I have absolutely awful handwriting. Print especially. So getting this book was so helpful. I love calligraphy but had no idea where to start. This book is short and to the point, which with my short attention span, was very helpful!

Lettering for Absolute Beginners Workbook was okay for beginners. I think there are other better beginner books available.

I loved getting the opportunity to read this book. Lettering is popular right now. It’s so cool watching the talented ones that are crafty at this. I’m excited to get a peek into it.

There are some cute beginner projects in this workbook, but as with most workbook style lettering books, I feel there are too many "practice" or alphabet pages. I'd rather have a book full of projects, with a primer for lettering at the beginning. I would skip this one if you have any lettering experience.

I was given this free review copy by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I think this was a great beginners book. It was easy to see on my kindle. I would recommend for newbies.

I didn't suck at this. This was a great book and taught me a lot of beginner lettering. Some of these can be really hard to learn and I never feel like I can get to the level that the creator is. This is still outside of my current skill level but I think I could do this half decent.

The art of hand lettering is popping up all over the place, and it's a beautifully simple craft to learn. This book introduces the basic concepts, and recommends various tools and mediums.

With simple instructions and lots of lovely pictures, this introductory guide has everything you need to get started with your own lettering practice.
I love that Stringer recommends using regular pencils, permanent markers and cardstock to get started, as these are things most of us already have on hand.
There are projects with more specialist equipment such as paint pens and chalkboards, but you don't have to start with anything expensive or fancy.

The ideas and projects are simple enough that you can translate the concepts to whatever you wish, whether you want to hand letter cards, dishes, canvas etc.

This book is a fantastic asset if you wish to personalise Christmas gifts, make your own cards or even just add a bit of flair to your everyday script.

I would buy this book for people like my mother, who enjoy creative things already, and want to do things like scripture journaling and sign making.

Not what I expected when I first saw the book, but good for beginners overall. For me, it was too basic and didn't like the style

This was an okay workbook. It is for beginners and a decent guide to hand lettering. It is a good way to practice, but similar to other books.

Not exactly what I hoped for.

I have found the instructions quite bland in this book, felt like the contect might make a great video though.
I have to also add, that since I have received the ebook version, this might have affected my experience greatly.

I appreciate the time the author must have put into this book, but it was just not for me.

This is a great resource for learning a new skills while being stuck at home during the coronavirus outbreak.

This book shows how to make beautiful letters, then offers instructions on making different projects. My favorite is the giving plate. You can also find a chalkboard project, gift bags and more. The section of Bible journaling is interesting and informative. Knowing how to make beautiful lettering for drawing a quote in the margin of a Bible is invaluable.

I received an ARC from Fox Chapel Publishing through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and am under no obligation to do so.

A great book for those who want to start lettering. It has been really useful for me now that I decided to start lettering as one of my resolutions for the new year. It is a very interesting and helpful book.

This short book shows a kind of 'painting' letters to make them look like calligraphy along with a number of projects you can do, such as painting on a plate or on wood or in your bible. I really like this idea as I'm not all that interested in learning calligraphy but would like to add pretty lettering to various projects. However, I wish the author had shown more projects that were more practice-ish (maybe bullet journal-ish?) and less some fancy item that you could only hang on your wall. Additionally, although the examples looked very pretty, I did not feel like I would ever do any of them. And there is definitely a Christian slant for those who want that or are bothered by it.

Unfortunately, this book had very little in the way on instructional material and was not helpful in my quest to learn how to hand letter.

If you do any type of crafting today, you know that lettering is a huge current trend. From wooden signs to chalkboard art to handmade cards - they all revolve around really amazing hand lettering. My husband is a master at this and even free handed sign painting. I, on the other hand, stink at it. I have beautiful handwriting but somehow that never has translated to creative lettering. Now, with Lettering for Absolute Beginniners, I have mastered, okay, not mastered but I'm so much better!

Lettering for Absolute Beginners is a workbook not unlike the handwriting workbooks we used when we were kids and initially learning how to write. You will go through a series of practice pages, one letter at a time, using basic creative lettering skills. While some still were beyond my capability (I really am pretty bad) there were a few that I've conquered and have used in various crafts. I even use it on our Bed and Breakfast chalkboard menu and guests have complimented me on it.

If lettering is something you are interested in, this is a perfect book to learn or master several creative skills.

I definitely thought the description of tools that can be used for “faux calligraphy” (the book calls it this) was incredibly helpful. Overall, though, the step by step was a little bland.
