I really wanted to like this book. But there were too many story lines and it was hard to follow. Stick with two people.

This book held my attention while I was reading it, but it was somewhat disappointing. All of the plot lines were predictable and all of the characters were underdeveloped.

I was immersed in this story immediately and read it in just a couple of days. The dual timeline tells the story of two women. In 1952, Esther Durrant is a young housewife and mother who has gone through an unspeakable tragedy that puts her into a deep depression. Her husband takes her to a remote island where a doctor friend of his operates a small facility specifically for helping men who are recovering from the tragedies of war. Against his better judgement (because he's never treated a woman there), but as a favor to his friend, the doctor agrees to try to help Esther recover. In the present, we follow Rachel. She is a loner who travels around the world studying different types of clams for a scientific project. But she never settles in one place for more than a couple of years, thus avoiding long-term commitments of any kind. Rachel and Esther's stories come together as the book progresses, and the solution to the mysteries that come up along the way are revealed one by one. Do you like a love story? This book has them. Yes, more than one. The love of a mother for her children, the love between friends, and traditional love stories that unfold over time. Do you like mysteries? Plenty of those. I liked this book a lot and hope you will pick it up when you have a good amount of time to spend with it. Because honestly, you won't want to put it down. (Thank you, HarperCollins, for the advance reader's copy in exchange for this fair and honest review.)

This is the story of two women from different eras, Esther and Rachel. Esther who found her true love but it was at the wrong time and could never be. Rachel was afraid to commit herself to a real relationship and fall in love until she met Jonah. This book will captivate your heart and it is hard to put down once you start reading it. I enjoyed every page and l look forward to reading more books by this author.
