I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. This title was under fantasy when i downloaded it from Netgallery. I havent really read these kind of books before. I thought id give it a chance. I personally did not like the characters. I tried to read as much as i could to give it a chance. I just really did not like it. This by no means a reflection of the authors writing. it just wasnt for me. I am sorry that i cant rate it higher. best wishes to the author.

3.5-4 stars

This was a fun little adventure that felt kind of like Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys meets Rick Riordan. I believe it's the third book in the series, but there's enough asides and back explanation that it's okay if you haven't read the first two (I haven't). This is fairly well written and edited and the story held my attention throughout. The mythology aspects felt somewhat superficial, but I think it worked fine for a middle school book and I enjoyed getting to know some of the characters. The point of view shifted between the medium, Mr. Monsento, and Abby, one of the three kids running the detective agency. I always had to pause a bit to make sure I knew who was narrating and I think it would have been helpful to have some sort of indication of whose story it was going to be, but overall, it wasn't too bad. I rounded up because I enjoyed the ending and it makes me want to read more stories from this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. It wasn’t my usual genre however it was definitely worth the read. I feel the characters and story was excellently developed. Definitely worth a read.

A good easy read about a medium and three teenagers who run a detective agency for ghosts. Although this book stands alone, I think it would have been better for me to have read the other books in the series as the characters are already all settled and we don’t get any background other than very briefly.

However this didn’t ruin the book for me as it does stand alone, and it was a good easy fun read.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This will be available to purchase on November 11th.

What first drew me to this book was the old-school kids’ detective agency idea. I loved that sort of story when I was young, and this seemed a fresh take on an old favorite. There was a Scooby-Doo vibe, except that the ghosties happen to be actual ghosts.

This is the third installment in the Fantastic Phantasmic Detective Agency series, but it was easy to understand what was happening, thanks to explanations given throughout the book. The explanations didn’t necessarily fit into the storyline nicely; rather, they just sort of popped up. However, it was good to have them. I don’t think they are long enough to bore repeat readers, which is also a plus.

The premise of this particular mystery is the search for a missing ghost. He’s no longer haunting the house he normally appears at, and his recently deceased sister is concerned about him. I laughed pretty hard at that idea.

The detective agency consists of three kids (Abby, Billy, and Toby), and a cranky old medium. They follow clues of an unusual kind to attempt to find the missing ghost. I don’t want to give too many details away, since half the fun of a mystery is following the twists and turns.

This book is a lot of fun. It’s a new take on the usual trope and I quite enjoyed it. If you’re looking for a quick, entertaining read, this is a good one to check out. I’ll know I’ll be going back and reading the first two in this series.

A wonderfully fun read for everyone! Aimed primarily at middle-grade readers, this is a great adventure for anyone who enjoys tales of ghosts and the spirit world. Abby, Toby, and Billy run their own detective agency with the help of their adult Medium Arthur Monsento (who is always grumpy!). This is not just any detective agency - this is a detective agency for ghosts. The adventure is well constructed as the children and Arthur navigate their own world and the UnderWorld, including the bureaucracy and politics that go with the spirit realm! The children are all well constructed and genuine. The point of view is split between Abby and Monsento, which makes for interesting reading, especially when they are pursuing different leads. Occasionally, it is difficult to tell at the beginning of a chapter who is telling the story, so be prepared to point younger readers in the right direction if they need a quick helping hand. One of the wonderful things about this book is that it is part of a series, so if you have not read (or bought for someone else) the other books, I would definitely suggest starting at the beginning to see the founding of the detective agency and their early adventures. The character development and their relationship change and expand with each story, so dive in!
