Thanks NetGalley for this ARC, in exchange for an honest review. By the Devil’s Horns! This was a great read... The art alone is worth the buy! I enjoyed the story, and will absolutely recommend to my YA crowd, who doesn’t like a bit of maternally inspired sibling rivalry? A touch of magic. A dash of romance. A sprinkle of betrayal... I can’t wait to share this!

The Golden Age is an amazing comic, what else to say? It's a suffocating adventure about a princess that inherits the throne after her fathers dies only to be betrayed by her mother and little brother. She gets exiled and tries to find her way to first safety and then to the city of Ohman, where a magical treasure is located. The princess has visions about fights and loss, her body and mind weakening all the time. Such in intriguing setting and slow too and I cannot wait for the continuation! The atmosphere is hollow and dark all the time and even when hardly anything happens, this is still very exciting. The plot moves nicely and the structure is great, so Moriel and Pedrosa know their story.

The art is beautiful. Pedrosa's style is amazing with lively and powerful colors that suck you into the comic. The atmosphere has a sense of self as the colors bleeds us the truth. The Golden Age is an art piece, really. The story is told in pictures and colors, but they tell us sometimes different things - it's awesome. It's smooth and sad, full of hidden meanings and lost thoughts. The cliffhanger at the end surely is killing and I'm not so sure I can wait for the sequel!

An interesting story and premise. Lovely illustrations. As a history major, I found the parallels between the historical and the more fantastical compelling. Some parts did confuse me a little though. I wouldn’t have minded a little more explanation, but maybe it’ll come in the next volume. I’m looking forward to it. Thanks to NetGalley and First Second for the eARC.
