Rule of thumb: as someone who reads multiple books at once, the surefire sign of a good one is if I set everything else aside and only focus on that book. Which means I REALLY enjoyed #TheLastFlight, because I ended up devouring it over the course of a few hours last weekend. The opening crackles with tension and suspense as Claire, fed up with her abusive politician husband, decides to make a run for it and swaps plane tickets with a mysterious stranger at the last second in hopes of escaping her old life and starting fresh. Unfortunately, when the plane Claire was supposed to be on crashes into the ocean, not only does Claire’s escape plan begin to fall apart, but the secrets the mysterious woman was running from also start to come to light. Nothing I love more than an anti-damsel-in-distress story, and I love how Claire and Eva (the mysterious woman) were agents of change in their story and controlled their decisions and behavior instead of allowing the dangerous men in their lives to gaslight them. And while the book lags a little in the middle, ultimately I was invested in the mystery and story of two women who will do whatever it takes to win with the lousy hand they’d been dealt in life.

I'm a sucker for a good dose of suspense right now, and The Last Flight is a thrilling page-turner to read in a weekend--I inhaled it greedily. Claire and Eva meet at the airport, where both women are desperately trying to escape from bad situations. Claire's politican husband is abusive, and the only way for her to break free is to start over with a new identity. Eva has problems of her own (revealed in her backstory), and she proposes that she and Claire swap plane tickets. Eva gets on the plane to Puerto Rico, and Claire will start life over as Eva in California. This book is fast-paced, and there's a sense of urgency and anxiety that will keep you turning the pages until you find out the fate of both women. Too many details would spoil the plot, so you'll have to trust me that this is a must read for your summer reading stack! Instead of flying to Detroit (and a new life) as previously arranged, her new assignment is to head to Puerto Rico. As fate would have it, Claire meets an unlikely savior at JFK Airport on the morning of the flight. Eva James has her own reasons for agreeing to switch tickets with Claire. The solution seems ideal for both women until the flight that Eva was on to Puerto Rico crashes into the ocean killing everyone on board. NO SPOILERS.

Although fast-paced and easy to read in a couple of hours, I ended up being disappointed in this novel. The alternating chapters from each woman's point of view made the narrative clunky and disrupted the flow of the story. After awhile, I found myself completely uninterested in their issues, problems and backgrounds. I never really related to either Claire or Eva and so much of it seemed far-fetched and stretched credulity. One connection extremely so. I've seen many other glowing reviews, but I just couldn't really buy into it after all. It was definitely not any kind of thriller and the conclusion was rather anticlimactic. Oh well, better luck next time.

Loved the premise of this novel! This was narrated by present day Claire and in flashbacks by Eva, which created a good balance and set up two interesting storylines. All the secrets these characters kept hidden, and the many questions stemming from the plane crash and Rory’s background made this a very suspenseful read. Overall, I thought it was a littttttle too unbelievable and eventually too tidy to buy into, but I enjoyed the ride.

Oh my goodness, this was an intense read! Two women, one fleeing from an abusive high-powered husband, and one escaping a drug kingpin, have a chance meeting in the airport. They swap tickets and then the unthinkable happens: one of the planes crash and there are no survivors. So now their lives are inexplicably entwined as each woman must navigate in a city she doesn't understand with an alternate identity. I inhaled this book from the beginning as the pace never wavers and the problems continue to mount. Very relevant in this #MeToo movement as secrets are revealed that alter many lives. A fascinating novel!

Review: Thrillers can be hit or miss for me but this one was SO good. I was only going to read a few pages and read 40% in one sitting and stayed up late to finish. I had a strong sense of urgency to find out what happens to these two and was rooting for both protagonists in different ways (but was drawn more to Claire's present-day world). I really liked how the two POVs and timelines came together and loved the supporting characters as well. These are strong female characters and I loved that there are no alcoholic, unreliable, unstable females in this one! (I every time this is the "big twist.") The two women are clever, strong, and self-sufficient. This one has similar vibes to Dear Wife if you've read and enjoyed.

Have you ever judged a book just by its cover before reading it and then you don't read it? Well I have before and then of course regretted it but not this book. It is going to be the best you have read in a long while! With most books about women it's usually romance but not this one, it's full of suspense and just edge of your seat excitement! What I loved was the way the author went into each one back and forth so you could see how it played out for them to change their lives to hopefully start a new one with no past. It makes you think could you do this for real and it's scary all through the book thinking one of them would be found out. I recommend it highly and so glad I got to read it , It is going to be a keeper for me to read again!

THE LAST FLIGHT by Julie Clark is a perfectly-paced, suspenseful domestic drama that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Filled with unexpected twists and turns, I could not put it down. It is the story of two women in dire circumstances who decide they need to escape their current lives. Claire Cook has a seemingly perfect life living in an elegant Fifth Avenue townhouse with her rich and powerful husband that is about to run for the Senate. However, behind closed doors he is abusive and manipulative, keeping her in a state of constant fear. She crafts a clever plan to disappear without a trace and start a new life. Eva was a brilliant Chemistry student at Berkeley before one ill-fated decision left her in a situation where her life is in danger. She knows she needs to vanish if she is to survive. The two women meet by chance at the airport and decide to swap flights and identities. What follows is a wild ride, alternating between Claire and Eva’s respective stories. I loved how the book spoke to many issues that are highly relevant in today’s news. The female friendships portrayed in the book were inspiring and uplifting. Wow! The Last Flight is addictive and suspenseful, hooking you right from the beginning and taking you on a wild ride. I wasn’t sure about some aspects as they seemed improbable but this book has LAYERS that are slowly peeled back to show everything that is really going on. I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller and couldn’t wait to see how it ended! There were so many unexpected directions and twists, all at a fast pace traveling through the lives of both Eva and Claire. I would highly recommend picking up this unique thriller and I can’t wait to read more by Julie Clark! This is a great read! I loved the prologue but I did feel it had a slow start after that. For me the beginning was too drawn out and I was having a hard time wanting to read this book but thankfully after Claire finally gets on her way to airport the book really picks up the pace. That’s where Claire crosses paths with Eva and the book continues on a different path, much like the women. We continue to follow Claire as she moves forward towards a new life but the story will start changing POV as the chapters go back and forth between narrators. With Eva we pick up her story six months before and slowly move forward in time as her backstory is revealed. I normally hate flashbacks and find myself annoyed with multiple narrators as I usually find myself caring more about one than the other and wanting to stay with them but this author did a great job keeping up the tension and suspense for both women. I did find myself more interested in Eva but both women have compelling storylines and often had cliffhanger endings to their chapters so I really enjoyed the pacing and perspectives of both women. I have some quibbles with the ending but I still really enjoyed this book and it’s unique storyline. Overall I definitely recommend this one and once it gets going you won’t want to put it down! An addictive, captivating thriller that was almost impossible to put down once I picked it up. I loved the journey both women took separately that still ended up finding unexpected ways to overlap. This is a story of women needing to escape their circumstances and doing so on their own terms, and it was so well-paced and taut. I always enjoy a plot with twists I never saw coming, and this definitely satisfied that longing.

Clair needs to escape her abusive husband. When she meets a woman at an airport as desperate for escape as her, they switch belongings and board each other’s flights. However, when Claire’s original flight goes down, she realizes the opportunity she has been presented. The ability to start over while everyone thinks she’s dead. However, the life she stepped into isn’t what she thought it was.

I enjoyed this one. It has an interesting concept. I loved the fact that both women made changes to improve their situations. They didn’t sit back and let things happen to them. They fought back, although it took awhile to learn that lesson. I was surprised by one of the twists, which is always a good thing!

At times I felt like this book did drag a bit. I couldn’t fully connect with either of the characters, so I didn’t love the story as much as I thought I would. Some of the twists were pretty predictable as well. I just wanted a bit more from it.

Over all, this is a solid story. It is a quick read with a few great twists. If you’re looking for a feminist thriller, check this one out.

It’s been a WHILE since a book had me HOOKED and on the edge of my seat and so completely engrossed. Two women escaping bad situations (TW for domestic abuse) meet in an airport and trade tickets to trade lives, and it makes for suuuuuch a good story that kept surprising me.

This was a solid fast paced thriller with a uniquely interesting plot and alternating timelines. It kept me reading from the start although there were a few dull spots. I would like to have had more suspense as well. I would try more books from this talented author.

This was a well written and intriguing story of two women wanting a different life. Both were strong likable characters and the plot had some good twists.
Really enjoyed it.

The last flight is awesome, and has left me with a serious book hangover. I have been seeing this one for months, wasn’t quite sure what it was about, but decided to give it a shot based on the glowing reviews.

If you aren’t sure what this one is about, basically two women in crisis meet at the airport and decide to switch tickets and escape their terrible situations that they have ended up in life.

I noticed recently, I’ve been reading a lot of books where female friendship takes a big role, and I’m really enjoying seeing all the authors who were inspired by the me too movement.

I don’t want to spoil anything, so I will keep this brief. It’s fantastic! Go read it, and then message a book friend, this is one you will want to discuss after. It left me wanting to reread it as well.

Remember when every book was being compared to Gone Girl for a little while? Well this really did bring me Gone Girl vibes.

I highly recommend this book to mystery fans, Gone Girl lovers, and those looking for a quick engaging read.

This was the best thriller I’ve read in a long time! It was fast-paced and kept me turning the pages from the very beginning to the very end.

I’m a big fan of domestic thrillers, but this one was unique as it focused on the actual escape. I also liked that Claire’s point of view was in the present while Eva’s was in the past. I will be recommending this one to everyone!
