I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.

The Way Of The Brave by Susan May Warren is a Christian contemporary suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat. It is the first book in the Global Search And Rescue series which promises to be fantastic.
The central theme is that of rescue. There are actual rescues which are mirrored by God who wants to rescue us from a life of disconnection from Him. The effects of our pasts may pull us away from God as we deal with our anger and hurt. God may even seem absent. “She wasn’t sure God was even listening to her anymore.” God hears and God sees. God is present whether we feel Him or not. In our anger and our pain, God longs for us to turn to Him and let Him relieve us of our burdens.
The evil one wants to distract us from God’s love. “Evil wants to shut you down. Shame you.” The enemy tells us we are no good. We are unworthy. We need to drown out his voice with the love of God.
God is love. His character is love. We must always remember this in the bad times. God will never abandon us. “God didn’t base His actions… on what she thought of herself.” Our feelings and emotions are unreliable gauges. We need to trust in the character of God.
We need a heart connection to God. There is the theme of hearts within the novel. There has been a literal heart transplant giving a second chance of life (before the book opened). Likewise God can exchange our hearts of stone for a hearts of flesh giving us a second chance of life.
The reader witnesses a character paralysed by past actions. We sense the tension that wars within – to tell the truth or keep the past hidden. “Our past doesn’t need to keep us from flying.” When we release our burdens to God we can live free.
Susan May Warren has created a marvellous cast of characters with their realistic flaws and concerns. They are easy to empathise with. Her plotline is well thought out and executed as we witness the many ways in which we can be brave.
The Way Of The Brave is a fabulous start to a riveting new series.

A well written novel with good characters and plot. However there was just something about the author's writing style that didn't click with me.

Susan May Warren certainly brought the tension in this story! Every time something so much as moved on Denali my pulse was jumping. Seeing all the technical aspects of mountain climbing and how much preparation goes into these trips was fascinating and the sheer amount of research Warren must have put in was evident. Orion and Jenny were intriguing characters and with such a tragic link in their past. Seeing them grow and heal in the face of Nature’s fury was enthralling.
This story started off a little slow for me, but I could hardly put it down by the time everyone had made it onto Denali. I absolutely cannot wait to pick up Jake and Ham’s stories!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Way of the Brave is guaranteed to get your heart rate pumping. Susan May Warren writes high anxiety thrill rides better than anyone I know.

Orion Starr left the Army with a shattered knee and a shattered heart. His final rescue ended in the betrayal of his team, with nearly everyone dying, except for him. His home in the shadow of Denali in Alaska is supposed to bring respite to his soul. Instead, the arrival of a man he thought died in that last op puts questions in his mind about whether anyone else is being held captive. As he contemplates the options, Ham Jones comes looking for him. Hamilton knows Orion's strengths, and he knows what demons haunt him but Ry is the best mountain guide there is. When a group of climbers goes missing, can Ham's team - including Orion - find them before someone else dies on the mountain?

Jessica Calhoun climbs increasingly difficult mountains to outrun the guilt she feels. As a CIA analyst in Afghanistan, she green-lighted an op that ended in death for most of the team. Worst of all, the man she had fallen for - Orion Starr - never knew her part in the debacle, and she wants to keep it that way. Running into him minutes before her group leaves to begin their climb up Denali wasn't in her schedule, and she convinces him that he has the wrong woman when he calls her "Jaycie". She's strong, but can she hold her group together when the mountain turns deadly, and one of her friends is in trouble?

Let me just tell you, if you are at all claustrophobic, you might not want to read this book. Warren does such a stellar job of describing a fall into a crevasse, or the tents used in an excursion like this, that I felt the walls of my house closing in as I read! Throw in a little danger on both ends of the book, and this book will keep you up at night until you finish.

This is book 1 in Warren's Global Search & Rescue series, but it has a tie in to both her Montana Rescue series, and her Montana Marshalls series. This can be read as a stand-alone, but it was kind of fun to find some characters I'd met before in these other series. Adrenaline junkies will LOVE this. I don't know if Warren is an ice climber, but she sure convinced me that she knows her stuff. I absolutely recommend this, and can't wait to start "The Heart of a Hero"!

The research Susan May Warren put on this book is AMAZING! I felt being there with the characters. Yikes!
The rough and dangerous environments are, in Orion's point of view, what keeps him sane, as if they could control his anger and disappointment. But there is just so much that can be locked up, specially when the past comes back haunting you. Or challenging you.

As always, Warren delivered an adventure to a T. Sprinkled with truth and fun characters :)

This author writes a fast-paced suspenseful book. It keeps you engaged and thoroughly involved with the story. I enjoyed getting to know Orion and learning more about him and his time in the army. I read this series out of order and so I knew about Orion and Jenny though I didn't know about their story.

Even out of order this book reads well and you really cannot put it down. This is one of those books that you look at thinking oh yeah it'll be good. I'll just read a chapter now. And then you're on the last chapter and you have to finish it!

I loved this book. It kept me riveted. I don’t know much about climbing a mountain. Okay. So I know nothing really but after reading all the technical stuff I feel like I could climb one!

But better than thinking I can climb a mountain are the wonderful characters that I fell in love with. I can’t wait to see where they end up.

This book was a thrill ride! I loved being on that mountain with Orion and Jenny as well as her friends. I would give this book 4.2 stars out of 5. I did think the spiritual and God parts of this book were a little preachy and took away from the story instead of adding to them. I also think there were so many characters it was a little hard to keep with the story. I understand she probably wanted to introduce them all as there are going to be more books on the characters, but I would have loved to see more in depth writing with Jenny and Orion. This is a survival suspense story with a little bit of romance. I wish the romance part had been a little bit more. Overall I enjoyed this book and am already reading the next one!

WOW!! Nonstop adrenaline filled adventure from beginning to end!

Jenny, Sasha and Aria have a yearly girls mountain climb every year so they can remember how strong they are together and what they have overcome in their individual lives. When their climb goes bad, they are forced to fight for their lives against the severe elements and mountains.

Orion, Ham and Jake are the rescue team who go after the women and the other lost hiking group. I liked how they worked together and their strong drive to help and rescue others.

This story mostly focuses on Jenny and Orion‘s relationship especially from three years ago when they previously met in Afghanistan. Over the years, life events changed both of them and they both struggled with regret, anger, faith and loss. As they fight for their lives against the elements, they are able to communicate more and work thru their struggles and faith in God.

I really hope book 2 (comes out this summer) will pick up with Aria and Jake-they seemed to really hit it off in this book. I also hope we will find out more about Ham’s family and more about their rescues as a team.

I loved all the different dynamics of the three men and women. Can’t wait to read more from this global search and rescue series. I could barely catch my breath with all of the action in this book and didn’t want to stop reading.

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

The Way of the Brave puts the suspense into the Romantic Suspense genre. Unlike most of the books in the genre, this one does not have a human antagonist. Instead, the characters face off against the unforgiving Mt. Denali. Orion and Jenny are forced to face their past together in Afghanistan while weather traps them on the mountain. While the book got very technical on the ice climbing information, it was an enjoyable read and sets the stage nicely for Jake and Ham’s books.

Orion and Jenny knew each other in Afghanistan before a military op went wrong, lives were lost, and Orion’s knee was destroyed. Orion hides from the world in his home at the foot of Mt. Denali. While Jenny runs from her past by moving forward and not looking back. As they face the past while they battle the elements on the mountain, the old adage rings true. Sometimes the hardest thing is forgiving ourselves.

Aria and Sasha join Jenny on the climbing expedition, while Jake and Ham round out the main rescue crew. They are good friends and see the different struggles Orion and Jenny are facing. While they do their best to help with the mental trauma, they also recognize that they ultimately have to seek help themselves. This includes the spiritual aspect of their lives. Ham especially sets an example of showing a Christian walk without being overbearing.

I know nothing about ice climbing, so some of the technical details did not make any sense to me. I even put down the book to look up what a figure four was because the book’s explanation was confusing me. Finally, I got to the point where I just determined if they were going up, down or sideways, and let the minutiae go.

Those who have read other Susan May Warren novels, especially the Montana Marshalls series, will enjoy some of the background plot elements that have carried forward. If you have not read those books, this book works well as a stand-alone beginning to the new series.

Overall, while the technical bits bogged the book down, it was an enjoyable read.

The Way of the Brave is the first book in a new Global Search and Rescue series by Susan May Warren. This story takes place on the peaks of Denali. Orion Starr has spent his life rescuing people and now is faced with his greatest challenge the dangers conditions of Denali. Ex-CIA Jenny Calhoun planned an uneventful climb up the mountain, but now her secret may result in her losing her life. Can Orion and Jenny work together to save others and themselves?

This is the first book in a new Global Search and Rescue series. This story follows Orion Starr, a former pararescue jumper who has gone back to Alaska to recover physically and emotionally from his last mission. His friend, Hamilton Jones, is trying to get him to join his new team that goes in and rescues people but Orion wants no part of that. When a group of climbers get lost on Denali, and since Orion knows one of the women, he joins in the search party and races against the weather to find her and her friends before it’s too late.

This book was a really great story. High action, high suspense and I couldn’t put the book down. It started out a little slow and harder to get into the start of the book trying to get a handle on the characters being introduced and the background of everyone. There was also a lot of very specific and technical climbing words which made it a little hard to follow along or to understand what was trying to be described, but with that being said, the bigger story and the suspense kept my attention and I wanted to know what was going to happen.

Overall, I’m excited about this new series and can’t wait for the next book to be released!

I am always eager for the next Susan May Warren novel to come out and this one is another winner and since it's the start of a brand-new series, I know there are more on the way!
"The Way of The Brave" introduces us to three women who have set off to conquer a mountain, this year's extreme challenge and Jenny's way to deal with her past. However, Jenny doesn't know that it is not going to go as planned for she, Sasha and Aria and that they will need rescuing. Orion knows that he knows Jenny from his time overseas and when he runs into her and then realizes she is lost on the mountain, there is no way he cannot go to try and find her.
I love how Susan brings these characters to life, as every single one seems so real and are all struggling with things in their own lives, yet at the same time living their lives. The thrill of climbing and the adventures these characters seek will keep you turning pages all the way to the end as you wonder what will happen next and also what is going to happen in the characters' lives with their relationships and their own personal, emotional lives. I am looking forward to book #2 and more time with these characters!

In The Way of the Brave, former CIA profiler Jenny Calhoun plans an annual extreme adventure to deal with the guilt she carries – she was responsible for a botched CIA operation because she trusted her source, resulting in injuries and lost lives.

When her climb with friends on Denali turns dangerous, she is faces more than she expected, including a man she nearly killed in the botched operation, former pararescue jumper Orion Starr. Will they be able to put the past behind them to save their friends?

Susan May Warren is known for writing stories filled with action-adventure, memorable and often broken characters, and faith elements. As expected, there is some physical and spiritual challenges, and past wounds to be faced before embracing future possibilities.

The Way of the Brave is no different – it has spine-tingling suspense, hold-your-breath adventure, and realistic faith journeys. Readers will be engaged from the first chapter until the very end, and looking forward to the next book in this series, The Heart of a Hero, coming in June 2020.

If you are looking for an action-packed read, this is the book for you. I struggled a bit with the first part of the book because there was so much climbing-related terminology, but it’s obvious the author did a lot of research! I appreciated that the story was told from several perspectives, it kept the story moving.

I’ve read many of Susan May Warren’s books and enjoyed them. I was looking forward to reading this book. The storyline is fine and there’s plenty of action. I thought the characters had good comradeship. This book, however, somehow did not capture my attention. It could be that I didn’t get excited about them climbing a mountain. I never really connected with any of the characters. I truly wanted to reach out and shake a couple of them and say, “Get over it, already!” I’m not blaming the author. I think I’m not her target audience with this one. So I’ll wait for her next series and look forward to reading it.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Fantastic book of man v. Nature. A page turner. Filled with challenges and romance. The author is wonderful at creating characters you can't walk away from and she's definitely done it again with this novel. The hero and heroine are real and broken, but together they are better than they are apart. A fantastic read.

4 stars! This book had loads of excitement. Or maybe I should say “avalanches of excitement.” There was a lot of avalanches and mountain climbing and injuries. Almost too much to be believable, but still good. The characters for the next books are established nicely, and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
