Author Mark Griffin has written an amazing Autobiography about one of my favorite actors. Touching on all of the important facts about the life of Rock Hudson, Griffin does not leave any important facts unexposed. I highly recommend this Autobiography to all of the fans of Rock Hudson!

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher.
How I was in LOVE with Rock Hudson during my teenage years. I watched all his movies and especially loved the ones with Doris Day.
What chemistry those two had, Pillow Talk is to this day my favourite of his.
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to delve into the live of this special star.

Mark Griffin has successfully created the perfect book for Rock Hudson fans. An interesting biography which draws from personal journals to 100's of interviews with the people who knew him best: family members, friends, co-stars, even his wife Phyllis Gates and boyfriend Marc Christian. Covers Rock's lifetime, from an impoverished, abused child in Illinois to the hottest sex symbol in Hollywood.
Mark Griffin has successfully achieved writing a complete biography, reference and filmography for all the films Rock Hudson starred in, in his illustrious movie career. This book is soon to be a major motion picture.

This is my honest, uncompensated review. Thank you Harper publishing and NetGalley for providing a review copy.

Grew up watching Doris Day and Rock Hudson movies. I loved their chemistry together. It was nice to read more about him.
Good knowing that his coming out didn't effect their friendship.
I recommend reading learning more about one of Hollywood Ron com actors

Mark Griffin does as excellent a job in researching the history of Rock Hudson. Though there are some aspect of the star's distant past lost forever to history, the author does masterful work in putting the pieces together; sometimes making informed deductions, and others placing the different opinions out there, and leaving them for the reader to determine.

Such is the case when he delves into the aspect of Hudson's only marriage. Did the woman know she was marrying an active gay man? Was she a lesbian in a marriage of convenience. It is pretty clear that the author has an opinion on this part of the subject's life, but he does not make "fact" where there is no conclusive evidence. Actions such as these keep this book a great study on its subject and out of the realm of headline grabbing pulp.

Where the book fell short, for me, was through the lengthy descriptions of all of the films starring Hudson. A lot of them, the more "soap opera" tones ones, I have not seen. Though it is good to get a description and what worked in the plot, I found myself skimming many pages to get through the dull recitations of the movie plots.

The biography soars when we get a look at the backstage relationships, conflicts, etc. Because I am not a fan of many of Hudson's films, I found this book a slog. However it is valuable for the Hollywood history therein and no doubt deep fans of the star will really enjoy this work.

Quite interesting but I found the bits where the author gave a full storyline of Rock's films a little boring. If I wanted to know what they were about I would have googled them. I thought it would have been more about his life.

This definitely is a "definitive" biography of Rock Hudson and the true life he led. The author has done meticulous research here of his early life as a abused child,, his start in Holly wood and covered his film career including antidotes of each movie and its co stars. His inside look here of correspondence feels somewhat intrusive but is captivating to read. .I have always enjoyed his movies and his fight for the right to be openly gay in a time of great hate in this country . He was tortured in many ways but always a star . He was a interesting figure, immensely talented and will forever live on in our hearts. Very nicely done and I highly recommend this biography on one of our greatest stars.

Very interesting biography of a huge star who has passed out of public consciousness. Rock Hudson was the worlds biggest movie star in the late 1950sand early 1960s. His entire career was based on a careful and calculated veiling of his homosexuality, but his very public death from AIDS was an important step in creating greater understanding and compassion regarding the disease.
The book offers a standard chronological telling of Hudson’s movie career and his private life. There is much detail (perhaps too much in the recounting of some of his more minor roles), but greater insight into this enigma of a man would have been appreciated.

This was a long biography. The interesting parts for me were the personal ones from childhood to death. It was new to me that he suffered such abuse and neglect as a child. I have to admit that the private parts also made me feel like a voyeur. I sometimes have a bad feeling with reading biographies that were in no way approved by the actual person. It seems invasive and interpreted by the author and whoever the author speaks to for their research. Friends and family are also not the most reliable of sources. I also wonder who gave permission to go through personal correspondence, etc. Having said all that, most was well written and interesting. I did come away feeling as though I knew more of the man than Pillow Talk and AIDS. He did deserve more than that. A lot of the book was dry in that it felt like it was a listing of every movie and Tv show he had ever acted in. That got stale. All in all, this was an average biography.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author Mark Griffin and Bookbuzz

Many years ago I had one of my greatest moments, Rock Hudson spoke to me and our bodies touched. I was at the theater and he was sitting in the same row. When it was time to leave, we had our “moment”.

Of course, I devoured this well written biography. Griffin did a wonderful job not only describing Hudson’s life, but his death and the impact it had on the world.

I have basically seen all of his films and really enjoyed the book. It’s engaging and brought me back to the joys of Rock Hudson and his gifts to film.

Thank you Netgalley, I really loved this book!

This is the quintessential Rock Hudson book - charming, sensitive. I was always a fan and still am.
