Abigail is a spinstress from the East who is sent from Chicago to Nebraska to be a schoolteacher to try to help a government agent (her former fiancé Dashiel) figure out which of three boys was the son of a desperado that was on the loose and intending to kidnap his boy. The culture shock, the weather, and the need to keep secrets all threaten to derail the process but Abigail is determined.

I truly enjoyed this story as I have all the books in the Daughters of the Mayflower series that I have read. I recommend it to anyone who likes historical romance chock full of interesting characters, wonderful descriptions of places, well researched details of the life at the time and a plot that keeps you awake at night.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Abby and Dash have a history, and now find themselves working on catching the man who killed her father. Quickly figured out who the bad guy was, and wished more with the grumpy guy in town (liked that side story). Abby as a teacher, has sweet students, and overall I enjoyed this one. Some parts were easy to skim, and felt it could have been a bit shorter, but would still recommend this book.

If you enjoy historical fiction, combined with romance, intrigue, and danger, then you’ll love this book by author Suzanne Dietz. The story is actually based on a real event in January of 1888 but this is not an extremely strict retelling of that blizzard. Dietz has taken creative license with it, in an extremely compelling way.

Abigail and Dashiell have history together, causing them to try to avoid working together. That doesn’t happen and they must learn about forgiveness through God. While they’re learning that, they’re trying to figure out “who done it”.

So much happens after the first few chapters that I kept reading as quickly as possible, making for some late nights. But it was so worth it! While this is book 11 in the series, each book is a stand alone so grab a copy and enjoy!

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review. All thoughts are my own.

I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. It was such a fun and curious read. I loved the historical elements and the second-chance romance had me smiling and happy. I recommend it to those that like their romances with a witty exchange and a mystery background.

A gorgeous story filled with godly messages and a wonderful cast of characters. The descriptions had me shivering in the snow and gasping at the twists and turns throughout the novel. I had never read anything by Susanne Dietze, but will definitely look for her books in the future. If you enjoy clean, historical novels, this is a wonderful way to experience a new author.

The Blizzard Bride written by Susanne Deitze is a compelling historical fiction mystery that takes you into the lives of fantastic characters to solve a crime for the Secret Service. This is book 11 in the Daughters of the Mayflower series, and honestly it is now one of my favorites. This book has a lot of characters, but you get to know each one of them and they make the mystery come to life. The main characters are fighting complicated pasts that ended badly and now they have to work together to save a little boy that doesn't even know that he is in danger. Then there is a dangerous blizzard that complicates everything. The setting, the characters, and the historical references all come together to make a great read that will keep you wishing all at once that you would get to the end to solve the crime, and that the story would keep going on forever.

The Blizzard Bride Story

The story begins in Chicago in 1887. Abigail Bracey is having lunch with Mr Welch about information related to the death of her father. Her father was murdered four years ago on the steps of the bank that he managed. He was caught up in a counterfeiting crime and the Secret Service knows The Artist was responsible for his murder. Abigail has been struggling with living in Chicago because of the family shame that this event has brought to light, so when Mr Welch suggests that she work with them undercover, she jumps at the opportunity. This is until the person that she would be working with joins them for lunch and it is Dashiell Lassiter who was her childhood sweetheart.  He left her with no explanation just before they were to be married. She can't work with this man, but she will do anything to make her fathers death mean something.

The Secret Service now knows that The Artist is Fletcher Pitch and he is searching for his son. Abby and Dash have to travel to Nebraska and insert themselves into the community to try to determine which boy is Fletcher's son and save him and bring Pitch to justice. Abby is going to be working as a school teacher and will have a chance to get to know all the students. There are 3 boys that could be the one that they are looking for. Dash is going to work with with horses for the local hotel and get to know the new people coming into town as well as the townspeople that have lived there all their lives. If they can only find a way to successfully work together despite their anger about their past and what each one believes took place, hopefully they can catch Fletcher Pitch in time and bring justice and save a family.

The History of the Storm

I wish that I had skipped to the end of the book and read about all the research that was done about The Children's Blizzard before I read the story. Living in the Midwest I have lived though my fair share of blizzards and know how wicked the wind and the snow can be when they combine. The storm in the book started with an unusually nice winter/spring weather day and people were wearing lighter clothes than normal, and even leaving behind jackets because at the time they weren't needed. When the blizzard strikes without warning, Abby has to make quick decisions about how to take care of her students and herself.

The Blizzard Bride is a great book from start to finish. The character development was fantastic, and even the side stories all joined together to make a wonderful story full of heart and hope. I highly recommend this book, whether you are a fan of historical fiction or not, you will learn so much as you are swept up in a story that ends to quickly. Make this book part of your reading list and share this review with any friends that would be interested as well.

I really liked the character development and growth of the characters throughout this book. Even the side characters were interesting and well written. The plot was good. I loved the historical information on the blizzard. That was really interesting. My only slight disappointment was the 'bad guy' Abby and Dash were trying to find was completely obvious to me from the beginning. But it was still a very enjoyable read.

A second-chance romance with an adventurous twist. This wild and crazy adventure will make you laugh, and maybe even cry as Abby and Dash struggle their way through old wounds and new heartache. Dash is after a killer and is driven to bring a counterfeiter to justice. Meanwhile, Abby's out for blood and would like nothing more than to see vengeance brought down upon her father's killer. Taking up residence in Wells is the perfect cover for both operatives, and even though Dash and Abby have their own painful past, they find themselves unable to stay away from each other.
If Abby can't learn how to forgive, she'll end up a bitter, lonely shell.
Susanne Dietze does a marvelous job of using the characters around Dash and Abby to shine a light of God's faith while showing Abby where her future might lead should she continue her path. While she's brave and strong, and willing to do whatever it takes to care for the children, her heart has hardened against God and man. Reading through her pain, and seeing through her heart's journey brought a sweet nostalgia, making me want to read this story again and again.
From start to finish, this novel packed a might punch in a small package. A combination of mystery, danger, romance, and forgiveness, all wrapped up in a beautifully worded piece of art.

A new-to-the-series author joins the Daughters of the Mayflower team in The Blizzard Bride, and seamlessly transitions readers to the next descendant’s story with a counterfeiter, the return of a first love, and a blizzard.

Susanne Dietz pulled me right into this book with a woman set on avenging her father, The Secret Service, and a mystery to solve. The residents of Wells, Nebraska, especially the school children, and Abby and Dash kept me reading.

There is a lot happening in this story, yet not once does it become confusing or convoluted. Dietz weaves a tale of finding the place you belong, forgiveness, and understanding in The Blizzard Bride. And the depiction of the blizzard had me hunched under a blanket to stay warm.

You do not want to miss this installment to the series (and if you haven’t read any of them yet, this is a great place to start).

The Blizzard Bride was written by Susanne Dietze, and is book eleven in The Daughters of the Mayflower series.
Summary: Abigail Bracey is alone. Her parents are dead, and her childhood sweetheart abandoned her. All she has left is a determination to find her father’s killer.
When the chance arises to help bring the murderer to justice, Abigail agrees to work undercover as a schoolteacher in Wells, Nebraska.
Little did she know that part of the deal would require her to work closely with Agent Dashiell Lassiter-the man who abandoned her so many years ago.
Will it be worth it to work side by side with the man she now despises in order to get justice for her father? And what will happen when a freak storm threatens to blow everything to pieces?
My Thoughts: I liked this book. The plot was interesting, and there were so many memorable characters which made this book fun to read. I really like books with small towns where you get to know everybody and all their secrets, eccentricities, etc. and this book did a great job in that respect.
I also appreciated the strong message of forgiveness present in this book, and how the characters coped with the past mistakes they had made.
Overall, it was a fun read, and fits in well with this series.

I've read every single one of the books in this series, and honestly, I was kind of getting tired. Yes, they are interesting because they are different points in history, but I can only read so much of a certain kind of book before needing a break. This actually was a break within the series.

With the previous books, I've felt like it was this historical event or backdrop with characters put into that time and place. This time, it was like the event was the backdrop to the characters AND there was more substance with the mystery.

I totally suspected [ Burt Crabtree (hide spoiler)] from just about the moment he was introduced. I didn't have a guess as to who [ his son was (hide spoiler)] but I felt very vindicated at the end :) There is also a possibility that the similarities to When Calls The Heart, Little House, and Doctor Quinn made me like this book more. I liked these characters more than many others in this series. This really was like a refresh for me.

The Mayflower series has now brought us to Nebraska in the late 1880's. The sweet romance with vivid settings and fantastic characters, kept me reading through the turns all way to the end. A lovely read in a charming small town.

Two characters with a past, a murderer to find and a small town with interesting characters all added to a very enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed the character growth both Abigail and Dashiell had to go through in this adventurous story. Abigail had to learn how to truly forgive those who wronged her and how to trust again after being betrayed by friends. I really loved how she had compassion for the old man everyone else written off and was actually sad at how that story ended. Dashiell had to learn that his reading difficulties did not make him a lessor man. I enjoyed the interactions between these two and how they struggled to face their feelings even though there was still unresolved feelings and chemistry.

The suspense plot was interesting but for me it was not surprising since I guessed correctly who the counterfeiter was hiding as as soon as that character was introduced. Not sure if that was the intention of the author. Even though I knew who it was, I still found myself running through the pages to see how it all ends.

Another great book in this series. Highly recommended for fans of historical romance with a bit of suspense/mystery.

This was such a fun historical read! This is my first read of The Daughters of the Mayflower series but I will be looking in to more of them. This book has great characters, an interesting(and based on true events) plot and a satisfying conclusion. And can we talk about that cover?? It is so pretty! The blizzard element made for some exciting and tense moments and the mystery angle was really good. All in all, this was an enjoyable and easy read. This book perfect for curling up with a blanket, a cup of tea/coffee and reading to your heart's content.

I received this book from the author and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

5 Stars: 5/5 Star Rating
No one wants a blizzard to happen to solve a crime, but that may be how this story is resolved, or is it? Will this story end well ? Dash and Abby have baggage between and now they're working together to find her father's killer and his young son. They are sure the killer will come looking for his son and they plan to use it against him.
But can they work together without the painful past from ruining the plan?
I love a good historical fiction and this has suspense involved which is also another of my favorites to read and this book is no disappointment! I highly recommend this book to readers.

In the author's latest book we accompany Abigail Bracey to Nebraska in January 1888 as she goes there to teach school but it's only a front for the real task of why she's there.
Several years before her father was involved in counterfeiting with some other unsavory characters and was murdered.
Abigail will stop at nothing as she goes undercover. As a certified teacher she takes her job seriously and always puts her students needs first.
Throw in childhood friend, Dash who assigns himself as her protector as he follows her to Nebraska, for her safely of course!
Abigail is still smarting over Dash not marrying her several years in the past , leaving without explaining the reason to her, leaving her hurt and confused. Bring out the wrath of the woman!
I have heard of the Great Blizzard in Nebraska , a tragedy that claimed the life of so many children that is was called, The Children's Blizzard.
Can Abigail and Dash put aside their differences to work together to find the counterfeiter and protect his son before it's too late?
I am impressed by the research the author has put into this book. Even though I had heard of this tragic blizzard I learned so much more detail about it through the author's impressive research.
I have read all of the Daughter's of The Mayflower right from the start. Each book is impeccably research and gives us a glimpse into a fascinating time period in history we are able to learn more about. This really is an interesting series!

The Blizzard Bride takes place in 1887-1888 in the small town of Wells, Nebraska. Abigail Bracey has suffered many losses, being abandoned by the man she loved, becoming a social outcast due to her father’s criminal behavior, and the deaths of both parents, leaving her bitter and resentful. She’s been offered the opportunity by the Secret Service to help in their efforts to catch the man responsible for her father’s death, a counterfeiter and murderer named Fletcher Pitch. Pitch is searching for his son, an 8 year old boy being hidden and cared for by his aunt since his mother’s death. Abigail has been offered a position teaching the school in Wells, Nebraska, the town that an informant told them the child and his aunt have recently moved to. Here, she is to use her position as teacher to try to determine which of three 8 year old boys being raised by a single mother is actually Pitch’s son, as they don’t know what names the boy and aunt are going by or what they look like. Abigail is eager to have the chance to bring her father’s killer to justice, but then she learns the Secret Service operative she must work with is Dashiell Lassiter, the man who broke her heart. Abigail and Dash must find a way to work together to catch a criminal, and Abigail must find a way to forgive for past wrongs and to again find her faith that God really is there and has always been there loving her even during her darkest times.

I’ve read several of the Daughters of the Mayflower series, and I found The Blizzard Bride to be as exciting and engaging as the others. I love when stories like these are based on historical events, in this case, the Children’s Blizzard of 1888. I found the characters to be well-developed, and I found Abby to be relatable; the fear, bitterness, and resentment that she holds as well as her struggle to offer forgiveness. I found Dash to be endearing; his steadfastness in his love for Abby and his desire to protect her and do what will be best for her even if it comes at a cost to him. And I love the rekindling of Abby’s faith that helps her to forgive, helps her to encourage a friend to also make peace, and allows her to open her heart up to love again. I truly enjoyed reading The Blizzard Bride.

Susanne Dietze pens a worthy addition to the Mayflower Brides series with her title, The Blizzard Bride. Hoping against hope for snow this year, the title really appealed to me, as I love the cold ferocity of a blizzard (as long as my family is all safely ensconced at home with me).
Set in the open plains of Nebraska in 1887, Abigail Bracey agrees to help the Secret Service by posing as a school teacher while looking for a missing boy and a counterfeiter. That might have been simple if the operative assigned the case were not Dash Lassiter, who left her six years ago in the midst of their dreams for a wedding.
Abby has a lot of courage and spunk, but she also needs to learn to rely on others and the Lord. Life’s difficulties have taught her to reject getting too close to people, and to trust only herself.
Dash has been cut to the core by people’s mean assessment of his lack. I found myself wondering whether Abby would truly be able to see beyond these deficiencies or whether she would reject Dash for good. Then, the big question, can Dash see himself as a person of worth in God’s eyes, or will he forever believe his inability equals personal failure?
Themes in The Blizzard Bride include questions of unanswered prayers and why we suffer for others’ sins. We also see lessons of forgiveness, fairness, the spirit of love (& spunk) fostered by forgiveness.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinions, for which I am solely responsible.

Intriguing stand alone book from the Daughters of the Mayflower Series. Well written with a storyline that includes historical events, mystery, romance, spiritual encouragement and is perfectly clean. The Blizzard Bride includes everything I enjoy in a book.

The book's description is well done in capturing your attention. I will add that the characters of the book were quite interesting and the relationships Abigail forms with her new community are heartwarming. Dash forms friendships with others as he begins a job so we get a glimpse of the whole town. Wells is a town that rallies around to help each other unless you are Maynard Yates. We all know a Maynard and this book seeks to explain there will be something in their life experience that causes them to behave as they do. Something deep inside that will cover up the hurt. This book shows how Abby forged a friendship with the most unlovely of residents. Your heart is drawn to this storyline. Through this we see Abby return to her faith that had been shelved after her father's murder.

Excellent read! Thank you NetGalley and Barbour Publishing, Inc. for a copy. These are my personal views.

Abigail Bracey was a bitter wounded woman. Her long time love had left her, Her father had been murdered, as it turned out by a criminal counterfeiter who he had colluded with. Her church members deserted them, even though they had known nothing about her fathers criminal ways. Broken in spirit, her mother died. Abigail was alone, barely surviving as a teacher, until someone found out who her father was and complained to the school board that she was not fit to be teaching children. She lives only to see the man who killed her father pay.Follow Abigail as she is forced to work with her lost love who is now with the Secret Service if she wants to see the criminal brought to justice.I won't spoil the story, but it is a great tale! Inspirational, moving, suspenseful and romantic!
