The Republic is the first book in The Republic series by Jon Jacobs. It is the story of the Sarantakos family. In a time when all of America’s social ills have been “cured” and all are free. Unfortunately, it is all a façade. Paul and Rose Sarantakos are wealthy entrepreneurs when they are captured, drugged, and forced to sign over their fortune to the Social Order Administration as the government is in desperate need for revenue. Their son, Rand, is a scientific genius with degrees in physics, math, and electronics engineering. He soon becomes an enemy of the state as his discoveries terrify the SOA and threaten to expose the truth. The government soon sets out to eliminate Rand and his research and the family finds themselves on the run for their lives.
The Republic is a dystopian cautionary tale as what happens when the government takes too much control. The story was a bit hard to read as it had so many chapters as well as the subject matter hits close to home as our country seems to be heading in this country and many fighting to keep it from happening. Despite the dystopian theme and the risk to their lives, the main characters still acted and spoke as if life should go on as normal. For example, as their lives are being torn apart, Paul urges his son to attend school as planned. A government university? The same government just coerced you to hand over all of your wealth?! It didn’t fit with the rest of the story. However, if you enjoy dystopian political thrillers, I highly recommend The Republic.

Very disappointing. The book is full of right-wing cliches. I wish I had never read it, but even for a dystopian novel, it's very bad.

The Republic written by Jon Q. Jacobs is a dystopian novel set in the future. It is a frightening future. While it is not necessarily my type of book, I can easily see fans of this genre enjoying this book immensely.

The Republic is a dystopian novel set in a future United States that has been overtaken by Socialism. Citizens are subject to mind control and other experiments, and rulers seize whatever they want for the "good of the social order." Rand and his father are running from the Social Order when the book opens and eventually set up their own Republic and try to take on this government.

This is a cautionary tale of what can happen when you let a government take too much control. This is a long novel and possibly could have been turned into two books.

I received a free copy of this book from the publishers via Netgalley. My review is voluntary.

I DNF this book. I just could not seem to get into it. In my opinion it was a bit boring and uninteresting. Not my style. Still would recommend it for anyone who is into books like this.

Paul Sarantakos and his wife Rosa have created their own Republic on an isolated island, as they are hiding from the Social Administration Order, who kidnapped and drugged them. Their son Rand, a scientific genius, uses his talents to help them stop the evil ways of the Social Administration Order.

This dystopian book has a very interesting take on this subject and kept me interested. However, I feel that there was not enough detail to really understand the hows and whys of how they got to this point.

I also like the Christian theme running through this story.

I recommend this book to all dystopian lovers, and I look forward to reading the other books in this series..

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, but was pleasantly surprised. Set in the future so it gives you plenty to think about with twists and turns. I highly recommend this book.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't get interested in this book. The idea was appealing, but I just couldn't get past the first few chapters.

THE REPUBLIC is a science-fiction book that deals with an authoritrian society in the ner future that has taken over the US. This dictatorship seems to censor all religious beliefs except for the state-sanctioned religion that worships a Mother Goddess, and the action is centered around one family that are possibily conservative Christians who do not follow all of the party lines. The story is very dialog-heavy and is centered around freeing family members who have been imprisoned for thier beliefs. As such, the story is very hard to follow at times, and it becomes difficult to invest in any of the characters emotionally. Not a very enjoyable read.

I received this advanced readers copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I am one of those people who, whether I love or hate it, always finishes a book. While I love the concept of The Republic, I was unable to finish it.

From what I did manage to read, there were three main characters: Paul, his wife Rosa, and their son Rand. Paul's parents are assassinated, As their airplane is getting ready to land, it blows up. Paul and Rosa are at odds with the government. They are detained and Rosa is given a combination of drugs that paralyzes her. They find a doctor who can help her, although the help is only temporary and she slowly loses the ability to control her body or to speak.

The book goes on with Paul, Rosa, Rand and other minor characters trying to take on this government.
What made it so difficult for me to finish the book? The flow. When I am reading, the book has to have a smooth flow. Otherwise, I lose my concentration and have to read and reread. I just couldn't get into the book.

I don't normally read any type of political books, fiction or non-fiction. This book kept me reading and barely able to put it down. I found the idea of the future technological advances fascinating and frightening while the possibility of freedom was lost, and an America transformed into a social order that would shake any foundation to their core. It made it seem like this could happen and that is a scary thought, especially with the way our current situations in America are changing. One young man holds the future of the world in his hands! The world has turned to socialism and communism to solve hunger, conservation, and medical issues! I would definitely recommend this book!!

This was quite a frightening story to read. It is set in the future in America when personal freedom is lost and the Government has set a new social order. Currently, the chaos America is experiencing, makes one think what could happen in the future, unless a change is made.

Excellent book! I was hooked from the beginning. It's scary how the author spins a tale of where America is heading given the path we are on. I could definitely get caught up in any world this author writes. The characters were real and believable. I really felt like I got to know them personally. I look forward to the next book.

What a plausible concept for our worlds’ situation in the future! One young man holds the future of the world in his hands! The world has turned to socialism and communism to solve hunger, conservation, and medical issues!
The United States has two parties but one agenda, the rich can use anti-aging technology and harvest poor peoples’ organs, capitalism is outlawed, slavery is tolerated but hidden, and school is compulsory until the 2nd grade.
How can these issues be fought? ....
