I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley!

I mean, just look at the cover and the title. How could this NOT catch your attention?
While the book is clearly a parody, it covers a very important topic.
I loved the book honestly.

Written in the circular story style, this is a book that in simple terms explains the dangers of opioids to children and adults. The more people warned about addiction, the better!

This is an excellent introduction for parents and their children to the dangers of prescription drug addiction. The story of Oscar the Ox who gets addicted to oxycodone is told with pictures, for the young reader, and with easy to understand text (with reference sites) for adults. The book explains how opioids affect dopamine, the hormone released by the brain’s pleasure center, their safety if taken as prescribed for a brief period, and the dangers of using it when no longer needed for acute pain control.

This is not, nor is it meant to be, a scholarly discourse on opioids. It’s a book to be used to open the discussion on their uses and misuses with young people, and can be used by any adult who has or works with children. The story of Oscar covers all the bases and the illustrations are fabulous.

I received this book as an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley..

Quick read, but very informative. I think 4th grade up, even teens and adults could learn about opiates from this book. I personally feel they should just stop making and prescribing the stuff. But it's good to have a book full of information about the current crisis written by a doctor. It's written a lot like If you give a Mouse a Cookie, that should entertain young kids and attract them to read the book and learn about the drug and addiction. I am guessing the book could be used to explain any type of addiction.

Adorable images, simple headlines, and informative text. A great and quick read for anyone wanting to learn more about opioids.
