I am a total beginner quilter.
I love the idea of quilting but was always afraid I would never have enough time and my quilt would become "the endless project ".
The title of this book really caught my attention.
26 beautiful choices by 6 different artists. There is something for everyone.
The instructions are very clear.
As a super beginner, it took me more than a weekend to finish one project, but still it was quite fast.
I really enjoyed the book.

I wanted to write this post with proof of my use of it. I found the instructions in the book so straightforward that I wanted to deploy them, make an actual quilt, pose it appropriately and then take pictures. Then winter was coming to an end, and I convinced myself that I would work on it in the hotter months and then by the following winter, I could do all the aforementioned things.
This year proper summer seems to have completely skipped us by. We might have a few warmer days, but it is not enough for someone who was banking on a month or so of heat. This is not an excuse per se, but just a reflection. The bottom line was that I saw this book as an ARC then purchased my own copy because there is no other way to actually follow all the suggestions. I have waited long enough to review it (almost one year), so I decided it was high time I talked about it.
This is a simple book with a few quilting tips and ways to make quilts that can be accomplished in shorter periods. It is colourful, and the suggestions are sufficiently varied to make a beginner like me feel like I got a good deal in picking up ideas.
I would recommend it to anyone on the lookout for quilting books.
I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

With so many demands on our time, ideas for making a complete quilt over a single weekend are often welcome. Maybe there’s a baby shower coming, or you want to dress up a guest room before the in-laws visit … whatever the reason, this book offers some excellent projects for those short on time that will also appeal to quilters who are simply interested in new designs. There are six sections, each written by a different designer, with photos of finished quilts along with illustrations to guide you through steps. Anne Walker opens with an 18-page tutorial on quick quilting techniques for beginner quilters, from cutting shortcuts to instructions for binding. (Though trust me, new quilters will take way more than a weekend for any of these projects!)
Pauline Adams presents six designs based on Zigzags and Meanders; Gill Turley offers five options to celebrate Changing Seasons; Jenni Dobson draws on Asian inspiration for five Simple and Serene projects; Anne Walker returns to offer interpretations influenced by First Nations for five Pioneer Blankets; and Carol Dowsett wraps up with five Night and Day designs. There is a mix of traditional and modern, including a couple of art quilts, though for speed most of the piecing draws on larger blocks and rows. I really liked the Star Gazing and Decorative Stitches Sampler designs – the latter will be a great introduction to hand quilting that is likely to be finished, lol! Typical of weekend quilts, most are smaller – suitable as lap or crib quilts, or wall hangings. I would have liked to see instructions for full-size quilts, and more alternative color schemes – it helps me visualize options. My thanks to Landauer Publishing for the digital reading copy provided through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is a beautiful, inspiring book. Many of the projects look much more complex than they really are. I have already begun the Winter Wall project!

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for a digital ARC!

Disclaimer: I was provided a digital copy of this book by NetGallery in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This really is a lovely volume of quilts with clear instruction and great step by step photos. I loved some of the patterns and will probably purchase this for my own library.

There are many blocks that are unique and the instructions on some of the handstitching is terrific.

This book is good for beginning quilters who are interested in exploring the art of quilt making, as well as for advanced quilters looking for interesting patterns. The diagrams and text instructions are clear and concise. With additional information for general interest.

The Weekend Quilter is a great resource for the advanced beginner quilter. There are mostly smaller projects included (baby quilt, wall hanging, throw, twin bed size, etc) so each would take much less time than larger quilts, but a true beginner would find this challenging. This does have some great time saving techniques and a great deal of information on fabric choices and the history of quilting. For those that quilt occasionally, it would make a great idea book and satisfy those that do not have the time to complete the more challenging and time consuming projects. Thanks to Fox Chapel and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and give an hones review.

I received some very good tips about fabric selection in the book The Weekend Quilter. I was unfamiliar with the effect fabric with geometric designs has on the way one's eyes travel over the surface of a quilt, or the impact monochromatic prints have compared with solids in the overall look of a quilt. The author gave, what I am sure are very clear instructions regarding some quilting basics like creating a straight edge before cutting from a new piece of fabric;cutting strips, squares, triangles and rectangles; and hand quilting among other topics. For me the directions were difficult to visualize, but I typically need to watch someone perform tasks of this type rather than just hear words directing motions. (I have made 10 to 15 baby and lap quilts, and am not a total novice, but still had difficulty visualizing from these instructions.) The illustrations were not helpful to me, but would likely be so for most. I browsed through the twenty-six patterns included in this book, and saw two or three I might like to make. I did like that more than one color scheme was given for many of the quilt patterns.

I am grateful to Landauer Publishing for providing me with a copy of The Weekend Quilter in exchange for my honest opinion. I was under no obligation to provide a positive review and received no monetary compensation.

A great book for new and experienced quilters with many diagrams.
Personally I'd have preferred a few more photographs instead of the diagrams but all in all a very informative book

This is a fun book! Some of it was a little over my head because I’m really new into quilting so I know most of these would take me a lot longer to do than a weekend, but the ideas are great! I can’t wait to share some of these ideas with my quilting group at our local library!

The quilts in this book seem dated to me. While reading it, I imagined they were from the early 1990s. I used to quilt a lot and still love to look at quilting books and magazines. In most cases I find at least one project that I’d like to do if I ever had the time. This book offered me no such inspirations. After finishing the book, I looked at its copyright info and was not surprised it was a reprint. On the internet, I found it was originally published in the late 1990s. I would not purchase this for my personal collection or my library’s. There are much better quilting books out there and I wouldn’t waste my time on what appears to be a quick non-updated reprint.

Do you love making handmade quilts but don’t like how much time it takes, then this is one book you want to pick up. Patterns from traditional quilts to the more the more modern quilts grace the pages of this beautifully written book. There are step by step photos to help you along with great quilting tips for the novice and the seasoned quilter.

As an experienced quilter I gained new insight into not only new patterns, but tips and tricks to make quilting simpler. I loved the traditional patterns along with the watercolor quilts. I even learned how to stamp on a quilt which I am anxious to try. I can’t wait to make one of the quilts and I am sure it won’t be my last. I am so inspired after reading through the book. It’s definitely going into my treasure quilting book collection.

Thank you to Rosemary Wilkinson, Fox Chapel Publishing and NetGalley for a copy of the book to read and review, it was fabulous.

There are some beautiful quilts in this book and there is such a variety of inspirations for the designs, that I believe most people will find something for them. I love the concept of being able to create a wonderful quilt in just a weekend. I can't attest to the veracity of this claim, but I assume this will be tru for those with the necessary skill level. I am impressed and inspired to learn more.

Great book, beautifully presented and suitable for both beginners and advanced quilters. The patters are big and bold and can be made to look modern or traditional, there are different colour examples and the instructions are very easy to follow and well imaged.
I really like this book, it is honest and easy to follow.

The Weekend Quilter has patterns and instructions for 26 different quilts that could be completed in a weekend. (For me, that is probably overly optimistic.) They are all designed to be made using a rotary cutter and sewing machine, which will cut down on the amount of time each quilt will require.

The instructions are detailed, accompanied by illustrations and colorful photographs that indicate how to pin and sew each square or section. There are a wide variety of patterns, from more traditional to modern. I think novice to advance quilters will find this book to be a valuable resource as well as a source of inspiration for that next project. It’s a great addition to a quilter’s library.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

The Weekend Quilter includes information and illustrations for quilt sizes, fabric selection, cutting instructions, along with borders, basting, tying and binding.  As noted by the author, each quilt in the book is designed for rotary cutting and machine quilting. To aid beginner quilters, each of the 26 quilt patterns includes detailed instructions with illustrations and/or photos showing how to pin and sew each block or square - along with some color variations.  You will find instructions for some traditional patterns, as well as some more contemporary patterns - evens watercolor styles - all with easy to follow, detailed instructions.
