I found this book to be unexciting and rather slow. The description sounded like it would be a good suspenseful book but there was none. Any of the parts that should have been full of excitement came across as flat. Eleanor was alone and running for her life in the woods yet very little of the book centred on her. Those parts that did left me wanting more description. The police officers had difficult lives yet I couldn’t find any sympathy for them. The plot of the book was great but the characters seemed flat and overall I just didn’t care what happened to them. With some more description and spark this could be a great book.

Detective Iris Locke is tasked with solving the murder of well liked, twenty year old nurse, Rachel McDermott. Murder is almost unheard of in this small Irish town, but fingers are already pointing at Eleanor Marshall, a runaway teen addict. Rachel had befriended Eleanor and the teen was seen fleeing the area where Rachel’s body was found. Karena, Eleanor’s sister insists that while Eleanor is troubled, she would never harm anyone. But the next day, Karena is also found dead. Eleanor is the obvious suspect, but something in the girl’s past has Iris looking in another place.

Why She Ran sees the welcome return of Detectives Iris Locke and Ben Slattery as a gruesome murder and a missing young girl set the Corbally murder team off once again in search of the perpetrator before more people are harmed or even murdered.

This is a gritty and gripping read from the first page to the very last, is brilliantly plotted, action packed and has a great mix of diverse and realistic characters.

I love the two main protagonists and especially Loved that we saw more of Ben's private life and the issues he was also dealing with on a daily basis.

Another fabulous novel, the second in this already brilliant series and I certainly look forward to more in future.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for my ARC for an honest review.

Wow oh wow! Geraldine Hogan is absolutely amazing! I have not been able to put this down! This has gripped me from the very beginning and this is a book I have devoured in just two sittings.
I always like to revisit characters which have been introduced in previous books. More so, when they have been likeable characters. This delicious second instalment has not disappointed.
Iris and Slattery are such a fab pair and Hogan has not disappointed with a nice gruesome crime early on in this book. She sucked me in instantly and I found myself suspicious of characters.
One quality I adore about Iris is that she needs the full picture. This often leading her to suspicions that haven’t even crossed my mind. Hogan never fails to make me curious about what will happen next.
This is another fantastic and well written book which has been extremely thought out. I was hooked from the very beginning and would go as far as saying that these books would make a fantastic series.
I cannot wait for the next instalment of this series. This is an easy book to rate, a huge five shiny stars- although this deserves so many more. This has cemented my love of the series, I can’t wait to read more by Geraldine Hogan.

We are in Ireland and the scene of the crime is a high end recovery centre (think The Priory) for young women with issues. The victim is Rachel, who has been killed with a blunt instrument blow to the head and a violent attack. She is one of the care workers who was on a night shift in one of the bungalows. The only other person in that bungalow , Eleanor, is now missing and she is the daughter of a wealthy, influential landowner. Has one killed the other and ran off or is there more to it? DS Iris Locke has been put in charge of the case and things really aren’t adding up. DS Slattery has his own issues. His wife of over 30 years is in the early stages of dementia and is starting to wander. It was never a solid marriage and got worse when they lost their daughter. Iris has her own demons and a murder case tends to bring these to the forefront.
I enjoyed this as it has a different premise from most crime reads. There isn’t a plethora of suspects or even a lean towards a few, and even the one possible is looking less and less likely as time goes on.; This is one of a series but will happily stand alone (I haven’t read the previous one- Her Sisters Bones and it worked for me). A highly enjoyable captivating read.

This is a super suspenseful thriller that does not give the reader what they expect!

A rich girl with epilepsy, a care worker, a rough caretaker and more are just a few of the characters that you will encounter in this read. Det. Iris Locke and her partner for the time, Det. Nate Slattery, are fighting their own demons while trying to solve a murder.

A quick, suspenseful read for all!

Many Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a truly great read.

This book was just okay for me. I was really intrigued by the description of the storyline, but the writing just wasn't my cup of tea.

2nd book I've read in the corbally series and it is utterly impossible to put down.
Totally captivating from beginning to end
The plot was so well executed and once again great strong characters
I did near the end think I know who it was and I was right but nothing has been left to chance in this utterly Fantastically entertaining book.
