The story revolves around baseball player Gavin and his wife Thea, who has asked for a divorce. He tries to get her back with the help of his teammates and friends in a book club that reads historical romance.

So where do I start with this one? I loved the storyline and as someone who reads historical and contemporary romance I loved the idea that a group of men would read historical romance to save their relationships. I thought interspersing the excerpts of Gavin’s historical romance was done well and relevant to the plot line too.

I did think that this was slow to start and did drag in places. At the beginning I found Gavin and Thea quite annoying too. I did still enjoy this and thought it was a great way to escape for a few hours.

Even though I did enjoy this I’m not sure that this would be on my re-read pile, but I’ll certainly keep an eye out for Lyssa Kay Adams’ next novel- I think Baden Mack may have met his match!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Headline Eternal for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was exactly what I wanted it to be. It was heartwarming, cheesy, steamy and completely unrealistic and I LOVED IT.

The Bromance Book Club warmed every part of me, I adored the banter and the comradery, also the naivity of their ridiculous way of thinking.

Honestly, I cannot recommend this book enough - 5 STARS!!!

This was an interesting chick lit romance book because it was primarily from the male point of view.
The Bromance Book Club involves a group of macho men reading romance novels to help them become better boyfriends/men/husbands. This is all well and good but I often thought "why doesn't he know how to be a decent human and treat his wife well without reading it in a book?!".

The characters were decent, although I didn't connect with them half as well as many similar books. I mainly liked Thea, the wife of the main guy as she was multi layered and had depth to her. The dynamics with the group of men in the book club were good but I thought could have been built upon a little more and maybe more scenes of them discussing romance would have added to their discoveries etc.

Overall, it was well written, had some decent smutty scenes and a good storyline. It is a good easy read and I hope the series continues looking at the other men in the group.

This ebook was gifted to me by netgalley in return for an honest review.

It’s been a few days since I finished this book and I wanted to leave it a little while before writing the review because I got swept up in it and finished it in one day.

We begin when Gavin’s wife (Thea) has asked for a divorce and he hits rock bottom. He’s a baseball player and a couple of team mates take them under their wing and introduce him to the “Bromance Book Club”. Where me. Read romance novels to understand their women better and how to romance them. And so begins Gavin’s challenge to win back Thea’s heart...

This book was a fun, easy read that got smutty at times and I really enjoyed it! I liked the book being told from both Gavin and Thea’s perspective and enjoyed lots of the other characters - so much so, I will continue the series and I look forward to learning more about them in their own books.

This book was fun, well-written and I thought the storyline was so unique. The characters were hilarious and it tackled a tough subject really well.

Sadly it just wasn't for me - I DNFed at around 60% - but I gave it a good shot. It's nothing against the book as I totally understand why people love it. I've realised romance isn't for me, even when it's based around a marriage falling apart and I am personally going through a divorce! There just wasn't anything gripping me and I was having to force myself to pick it up.

This book was fantastic!

I have really lost my love for reading over the past few months & this book has been just what I needed to pull me out of my funk.

Fantastic characters & a storyline that I'm sure a lot of married couples can relate to. I seriously cannot wait for more in this series

Books, romance and hot sports guys what's not to like?!
I have to admit at the start I wasn't to sure about this book I loved the whole idea about a book club for men to help deal with relationship problems but to start with it wasn't really keeping me interested but about a quarter of the way through I found myself wanting to carry on to see what was going to happen next. Loved the witty banter between the men in the book club had some real LOL moments which I love in a book.
The story is focused on Gavin and Theas marriage issues after he finds out she's been faking it throughout their marriage. He turns to his sports buddies who introduce him to the book club they secretly hold where they read romance novels to help improve their sex lives and their relationships. Gavin is unsure if this is the way to win Thea back but goes along with it and they go through their fair share of stumbles along the way.
I love how sassy and strong Thea is. Glad I stuck this one out as I really did enjoy it and after half way couldn't put it down. Looking forward to the next one now

Thank you very much NetGalley for an advance copy of thia book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I chose this book purely because GabbyReads couldn't stop recommending it and I just wanted to know if the hype was real or not.

What a cute story!!

I have to say that it was a little bit difficult to focus my attention on the ebook edition because of the way it was written. The physical copy pages didn't match with the ebook ones and there was an annoying link in the middle of some of the pages that kept distracting me.

Other than that, this book was so perfectly cute!

I liked Gavin, the main character. I liked how he was aware of the mistakes he had made in the past and how determined he was to fix them. I liked how stubborn he was when it came to get his family back and how hard he tried.

I loved the Book Club. I liked all the people there and how they helped Gavin. They made me laugh with some of their scenes and made my heart melt with other of them.

I liked Thea. I get why she was they way she was. I understand her position, her decisions and her willing to protect her daughters.

I don't read romances very often but this one just put me in a good mood and I couldn't put it down. I read it in one day, I just couldn't get enough of the story.

I liked how Thea and Gavin worked through their problems and their marriage and how things ended up for them.

I loved the glance we got to their family dramas and how they solved things and got closure.

I really enjoyed this book and I highly highly recommend it!

Been wanting to read this book for almost a year and I can’t wait for some of my friends to read it so we can discuss it more.
The idea of a second chance to a marriage that happened maybe too early it’s one of my favourite plots to read and this book brought so many feelings while laughing at the antics pulled by the bromance book club members. It does look like a misunderstanding or miscommunication between the main characters and an issue that shouldn’t have to be an issue in the first place as the communication is the key to any relationship, marriage or not.
But it’s a bit more than that, it’s a time to discover what each one wants for their life as they are still young and with big responsibilities.
Sometimes the high expectations are part of the past and this story didn’t miss to tick that box either.
Probably my favourite part was the regency romance book and all the nicknames for Lord Tight Pants 🤣.
I’m so looking forward to the next book, part because I really hated Liv but love Mack and I’m curious how this one will turn up.

"That's why fiction resonates with people. It speaks to universal truths."

Although adult contemporary is not my usual genre, I couldn't deny the appeal of this book. And boy did it deliver. I've been in a reading slump for a while now and this was the perfect book to get me back into reading. The pacing was done very well, keeping me engaged throughout.

There were the humorous moments and then the heartwarming family moments, and then a social commentary on feminism and toxic masculinity. The characters were all flawed in the most realistic way. I especially loved how Gavin and Thea's marriage was presented as imperfect because getting married does not solve all your problems, and can often bury them. Another great point was that even though you may be sexually compatible with someone and be attracted to them, that doesn't necessarily mean sex always works out the way you want it to, since it is usually portrayed as always mind-blowing in books.

I don't really have much to critique about this novel; it was a fun, heartfelt, quick read. Perhaps the only thing I wanted more of was the actual book club sessions. Maybe the next book!

This was such a fun concept, from the blurb to the excellent book cover. I read THE BROMANCE BOOK CLUB after reading a very heavy book and it was just the light kind of fun I needed. This is a perfect weekend or beach read but it also feels like a fresh concept.

I love to read a book about married couples and these two, Gavin and Thea had a marriage on the rocks and in deep trouble. It was the kind of marriage suffering from neglect and lacking in honesty. However, I could see from the start that there was much to salvage and I enjoyed their journey.

This is a romantic comedy at times with periods of seriousness. The guy friends in Gavin’s life enlisted the help of some regency books to teach Gavin how to woo and satisfy his wife. Everything about this aspect was hilarious and I adored how there was a second mini story within this book in the form of the regency novel he was reading.

"He pulled ‘His Pissed-off Countess’ or whatever it was called from the drawer. Del took it from him and held it aloft like a preacher about to drop some gospel."

Gavin learning to change his behaviour was central to this story and he was kind of dumb but also humble and willing to change. I grew to like him and to root for their marriage. I was glad to see some wake-up in Thea too.

“It absolutely is true. A woman remembers every time a man winks at her, because we love winking. It’s like catnip. Wink at us, and we roll over and start purring. You haven’t winked at me in a long time.”
“Then I’m an idiot.” Gavin slowly lowered his gaze to lips. “Because I wouldn’t mind hearing you purr.”

There was a strong sense of family in this book with twins in the middle of this marriage. There were some incredibly sweet moments between the four of them that just made me warm and cosy.

I’m really looking forward to reading more from this series and this author, she reeled me in with this fun story.

This book was brilliant!!
I was worried the book would be cliche and over the top but it definitely wasn't.
I honestly can't fault this, the writing, the characters, the smut were all delightful.

I can't wait for the sequel and will 100% be checking out Lyssa Kay Adams works in future.
Highly recommend to everyone!

5/5 Stars

This is was a quick read, perfect for the winter holidays as it is set in December. I loved the premise of this - a husband trying to fix his marriage (with the help of his friends) by reading romance books to understand his wife and her needs better. The story is fast-paced and there are a lot of good ideas. The characters were a little flat and cardboardy but I could imagine this would work well as a film. I would like to thank NetGalley for sending me an ARC of this book.

Light and fluffy romances are pretty common, but ones that contain useful gems of wisdom about female sexuality coming from the everyday Alpha male is where the strength of The Bromance Book Club lies.

Set in Nashville, baseball player Gavin and his wife Thea are set to divorce because he left the home after discovering that she’s been going through the motions of their marriage, both physically and emotionally. However, they quite clearly love each other quite deeply and need to rebuild their communication. Cue Gavin turning to his colleagues and friends for support who reveal that they’re part of a clandestine book club where they read romance novels to repair their marriages and understand their wives.
The Bromance Book Club is a second-chance romance with some hilarious as well as tender moments and it’s a timely novel as it smashes stereotypes around toxic masculinity with brilliant comic timing and some words of wisdom to take home.

“We think we’re not supposed to feel things and cry and express ourselves. We expect women to do all the emotional labor in a relationship and then act confused when they give up on us.”

“If masses of women like something, our society automatically begins to mock them. Just like romance novels.”

Light and likeable, I whizzed through this in a matter of a few days – it’s an easy read and naturally steamy yet there’s a lot of earnestness in Gavin that makes him an endearing character; he’s clearly hurt by the revelation from his wife and the support he receives from his friends enables him to dig deeper to resolve his issues with Thea as well as encouraging her to eventually reconcile with her past. The progression of Thea and Gavin’s relationship is well-written with an air of authenticity – none of it is forced and the addition of children and a high-pressured baseball career in the mix adds more depth to the impact on their marriage.

Ultimately, their ability to go beyond the physical nature of faking their marriage to what has been brewing beneath the surface for the past 3 years is what helps them eventually come together again. Lyssa Kay Adams constructs a marriage that was borne out of love but never had the chance to fully blossom and this second chance at it is a catalyst for strengthening that love. Essentially, that in order for a relationship to move forward, the people involved have to look back and make peace with themselves and with others.

I can’t finish this review without giving credit to the idea and nature of the ‘bromance book club’ – a group of men that form this group are bound together in friendship to support and strengthen each other’s relationships. While I personally found it slightly cringe-worthy that they refer to Mills and Boon style romance chick lit in their mission, it’s also a foundation of brotherhood that’s sorely missing in our reality and would be very welcome by scores of women.

This is not just a feminist romance novel, but the pinnacle of male and female dynamics in relation to respect, sexual consent and marital bonds. It’s a fresh and new take on romance and I believe it to be THE romance novel to represent our values in 2020.

Oh no. I might be the only person who didn’t like this book.
The first thing I want to say is... if you lie to your husband for years the you’re in the wrong. If I was faking my orgasms I’d expect my husband to be mad, not to take the blame - how can he improve if I don’t tell him?! This book felt like it was blaming the man for EVERYTHING.

Wife: you should leave
Man: ok I’ll leave
Wife: how could you leave?!

WTF. It’s supposed to be modern, modern man reading romance books to help him become more in tune with what ladies wants. But maybe if his wife hadn’t lied to him day in and day out for years and had been open and honest then perhaps he would have to be reading books that then paint a typical picture of a woman wanting to be romanced and ravaged.

Seriously. This book. No clue what it was going for, other than making me annoyed at ALL THE CHARACTERS.

Its a pretty light read but still very enjoyable, i would recommend to any fan of the genre!

The Bromance Book Club is a brilliant reminder about how relationships, no matter how calm they seem on the surface, are actually a lot of work from all parties involved.
⚾️
Exploring how stereotypical maleness can affect a relationship but eventually showing that it takes communication and understanding from all sides to really have a result.
I loved how the bros drew influence from Regency novels - it’s interesting how, despite the social atmosphere completely changing and the gender equality balance becoming a lot more equalised, true relationships are still balanced around a similar set of values. Possibly. I’m single so not sure?
Would recommend to anyone who loves a good healthy read with a small giggle factor

An original read, I have not read anything like that before!
Gavin and Thea are married and have two perfect daughters, but their life is not necessarily perfect. They come across some difficulties, but what seem like marital issues, turns out to have a deeper meaning they can only resolve by looking deep inside themselves.
I really liked the humour and the writing style of this book. If you’re after a light read, with more depth than your average romance, look no further. Perfectly entertaining and heartwarming, especially around festive season!

The Bromance Book club is the perfect second chances book I’ve read in a while. I love books that don’t downplay relationships are difficult, even when you think you have your happy ending because you’re married with kids, well it’s never too late to figure out “love is enough” to fix past heartbreaks and hurts. This book had the perfect blend of funny, wacky moments courtesy of the bromance book club and also sexy and angsty moments that made me feel so much for Thea and Gavin. I’m so looking forward to the next one.
