i really enjoyed reading this book, the characters were great and I really enjoyed that there was a western flair to it. Overall i really enjoyed reading this book.

I thought this was a story based on the wild west shoot 'em up genre. It is not, but it's still a very good book. Jim's life has been pushed around by circumstances. He doesn't complain, just keeps his head down and keeps working. Dan Hendrickson has given us a character to cheer for. He takes care of his family while taking out the bad guys. Obviously the bad guys don't like this.
The book is different as you find out many times that Jim could have taken a different path but always chooses to take the right one, no matter how hard it is. I really enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more about Deputy Jim.

First book I have read in this series. If this prequel is any indication of the quality of the other books, I’m ready to jump in. The “old man” obviously passed on some good genes to the kid.
