been down before.

TW: rape, torture, molestation, animal cruelty, gruesome depictions of murder

4.5 stars, rounded up. The more I think about this book, the more intriguing and heartwrenching it becomes to me.

Boy Interrupted is the story of little Kenny Hanson, who at the age of 4 has his innocence shattered in an attack by his own father. He endures this savagery for eight more years, until his "sweetness" is gone and daddy doesn't want him anymore.

As happens in some cases of molestation, young Kenny finds an outlet for his pain and rage, and he does so at a young age. Eventually, Kenny is placed in an institution, where it's expected he will live out his life, unable to hurt anyone.

More than 20 years pass and the elder Dr. Hanson continues to practice medicine with his buddies who also took part in his early charades with young Kenny. But bodies start piling up, all doctors, all tortured and killed in horrific ways.

It's up to Susan, Brian, Raif and the rest of the team to find the connection between these men and stop the killer. Coincidentally (or not?!), Susan at one time was a patient of Dr. Hanson. What role this might play, it's up to the reader to discover.

Boy Interrupted had me at the edge of my seat throughout. Although many parts of this book were gruesome, I stuck with it, and I'm glad I did. Indeed, I found myself seeing life through Kenny's eyes, even if only temporarily, to try to understand some of the things he did.

Each of the characters had great depth and were well written and explored, including Dr. Hanson, who's insanity was hard to fathom, yet written to perfection.

I'm looking forward to more by this author. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The synopsis sounded really good. And was hit with a horrific crime straight away. But I found it to be very slow and unfortunately ended up giving up

I couldn’t get past 20% of this book. The harsh language was a bit unnecessary and turned off from reading more.

This book was a hard read because of its subject matter - a boy who was abused throughout his childhood - and the graphic descriptions of the murders. It was meant to be a tough read though it breaks my heart to know that children are treated like that. Recommended but with a warning based on the subject matter.

This novel portrays the tortured early childhood and psychotic break of Kenny Hanson, a motherless boy raised by a pedophiliac father. Follow the dedicated team of investigators as they race to find the perpetrator and the motive behind a shocking series of grisly murders across the state of Indiana.
Be intrigued with the psyche of a rampaging serial killer. The drama outlines the parental abuse that created a monster out of an innocent child abused to the point of insanity.

The story of a boy who grew up sexually abused by his own father. At the beginning, the police are shocked by a disturbing crime scene that’s eventually followed by numerous, equally-unsettling others. What’s the connection?

This read is definitely not for the faint of heart, though it was skillfully written and it succeeds to evoke various emotions in the reader; it’s disturbing but also tends to get emotional.

Within these pages there is a really interesting look into what makes a serial killer as we get to enter the mind of one through his perspective. Boy Interrupted is worth the read if you’re into police-procedurals that explore the way serial killers operate.

This book was difficult for me to get through, but for all the right reasons. It tackled uncomfortable themes, and the result was a powerful and gripping story. The characters were so well crafted that if you couldn't relate to one, you could at least understand and envision them, as they came to life in every sense of the word. The writting was so on point that it helped the reader navigate the complex story line, as well as care about the characters as you watched their development.

This book grips you from the very beginning and never lets go. Riveting, end of your seat detective novel. This book does have some very sensitive matter but the author does a good job of softening the blow for us.

Muncie, Indiana is the background to murders, sexual abuse and plenty of violence - but the author does a great job with all of this!

Fabulous twist at the end, and my only gripe is that, except for the boy, all the other characters could have been more developed?

Thanks to Net Galley for a chance to read and review.

Kenny was four years old when his father, a medical doctor started raping him. After that the father would invite other friends to come and have their way with his child.
Susan is a detective with a case she is deeply invested in. Several doctors have turned up murdered in the surrounding area. Not only dead but tortured, flayed, cut up. It's enough to make the investigators throw up. Who is doing the murders is what they need to find out and fast. The killing is escalating. Susan doesn't know that she will be an integral part of the killers psychotic spree. And it won't be as a detective.
A thriller written in a raw and detailed manner that is bound to set your stomach churning and your heart racing!

I hate to give bad reviews on a book but I just couldn’t get through this book. My initial issue of this Arc is all the typing errors ... two words being combined, misspelled words. I’ve read quite a few Arc and understand this isn’t a finished copy but there were more errors than I could handle. Story wise so liked the idea but felt no connections to the characters. I kept trying to read it but halfway in I felt like I was doing more skimming then reading.

Wow. I felt this book on many levels. It was difficult to read. Makes for the pity and shocking of what had become.
A tough subject that makes you feel too many emotions. I just cannot unread what I read.
