If you are looking for a perfect book like the movies, this is your read; fresh, romantic and full of happiness it will leave a smile on every page!
I had to wait for this book for 6 long months but I finished it with just one day! So you can imagine how much I loved it! It’s a love story, yes, a rom-com if you want to be more precise, full of funny situations, interesting characters and a large list of movies that I am sure you’ll love to watch!
The story is told by Evie Summers, but on every chapters there’s a little summary in the beginning telling us where and what is she doing and the conversation she is having at the moment with her friends via mobile. And I’ll have to say that with just this, the story was different from the others books I am used to read, it gives you an insight of Evie’s life that makes the reader being more involved in the book and interested in knowing more. Because I can assure you that Evie’s life is not boring at all, wherever is she there’s trouble and a possible “perfect man” nearby.
The story per se is original, Evie is trying to find the “love of her life” like in the movies, with an “accident”. It will not be easy, the perfect man is not easy to find as you know, but it will be hilarious, really, she will find quite a few frogs, and the situations will stay with you for a while, but I can assure you that there will be a prince too!
What I didn’t like much was the friends, they are a little bit too self centered for my taste, but Evie didn’t talk much about her problems with them, so I suppose I can’t complain much either!
“Would like to meet” is a book I will recommend to any reader looking for romance and a cute story, do you know which is the only problem I found? It’s too short!

If you are looking for a well-written, fun rom-com for a light read to take your mind off things, then this fits the bill. Yes its a little predictable, but thats exactly what I would expect from this type of book. Based on a clever concept, it has a great cast of likeable characters and it gave me exactly what I wanted - it made me smile, made me laugh and provided me with a few hours of enjoyable escapism.

Thank you to Netgalley and Orion for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I read this in one sitting..... This book is difficult to pin down for me. It has everything you could possible want in a rom-com : a heroine who messes up but you still want to root for, a hilarious friend group you would totally go drinking with, a hero (or two!) who might be the one, and a meet cute (or twelve hundred). I loved so much of it. Some of it, both dialogue and situations, were great. Other moments just.. maybe dragged on or, just due to circumstance, frustrated me.

This is definitely an author I would read again. It's a pretty great debut. There's a lot of heart here, a lot of greatness, but I do feel like it's also just trying to do a little too much. And that's not counting all the big movie moment recreations.

I would say the synopsis is a little misleading. But we see where the story is going straight away and was pleased with the direction it took.

BOOK REVIEW: Would like to meet by Rachel Winters

3 stars

I was in need of a cutesy rom com and that is exactly what I got.
I loved Evie putting herself through classic meet cutes, it was actually funny which often romcoms fail to do. Evie was sweet, smart, kind and quirky. I loved her!
The storyline was pretty different and although I guessed the twists in plot and the shock moments, it didn't matter. Yes it was cheesy but we all need a bit of cheese sometimes. It made me smile and laugh which is the main thing.
I found it got a little silly towards the end and I wish there has been more scenes of Evie with the love interest. I liked the friends characters apart from Sarah who was irritating and just made me cringe rather than laugh.
Still, I enjoyed it and although to me it wasn't incredible, I am glad I read it.

What a lovely if not a little predictable story and thoroughly entertaining book - I loved the characters and laughed out loud sometime too - a very easy read for a holiday read and I would recommend. Many thanks to netgalley for an arc of this book in return for my honest opinion.

This is a very cute story, though I felt it was a bit longer than it needed to be. A lot of characters to try and keep track of too.

Evie is a very likeable character and I kept reading as I wanted to see what happened in the “meet cutes” and if would choose in the end (and yes it was the right person!)

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving an arc of this book and the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my review.

This is a very cute fiction romcom which has huge appeal to fans of onscreen romcoms. Evie is a lovely character, hardworking but indisputably taken advantage of by her boss Monty and with little time or inclination for love since the breakup of her last relationship. A desperate attempt to keep Monty’s business afloat leads to many far fetched but very funny failed attempts to find love. There’s a fair amount of predictability to this however Evie’s madcap endeavours and the sheer warmth of the writing make for a real feel good read.

Thank you for the advance copy to read and review.
Absolutely loved the book Rachel, made me laugh and cry all together.
Made me think, maybe she’s tried all these meet situations as they felt real, like watching it on TV play out.

The book was cute! and beyond that.
Everyone loves to have a fairytale romance of happy ever after, but it’s also a good idea to step back sometimes and appreciate what’s right in front of you.

I loved this book so much. A brilliant read.
A great romcom which made me laugh and cry. Evie was so relatable, trying to please everyone and always letting herself down. A love triangle with two very different men - I was routing for them both and the ending was very satisfying! No spoilers though.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Rachel Winters for letting me read Would Like to Meet.
Highly recommended.

I’ve mentioned before how I struggle to find romance novels that suit my tastes. Part of this might be due to the fact that having found so many that don’t quite meet my needs, I’m hesitant to take risks on new titles for fear of just being disappointed. However, I know Rachel – in her other life she’s an incredible editor, who has overseen the publication of some amazing books. She knows what makes a book good, so when the news of her novel came out, I was excited. When I saw the premise, I was ecstatic.

I love tropes. I’m such a big fan of seeing the way people interpret them and play with them. Whether they’re playing it straight but doing it really well, or subverting it entirely in a new and original way, I love seeing how authors take them on and give them their own spin. And this book isn’t just one trope, it’s loads of them. Rachel has taken popular ones from romcoms and had fun applying them to her story and characters and she does it perfectly. I’ve heard people say that characters in romcoms are all psychopaths, and behave in ways which are completely outlandish in real life, which is why I delighted in the pragmatism of everyone in this book and the way all the scenes played out.

Evie may well be the romantic heroine I’ve been waiting for. She’s a smart woman, dedicated to her job, funny, normal, and a bit of a feminist. She’s not a caricature, she’s someone I enjoyed spending time with. The same with her friends – and I think Jeremy is probably my favourite – they’re people with strong personalities, and a rock solid relationship. Ben and Annette are perfect as well, the new friends Evie makes while attempting to complete as many meet-cutes as possible for her sexy-yet-maddening screenwriter client.

It’s clear from the start that broody-yet-sexy single dad Ben and gorgeous-but-arrogant Ezra are the two romantic leads in this, and Rachel does a brilliant job of balancing the tension from both sides. Halfway through the book I still couldn’t decide who I really wanted Evie to get with, and could have seen myself happy with whichever ending could have developed. There was something really special about Ben and Annette, their relationship, and the way each of them built a relationship with Evie as the book went on. It was so warm and gorgeous, and it hit all the right notes.

One of my favourite things about the story was the way that no drama was unnecessarily escalated simply because the characters weren’t communicating. At every misunderstanding, there was a bump in the road, but then they talked to each other like normal people. This meant that relationships and characters got to grow past the encounters and evolve based on new understandings. It’s a really natural progression of narrative that meant no-one was spending an entire book operating under a misunderstanding that could have easily been resolved.

The humour was exactly my cup of tea as well. Evie is dryly witty, and finds herself in ridiculous situations but never rises to be ridiculous herself. She remains grounded through chaos around her, and is all the more relatable for every time she stands there and goes “are you kidding me?” as the scene spirals around her. That doesn’t mean she’s passive: she’s brilliantly self-possessed and definitely the hero of her own story, pointedly not taking the back seat in the meet-cutes (as she continually reminds herself), but instead defining the terms of the engagement herself at every stage.

I blitzed through this book in three days, which felt like such a breath of fresh air after I’d struggled for weeks to get into The Sisters Grimm. I had thought I was suffering from intense reader’s block, but I think it just goes to show how much some books just work for some people. I couldn’t get on with The Sisters Grimm, but I inhaled this.

I can’t wait to see what Rachel writes next, because this book was everything I love about romcoms, with some bonus things which I’ve always missed. There were so many things which struck home, made the story seem so real, and parts I still remember and chuckle about. I can’t recommend it enough.

Briefly:

A smart, funny, relatable romcom for fans of the genre, particularly of classic romantic films. Rachel gives nods to all of the classic movie romance tropes and clearly takes great glee in dismantling them.
Evie is such a brilliant narrative character and there were so many points where I felt like she could be channelling me. I laughed out loud a lot reading this, the humour is so grounded and recognisable it feels very real. Anyone who’s been stuck on the M1 northbound in the rain will feel that particular scene deep in their very soul.
The ending is built up to be so deliciously satisfying. It’s triumphant and wonderful and probably even better than when Katherine Heigl reveals what an asshole her sister is in 27 Dresses. It’s fantastic.

Rating: 5/5 – this is definitely going to be one I read again and again. It hit every sweet spot for me and surprised and delighted me at every turn.

Would Like To Meet has a flirty and witty British rom-com feel to it; if you've grown up a fan of those classic rom-com movies then I would recommend giving this one a try.

Evie's career is quite frankly at a complete standstill; she wants to be an agent but is still an assistant at the age where she's pretty much the oldest one in town - and and those in the same industry know it! But with the screenwriting company in financial dangers Evie then see's opportunity - all she has to do within 3 months is write the promised screenplay - by seeking out, and staging various 'meet-cute' moments - proving that these 'falling in love' moments don't just happen in the movies!

What follows is a whole series of 'meet-cute' scenarios but they're far from the picture-perfect movie moments!

I wanted to love this book, but unfortunately there was just so much going on for my liking where it just felt too chaotic at times - I think Evie's group of friends being one of m main problems -so many characters and so many issues got in the way of the rom-com set up situations and gave the novel a bit of a jumbled feeling for me, that I just kept getting frustrated whenever they popped up.

If the above wasn't there (as much) I believe I would of really warmed to this story as I adore my rom-coms and those staged moments were definitely flirty and witty and I cans see exactly what the author wanted to do.

There was a coffee shop where Evie often went to work at and in there are two regulars, Ben and his daughter Annette who became my favourite characters very early on. Ben was a single dad who had lost his wife and was still struggling with that, but he often popped up helping Evie out in particularly tricky and sticky situations. Whilst I knew here this plot was going, it didn't dampen my enjoyment of seeing it plan out.

A solid 3 stars, sadly the friend disruptions just too overwhelming/disruptive for my liking.

Evie wants to be an agent and this is the story of the task that might just get her a promotion. Predictable, but a nice fluffy read.

Funny, flirty and heart warming. This book felt like a warm hug, managing to add a little bit of cheer to a wholesome romance that feels believable and charming. Evie Summers is a struggling film intern who’s running the fine line towards loosing her job. To save it, she has to convince big shot client Ezra that people really do fall in love like they do at the movies, and get him inspired to write the movie script of the century. What follows is a series of meet cutes that show Evie that real life can get a whole lot messier than the movies.

I liked Evie as a main character. She’s a staple of the genre - strong willed and too ambitious to ‘find a man’ but also vulnerable underneath. She’s also a disaster magnet, to some hilarious and cringy results that made me laugh out loud with each recognisable meet cute that she sets up. She’s relatable, modern and down to earth. This is further enhanced by Evie’s circle of friends who bring out the best in her personality and make her feel realistic and well rounded as a character. All of her friends are identifiable (and possibly cliched) from popular romantic comedies and from different walks of life that help enhance Evie’s loneliness but also loveable personality. Her friends obviously love her a lot.

The plot is very light and breezy, predictable but with some really unique highlights that plays on the typical cliches seen in the movies. It was sweet, fluffy and perfect for an easy read.

I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

It’s not a secret that though I’m not a huge fan of romance novels, I adore chick-lit. There’s something so easy to read and fun. I love losing myself in these women’s lives.

Would Like to Meet was a book that I’ve had an arc of for a while but it took me ages to get to. But when I did, I devoured it. It follows Evie Summers, a publishing assistant who had always wanted to be a screenwriter. When a famous screenwriter refuses to write a rom-com until he believes they’re realistic, Evie has to recreate famous movie meet cutes to prove they can lead to love.

Evie was a great main character. She was cautious, funny and I share her appreciation for a good rom-com. Her friends were great and the romance though obvious was so cute. This book contains one of my favourite tropes where a kid tries to bring a couple together and it’s both hilarious and adorable.

I’m seriously going to have to buy a physical copy of this book as soon as I can because I want to hug it to my chest.

This was a very enjoyable British rom-com story set around the 'meet-cute' premise.  I love the term meet-cute, the first time I'd heard it was in the film The Holiday, so a book set around it sounded really appealing to me.

Evie works for a screenwriting company, that is is financial trouble, and reluctantly agrees to help NOB (Number One Boy Child!), i.e. Oscar award winning  Ezra, to get past his 'writer's block' and write the promised rom-com screenplay within three months to help save the agency.  To do this she sets out to recreate lots of meet-cutes from various films to prove that rom-coms are believable, sending details to NOB so he can get inspiration for his screenplay, leading her on a very funny journey with various characters.  And whilst NOB was very annoying most of the time Evie didn't take any rubbish from him and they had a very amusing relationship.

Evie's friends were a great bunch (they reminded me of the friends in Bridget Jones Diary), all doing different jobs and on their own paths, along with one about to get married so there's wedding/hen-night madness, but always there for each other.  Evie often went to a coffee shop to work and regulars there were Ben and his daughter Annette.  I really loved these two, especially Annette who was such a character.  Ben was still struggling with losing his wife 3 years ago but was always helping Evie out of sticky situations.

I must admit at the beginning of this book I though it might be a bit daft, but it actually didn't take me long to get into it and by the end I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Very funny, light-hearted and easy reading book with a really lovely ending.  It definitely had the feeling of a rom-com film, like Bridget Jones Diary or Love Actually.  Delightful!

An enjoyable read, if a little slow to get off the mark. I guessed what was going to happen, and who the love interest would be early on, but that made it all the more enjoyable as I waited for the proverbial s**t to hit the fan. There were a lot of characters so it did take a while to get my head around who was who but if you like romcoms and romcom films this is sure to hit the spot.

I really enjoyed this! I thought the dialogue was smart and witty, really good British wit. I loved the main character Evie and found that I couldn't put the book down until I had finished it. Will certainly be purchasing a copy for our library.
