Not sure what I expected from this book but it still disappointed me. I didn't connect with the characters, the slight mystery part was not that appealing, and I simply did not feel the romance. The tragic pasts are the only thing giving the book depth, in my opinion.

Overall: I didn't enjoy it. It was just okay.

Twenty-year-old Lacey Simon jumped from a building on fire to escape the cult her stepdad was leading, so college should be oh so easy. Except Lacey can’t seem to move on. Not only does she receive threatening letters, she’s also failing her classes. Fun times. Only Hunter, the firefighter who saved her from the fire and who’s been there for her ever since, reminds her that her stepdad no longer dictates her future. He tutors her in English, and he makes her laugh, blush and help her be more daring. But why does it feel like he’s only doing this to redeem himself from mistakes of his past? Twenty-one-year-old Hunter Harrington used to think he was invincible until a frat party turned tragic and he discovered a dead body in the pool. Ever since that day, he’s been doing his best to keep his grades up and help others. Yep, he even joined the volunteer firefighters’ college program. When he’s accused of plagiarism, he’s forced to spend more time with Lacey. Not that he minds. He’d love to get even closer. But he has secrets of his own that could destroy their relationship before it even starts. And can he really keep her safe?
This was a pretty good book. The story was well paced. The main characters were really well written and I enjoyed following them. I hadn’t read this author before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was not disappointed.

Trust Me, Trust Me Not by Elodie Nowodazkij is a complicated story about forgiveness and moving on.
I adored these characters & found the writing easy to read!
I highly recommend this book and the series.

Turmoil - a state of great disturbance, confusion, or uncertainty.

To say that Lacey's life is in great turmoil would be a pathetic understatement. She has been through unimaginable evil. She has lived through devastating events. She is a survivor. She does seem to understand that fact. She is a Survivor. She knows she made it out alive. She knows those that didn't. But she doesn't seem to understand SHE IS ALIVE.

Hunter is in a state of great disturbance and uncertainty. He has experienced some distressing things. He is in a bit of a situation currently. He also has trouble understanding his place in this world.

Two not broken, but bent people trudging through their lives. Both misunderstanding that they aren't LIVING.

Trust Me, Trust Me Not is probably my favorite of the series because its empowering. Lacey's story is ugly and yet she has never given up hope, and that, is absolutely beautiful. Hunter has found hope in a gorgeous woman who has shown him true strength. Now they just need to get out of their own ways...

Another awesome book by this author. I really enjoy these dives into darker topics without it being too much.

So this is the third book in this series and even though you can probably read it on its own, I whole heartedly encourage you to start from the beginning because my friends it is wonderful!!. I have to say that the second one I didn't love as much as her first book and now this one..But wow where does she get some of these stories..So we had previously met Lacey in the last story, this girl has suffered and got away from a crazy cult and she is starting over. Lacey meets Hunter and since they had suffered they are taking this slow, here Lacey thinks she is away from danger when things started happening again, luckily for her she has a hot firefighter but please grab and read you wont regret it..Enjoy!

Trust Me, Trust Me Not by Elodie Nowodazkij is the 3rd book in the Gavert City young adult series. Ms. Nowodazkij does it again! I normally read sweet young adult romances, but this book is a lot more complicated. Yes there is a sweet romance between 20 year old Lacey Simon and 21 year old Hunter Harrington. Lacey and Hunter met when she was escaping from a burning building and he was a volunteer fire fighter. I don't want to give to much away, but if you are looking for an interesting read, I highly recommend this book and the series. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. You don't have to read the books in order, each can be read as a stand alone, but reading them in order helps you understand these young people better.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.

I loved the premise of this book, but unfortunately it just wasn’t for me. I wish we saw more flashbacks and didn’t jump into the story so quickly. My favorite part of this book was Lacey’s anxious ramblings. I thought it perfectly showed a side of anxiety that doesn’t really get represented often. Instead of quietly falling into self, Lacey reveals every thought she has. It is quite refreshing. Overall great premise and writing just not what I was looking for at the moment. Perhaps I will try again some other day!

Such a dark book with a few hints of light. It was deep material that makes you want to steal the main characters out of the pages and keep them safe. Very well done but deep and a bit emotional.

This was my first book by this author. I think I would have liked it better if I had read the first two books in the series. There were a few moments when I got lost or confused about something or someone the book mentioned. It was still an enjoyable read for me.
Thanks to Xpresso Book Tours and NetGalley for the arc. I am voluntarily leaving a review.

While this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. Trust Me, Trust Me Not shares many of the same thematic elements with the other books in the series, especially the concept of overcoming self recrimination and guilt about the past. In this story, Lacey and Hunter come together as friends, after both having gone through intensely painful pasts. With Lacey escaping from a cult, and Hunter getting over the betrayal of his father and his self perceived failure to save a drowning victim at a frat party, they both have to find a way to put the past behind them and move forward. This was an intensely emotional story and I really enjoyed it.

I received an advanced copy for honest review from NetGalley and the publisher.

I enjoyed this read although it was a little mild for my liking. I usually like reads with more steam in them and this is a clean read, which usually is a little boring for me. That aside, the read kept my interest and I would recommend it.

Two people both with pasts that where there own form of hell. Lacey finally escaped from the cult her father ran by jumping out of a building on fire. Hunter was the firefighter that saved her but he also has trauma in his past in fact that is why he is a volunteer fire fighter. As there pasts close in on them and danger lurks they will have to rely on one another if they are to survive Elodie has a way of making her broken characters resonate with you she is a true artist at building up suspense and tension.

Wow! The third book in this series did not disappoint at all.
Lacey manages to escape death at the hands of her step father, and finds herself trying to have a life after living in the cult for so long. She is determined to go to college, make friends, and have a more normal life. But, things just don't always go her way. Someone is sending her messages insinuating that she murdered her best friend, following her around, and threatening to kill her.
Hunter, the firefighter that saved Lacey from the burning building, has a long list of trouble in his background that he is working hard to over come. Meeting Lacey and getting close to her is the best thing that has happened in a long time.
But, when Lacey's life is threatened can he be the man she needs him to be to save her, or will he have to live with her death?
Great book filled with mystery, action, romance, and learning to live with the path life takes you on.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

How do you get over years of manipulation and coercion? Years of being told how to live? In truth I cannot even imagine a life where you are not given freedom. Not just mentally but physically. This story touches on a factor that alot of people do not talk that much about. Although here they make the cult sound gruesome, I myself have seen cults that are of not that type. A cult does not always pertain that of a evil nature. Some just brain washes people to the point that they themselves do not know what they are doing in unnatural. This I say after seeing one of my own friends succumb to one like that. Outside they call themselves a religious group but in truth all of us can see that it is manipulative sector.

Forgetting that slight tirade I would like to talk about the book itself. The characters and the plot was written quite nicely and until I checked the reviews here, I did not know this falls under the YA category. Mainly maybe it was in a college setting and language was slightly more crude than that of a YA novel (then again I haven't read a YA novel in ages). The romance felt real and the torture the characters go due to their own choices made me even feel something from within. At times I was happy for them and at times I felt my heart weep for them.

Although this is a part of a series you can very well read this as a stand alone.Except for a really small part of the story you really don't feel like you are missing anything by not reading the rest of the books. If you're looking for a good YA novel with the aspects as those of NA novel while maintaining the censorship of YA then this is a pretty good book for you.
