What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

I am a fan of Kylie Brants writing and have been for years. She has moved from her category romance roots to expanding her writing into longer books with excellent twisty suspense plots that keeps this reader on her toes!

This is the 2nd book in her Deputy US Marshall Cady Maddix series and is as good as the 1st, Cold Dark Places. Cady Maddix is a great heroine that you can root for, very capable but with a flawed past. In this book Ms Brant has deepened the characterisation of Cody and Ryder, one of the great things about a connected series. It was trademark Ms Brant with the plot - doesnt matter how much I read her she is always one step ahead! Lol! Although this is the 2nd in the series it can be read as a standalone, although for the enjoyment factor I would recommend reading Cold Dark Places first!

I really enjoyed this 2nd US Marshall Cady Maddix book. In this one, Cady is working on a case that involved a boy who has been hiding from a killer for several years. She is determined to track down this ruthless killer.

I loved the main character, Cady Maddix, just as much in this book as in the first one. The storyline was a good one, interesting, and completely keeping my attention throughout the book. The story was fast-paced and filled with plenty of action,

I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes next for Cady!

US Marshall Cady Maddix is assigned the case of finding Bruce Forrester before he finds Dylan Castle and his family. And she does this while still battling her own inner demons ,the medical problems of her mother and a new relationship. Another fast paced, suspenseful mystery with great characters. Can’t wait for the next book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review.

Down The Darkest Road is book 2 in the Cady Maddix series. I liked both book 1 and 2. Hopefully there will be a number 3. Federal Marshall Cady Maddix has her own past to overcome as well as killers to catch. Her story continues throughout the series.
Thank you to netgalley, the author and publisher for the arc. (le

There is much action and suspense in this second installment of the Cady Maddix series. Cady has some scars but she is one tough cookie. I love the author’s fast paced writing style and the character definition.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Kylie Brant does chilling suspense like no other author. This second in the Cady Maddix series had me from the first sentence and kept me enthralled until the final period. This series is one of my favorites.

I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Cold Dark Places’ last year which was the first in the series following Us Marshall Cady Maddox and her dog Hero, This time it’s a young boy on the run from a serial killer and full of twists and turns. It’s a combo thriller/police procedural with a flawed female lead - my favorite style of novel! Again, Brant delivers a action packed book with more background story of a Cody that makes you respect her even more. Hurry up Book Three,

This was one of the best books that I've read in a good while! I fell in love with the main character Cady Maddix!

Overall the story was captivating and kept me glued to the edge of my seat throughout the entire story! I felt like I was invested in the characters and the outcome of the story!

I also can't wait for book #3 to see what happens in Cady's life next and what choices she makes!

Overall, excellent read with great narration!

**I would like to thank Netgalley for providing this book to me in return for an honest and unbiased review!!

Wow! Brilliant read full of action and a twist or 2 at the end! A well rounded story with strong and well developed characters.

Five years before Dylan Castle and his friend slipped out to go to the river. Only Dylan lived to tell the tale of what happened but his memory is sketchy.
Deputy US Marshal Cady Maddox is assigned to the case. The person suspected of killing Trevor , Bruce Forrester, is still on the run and has kidnapped a young woman. Will she be able to stop him?

This was the 1st book I've read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely read more in the future.

Thank you to #netgalley and thomas&Mercer for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

Even though i never read the first book (Cold Dark Places), it made no difference in my enjoyment of 'Down the Darkest Road'. I do hope to read the first book sooner or later, but have also noticed several other books written by Kylie Brant that i would be interested in reading. This book had a great story line, with plenty of suspense and loved the twists towards to the end. Recommended.

My thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for my copy. This is my honest review, which i have voluntarily given.

(Waiting for my review to be published by Amazon).

I really enjoyed this second book from Kylie Brant. I don't think you need to read the first to enjoy it, but it will help with a few of the characters and relationships.

An quick paced suspense story, with a little romance, and family drama to round it out. The characters are down to earth and some a bit twisted (I'll let you figure out which is which).

What is good about this book is that although it is the second book in a series you do not feel completely lost having not read the first. Overall the story and he lead characters are thought out, and while some of the procedural stuff felt clunky, overall Cady Maddix is a marshal you're going to want to follow in upcoming books in the series.

I enjoyed this mystery but was not wowed by it. I felt It being the second in the series didn't make a difference. The characters were well written and felt completed. Thank you NetGalley, Author and the publisher for the eArc in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed my first meeting with Cady Maddix last year, so of course I couldn't resist adding the sequel to my list as soon as I saw it was available on Netgalley. I've been looking forward to meeting up with her again, and I can now say that Down The Darkest Road is definitely a solid sequel and a very entertaining and thrilling ride. While I do think I enjoyed the first book a tiny bit more, there is no doubt that this sequel is a superfast thriller with a lot of action and suspense to keep you on edge.

Technically you could read Down The Darkest Road as a standalone, but as you would be missing background information on the main characters I wouldn't recommend doing so. Without this information, you won't be able to appreciate the complexity of Cady Maddix's character fully... Because she is definitely one of the reasons why this thriller is so successful. With a traumatizing past that has marked her and haunts her to this date, her loyal dog Hero and her determination and fierceness while doing her job, Cady Maddix makes for a very intriguing deputy US marshal to follow. The main characters in general are easy to connect to despite their flaws, making them only feel more realistic in the process.

The plot itself is complex and filled to the brim with action scenes, suspense and a bulk load of plot twists and secrets. It has a very high entertainment level while also having quite a few shocking surprises for you in store... I do have to say that I'm not sure about the credibility of certain aspects of the plot and certain details did become a bit to fantastical, but there is no denying that Down The Darkest Road is a lighting fast and thrilling ride. The new case Cady Maddix becomes involved in definitely ticks a lot of killer thriller boxes. Bruce Forrester is the perfect villian for this story and it was fascinating to learn more about his character, his crimes and how he is able to escape justice for so long along the way. Dylan's story was interesting as well; the witness turned victim as he has been moving around hiding and running from Bruce during the last five years... It shows just how little authorities can do to protect witnesses and what it is like to live in fear for so long. This aspect of the story was without doubt well developed.

In short, while I had some minor issues with the credibility of certain aspects of the plot, there is no doubt that I had a great time reading this sequel and I'm definitely looking forward to see how Cady Maddix's character will develop in the future. If you like your thrillers suspenseful, dark and lightning fast, this series is an excellent choice!

A marshal pursues a killer as well as her demons…

This is the second book in the Cady Maddix Mystery series that can be read as a stand-alone.

The attention of this reader of mystery/suspense novels was captured by what unfolded within the pages of this book: a family on the run, a revenge-driven killer of recent women playing a long game, and the law enforcement officer assigned the hunt was haunted by a traumatic incident when a young child. As we are the culmination of our experiences to date, the circumstances that define us determine how a person handles what is thrown at them and this heroine is battling more than the man she tracks.

In the teenage witness/victim Dylan Hunt, Deputy US Marshal Cady Maddix recognizes a kindred spirit, she’s personally familiar with childhood trauma and its aftereffects for her own such experience altered her life in non-advantageous ways and she has yet to deal with its repercussions, the scars ever-present though unseen. This case and her return to North Carolina to spend time with her ailing mother bring back memories that the mind in its desperate need to protect had repressed. A Pandora’s box is about to be opened, an unprovoked utterance will set Cady on a path to uncover the truth about her past that not just her mind had hidden and that she might not be ready to face. She’s not as alone as she believes, Sheriff Ryder Talbot, her sometimes lover is unobtrusively supportive, he sees the woman inside and her commitment issues don’t deter him. This experience will afford Cady much needed growth and closure.

This was my first time reading this author and I was not disappointed with an intriguing case that had numerous twists and a heroine fighting her own demons as she hunts down a smart cold-hearted killer who has eluded the authorities for much too long. Though you know who the killer is early on it doesn’t detract from the detailed investigative aspects of the marshal’s job or the active and suspenseful chase. There were multiple points of view, occasional flashbacks, and good character development, some are harboring secrets that seek the light of day. Some truths are hard to swallow but necessary to face and heal from. The heroine is not as detached as she’d like to be on this case, her sympathy for Dylan and her dog show a deep compassionate side. Beware the twists you won’t see coming.

An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is well written with interesting characters but it just didn't have the "umph" I feel with an outstanding book. I'm sure there are others who will greatly enjoy it. 📚

I thought Cold Dark Places by Kylie Brant was amazing, but this, this was phenomenal. I was still left with some unanswered questions at the end of the book, but overall, I loved it! I would recommend this to everyone! You don’t necessarily have to read the first one in order to read this, which I really liked. This book kept you guessing constantly what was going to happen next or who did what and it made me crazy! In a good way, of course! I could not put this book down. It was so great and I loved it.
The book did, however, switch back and forth between characters, but it was still easy for me to follow along and it certainly helped me in understanding the story and why some characters did certain things. I cannot wait to read more of Kylie Brant’s work because the last two books of hers definitely did not disappoint.

This is a police procedural AND a psychological thriller. Great plot and story, and even better characters. Excellent, very well written book.
