I ended up skimming from around 30 pages or so.
it was just not funny, the jokes alone were eyerollworthy and i were just bored.
Emmie was uinteresting to say at least.

Loved this book. It packs a bigger punch than what you see coming. It was heartfelt and amazing. Definitely one to add to your to be read list.

I loved the writing and the southern-ness of the book. The story was sweet and nice but I just didn’t feel myself terribly invested in the characters. Definitely check it out if your looking for something fun and light though.

After ‘The Event’ which leads to a bout of tequila amnesia and a pregnancy, Emmeline returns home to Missouri. Where she is welcomed back to the family fold starts work in her family’s business.

However, being a single mother with idea who the father is will not go down well with the gossipy country club women. So Emme’s Mum and Aunt concoct a very tall tale about a fake fiancé.

Now Emme has to go along with this secret. Even when she runs into a boy she went to school with, Zach, who has secrets of his own.

This was a charming novel. I can’t wait to read the others in the series.

The event was such a fun and sexy read. I liked the parts where the characters got together. I also liked when they didn’t. It was fun.

When Emmeline Frothingham has a horrible experience know as The Event take place at a work function she is forced to leave her job and life behind in New York and head back to her small everyone knows your busy town. Craziness ensues, secret are discovered and the truth changes everything for Emmeline and the people closest to her.

Although this story has it's romcom cute elements and characters it was a but predictable. Fast read and light I will be checking out the rest of the books in this series to see how everyone turns out in the end.

I really enjoyed this heartwarming small-town romance and the characters. It reminded me a lot of the Gilmore Girls.

I love everything I’ve read by Whitney Dineen! Her characters are exactly that: CHARACTERS brimming with eccentricities, love of family, and the temper and backbone to stand up to narrow-minded people quick to judge and spread gossip. The story’s character interplay and down-home expressions make me laugh. Threads of “maybe” romance blossom through the story and deliver a sigh-worthy HEA. This is another great one, Ms. Dineen!

The event is a sweet, heartwarming story that kept meengaged. It's witty and smart and had me laughing at how life surely does try to buck you off.
It's fun to read and I'll recommend it to anyone loving a typical rom-com.

The Event was such a refreshing read!!!! I loved all the characters; however, I started getting a little annoyed with Emmie’s family being involved in EVERYTHING....but as the story progressed, it was evident that with it being a small town, that’s how it worked.

I just adored Zach!!! I had a little “feeling” of what truths were going to be revealed; which honestly, that was fine because the story was so great!

I giggled so many times too!!!

After a devastating business event, followed by a night of mind-numbing drinking, Emmie wakes up in a strangers apartment still slightly drunk and stumbles out to make her way home. With almost no memory of that night & finding out she is pregnant, she moves forward as best she can. When she is outsourced from her job, Emmie heads back to her small hometown for a fresh start to find that her family has fabricated a story to cover up any possible gossip. While she was living in NY, both Emmie and her hometown grew up and evolved. Once back home Emmie gets reacquainted with the town and its residents. After a trip back to NY for business, Emmy discovers she has come full circle. A bit of a fantastical finish but, still a good book, full of LOL humor and an enjoyable read.

From the opening page I was pulled into Emmie's story, her character is instantly relatable.
Filled with humor and southern charm, this story is one I thoroughly enjoyed. I liked the writing style, the pacing, the dialogue and the storyline. Be prepared for laughter, tears and a few surprises.
Although Whitney Dineen is a new-to-me author, I will definitely be trying more of her books.

This was a very cute start to the Creek Water Series. I liked the main character Emmie. She's feisty, funny, smart and determined. The author gives us both the good and bad sides of living in a small town. While there can be lots of support and togetherness, there can also be some gossip and backstabbing. Ms. Dineen gives the reader all of this with humor and romance.

While the story ending is a bit predictable, there is still an element of surprise. I did find this to be a nice change from some of the more serious books I tend to read. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

The Event by Whitney Dineen is an absolutely charming and humorous book set in the south and bursting with southern eccentricity and quirkiness..

Having read other books from this author I new what to expect but this is by far the best of her books that I have read.

Emmeline Frothingham is a small town southern girl, which she left as fast as she could planning to never return for good. She is a member of the most prominent family in the town and its residents think that she got everything on a silver platter. Resolved to show them how wrong they are she moves to New York to start a career.
After making a name of herself in her chosen field she is expecting a very prestigious award from her company when it is snatched away from her. Under the shock she attacks her colleague and then continues to douse herself with tequila which she knows very well is not good for her.
She even has a one night stand with the man she has never met and soon after realizes that she is pregnant.
Deciding to keep her baby she resolves to go back home where she has her family support and a new job.
But life has more surprises for Emmeline, one of which she never expected, not even in her wildest dreams.

Thoroughly charming and incredibly funny book.
I loved the easy banter and love among her family. I liked how crazy and meddling and how supportive they are.
The characters are lovable and realistic yet easily relatable. There are many twists to keep the book interesting.
All in all an immensely captivating and delightful read. Highly recommended.

It was ok. The twist was good but it wasn’t an overly funny or dramatic book. An easy read over Thanksgiving and I just felt meh.

I really really wanted to like this book but it just couldn't. It seemed to hit every plot point on the most superficial level possible. Instead of diving deep into any of the issues it just barely skimmed the surface. I also found the ending to be unbelievably neat. I can't believe that things would work out that well. What bothered me most though is how stereotypically southern the characters were. It was almost to the point that I was slightly offended, as a southerner myself. Not everyone acts like that.

The trouble you get into when you have tequila. It is this revelation that lends itself to explain how Emmaline returns home with a baby in tow to help with the family development business. Emmaline fresh from years living in the big Apple goes home to give her daughter a childhood rich in family love and tradition. Trouble is there’s a long standing rivalry between her mother and aunt versus Cootie the grand dame who rules the town and dictates the lives of all around her ,including her daughter who has a thing for Em’s cousin Beau. This is small town life at its funniest. It is steeped in tradition and yet these town people know the need for the tourist dollars they hope to attract. It was modern and funny although it relied a bit hard on the heroine’s introspection and the fact she could not remember who has fathered her child. The reveal of which did keep me reading to the end. Happy reading

This was a simple light read. I enjoyed the start of this book, and where it could go, however I figured out the twist by 6% into the book (and I usually don't try to figure those out but this was glaringly obvious). The coincidence of the whole situation was just too unbelievable for me to really get behind and because of that, this became an average book. Lots of small town gossip and crazy situations, however what irked me the most was that The Event that the book is titled after is a one-night-stand where Emme, the main character, conceives a child with a stranger. Due to 'tequila brain' - or some such nonsense- she cannot remember anything about that night - or the man she was with. Emme moves back home to her small hometown to raise her baby with her mother and extended family. So... the book is about a one night stand, yet on two occasions, the author could not find better ways to describe sex/intimacy/sleeping together than "what we did to make Faye". Honestly, it was as if a ten year old wrote this book.

That being said, it is almost suitable for a 10-year old in that there is no rough language or sexual situations (just badly worded ones) so... there is that.

This was a cute southern romance. I enjoyed this book but I found it a bit predictable. One thing I really enjoyed was the small town gossip, rivalries and judgement that occurs in this book. The is was a very honest portrayal of a small southern town where everyone knows everyone and word travels extremely fast.

Overall it was a cute, quick romance.

Oh man, I really wanted to like this book but i just felt it was too much. Too much southern, too much drama, just too much. I’m very close to where this book takes place, it was my initial interest in it, but I don’t know a single person who acts this way. Not to say that there aren’t people who do, but again, I just feel it was over exaggerated. And my biggest pet peeve about this book was the contestant talk about the main characters boobs. We get it, you had a baby and your boobs are huge! But readers do not need to be reminded every single chapter.

I’m sure this book will appeal to many readers, unfortunately I am not one of them.
