This one was too much of a cookie cutter- I mean the main guy is named Rake. I love a good romance but at least try to make it original.

I will admit I didn't read more than the first few chapters but the fact that the twins are 30 years old and speak to each other the way they do, it just didn't feel realistic as a 35-year-old. I didn't feel anything for them or feel compelled to find out anything more about what was happening in their lives or what was going on with their mother.

As I didn't read too much, I'm not publicly posting a review because I don't feel I have enough to really give anybody an opinion of the book or the writing beyond the immaturity of the main characters.

When Rake Tarbell wakes up, hung over in Venice, he has no idea how he ended up there from California. Rake’s a wealthy, playboy so when he realizes his wallet is gone and his bank account is emptied, he immediately panics. Rake is on his own for the first time ever, unless you count Lillith, the hilariously charming little girl claiming to be his daughter, and the beautiful woman helping her.

Claire Delaney will do whatever it takes to help Lillith, even if that means dealing with a handsome, stubborn man. After a few days, she decides to let her hair down and have some fun which results in a few romantic nights as they both search for answers. The more they discover, the more dangerous the situation gets. Is she ready to let go of Rake and Lillith? She doesn’t think so.

The Love Scam is a funny and unique rom-com with a mystery twist. The characters were interesting as were their backstories and how it was weaved together via multiple perspectives between past and present. At times it did get a bit confusing as it wasn’t always immediately clear whose POV it was. I adored Lillith, she was so witty. I enjoyed the story but, didn’t love it. I’m not a huge fan the insta-love trope, it felt very rushed to me.

Thank you @stmartinspress and netgalley for this book in exchange for an honest review.

The love Scam is an entertaining, full of wit story.
It was a fun book with enjoyable characters. It's a low angst story, not my favorite, but I'd certainly recommend it.

Overall, it was an enjoyable story with some funny scenes and some plot twists and turns. Overall, I found the romance to be a little bit flat and unbelievable. Pacing was a little off, and I was annoyed by how confused I was, but it does all come together in the end. I'm not sure I can say that I found it completely satisfying, but I also couldn't put the book down, so something kept me hooked! .

This is a contemporary romantic comedy with a promising plot, but I didn’t know there was a previous book and therefore, I didn't read it. For the most part, that was fine, but then I got the feeling that I was missing something. The writing is very funny, and the story is laced with internal dialogues or snarky banter. It was entertaining and fun, with its bits of sentimentalism at the end.

It was an enjoyable read. This was not my first book from this author and it won't be my last. I look forward to reading more books from them.

CUTE cover. It drew me in immediately. If you like a romance story with a bit of mystery, this is for you. I loved MaryJanice Davidson’s Undead series. This is perfect for anyone who wants a lighthearted paranormal romance.

I received this copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am not the right reader for this book. It was clear from the start that I just wasn’t a good fit for the writing style so it’s a DNF for me. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.

Take finds himself in Venice unsure of how he got there. His bank account has been emptied and someone is claiming to be his long lost daughter.

While the premise of this story is unique and kept me interested, I didn’t find any of the characters to be very compelling.

I received this book from Netgalley/Publisher for review.

I wish I had known that this was part of a series, although it can be read as a standalone I think I would have understood it better had I read the first book Danger, Sweetheart. Contemporary romance is my first love and this checks all the boxes in what I love in that genre. Funny and a quick read.

This was, unfortunately, a DNF for me. I didn’t care for the characters, but I think it could fit the bill for some!

The Love Scam is unfortunately not for me. I had tried this book and set it down in hopes of one day coming back to it, but now it is time to mark as DNF.

This was a tough one. I didn’t love the hero in this story. I did find it to be a bit rough to get through. Not bad writing just not a very interesting love story. Will try this author again

The Love Scam by Mary Janice Davidson ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My thoughts: Thank you for my ARC from @netgalley for an honest review. I really enjoyed these characters-Rake was a mess from the beginning but then he starts to redeem himself throughout his journey. Claire is feisty & flawed which I love in a character. I loved the opening of Rake waking up in Venice without knowing where he is & why he is there! ❤️

From Amazon— Rake Tarbell is in trouble. When the fabulously wealthy and carefree bachelor wakes up horribly hungover in Venice, it’s not something that would normally be a problem...except he has no idea how he got there from California. Or who stole his wallet. Or who emptied his bank account of millions. Or who in the world is Lillith, the charming little girl claiming to be his long lost daughter. For the first time in his life, Rake is on his own and throwing Benjamins around aren’t going to solve his problem. Now if only the gorgeous, fun, and free-spirited woman who brought Lillith into his life was willing to help the situation…

Claire Delaney finds Rake’s problems hilarious and is not in the least bit sorry of adding to them by bringing Lillith into the mix. A pretty Midwestern girl with a streak for mischief, Claire isn't the type to hang around with a guy like Rake. Even if he is drop-dead handsome and charming as all get-out. Even if he needs help and she has all the answers. But if this helps Lillith, she will go out of her way. And with a guy like Rake, she’s willing to bend her rules a bit for some fun.

But when adventure-filled days turn to romantic nights as they search for answers, and someone starts following them through the streets of Venice, Claire realizes she's playing more than just a game. And maybe, just maybe, she isn't willing to let go of Rake or Lillith just yet.

I absolutely loved this book! I was so engrossed by the characters right off the bat. Her writing is out of this world, if you've been in a reading slump this is a great place to start, it absolutely blew me away!

It's a little hard to rate this one as I loved the premise and the idea but the writing was a little disappointing! I was completely drawn in because of the blurb and the promising plot, but I had a hard time reading this as it was all over the place.

This is book 2 of the Danger, Sweetheart Series. Rake wakes up in Venice with no idea how he got there. The biggest problem is that he supposedly now has a daughter, and her mother is now in his life as well., Mom and daughter are now causing problems in his life and oh, his bank account has been drained.

I always enjoy reading MaryJanice Davidson's books! This one was a fun read and I loved reading it by the pool this summer. I can't wait for her next book!

One word for this book: discombobulated. Rake wakes up hungover in Venice, Italy and he doesn't know how he got there from California. Claire Delaney helps Rake out of the canal where he has lost his phone and wallet. Claire knows more about Rake then she's letting on but first up she has a girl with her that she says is his daughter, say what? I haven't read book one but this book basically throws you into a hot mess of nonsense and then spends a lot of the book telling not showing and on top of that I'm suppose to believe that Rake and Claire fall head over heels in love in under a week. It was odd from the start. I kept hoping at some point it would start making sense. It didn't. I won't read more in this series and I'm not sure I'll try this author again.
