Two women, both desperate to flee their lives and the men controlling them, cross paths in an airport bar, giving them both the chance to change their lives and start anew. But at what price?

Claire is married to Rory Cook, heir to a dynastic New York family, powerful in both money and politics. But the charming, fun and easy going man she fell in love with and married has turned into a controlling bully who abuses her both mentally and physically. With Rory's staff spying on her and reporting back to him, Claire works hard to maintain the picture of the perfect wife, but for months has been secretly making careful plans to disappear.

Eva, a penniless orphan who worked hard to gain a scholarship to Berkeley, was doing well in her studies until she fell for the wrong man and made a terrible mistake that got her expelled. Now adrift with no support she is coerced to work for another controlling man, who she knows could end her life if she tries to escape. She also knows the only way out for her is to disappear.

This is a very suspenseful book as the reader gets caught up in both women's stories as they try to outsmart the predatory men after them. Despite living in the MeToo era, theirs are very real situations where women are in danger at the hands of cruel and controlling men.

Omigosh! This is a 5* suspense thriller all the way!! It’s a good thing I had nothing planned today as it was absolutely un-put-downable!

Very well written. The action (although flip flopping between then and now with 2 different first person speakers) was very clear and straight forward. Anomalies were explained just a chapter or two after I was questioning their validity. Everything was plausible. Everything was understandable. Characters stayed true to the foundation laid by the author. Our two main characters, as well as several minor characters were very sympathetic.

First class all the way! I will certainly look for more books by this author!
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I recommend this book whole heartedly!

The Last Flight by Julie Clark was recommended to me by a good friend and at first I was skeptical because this is not my go to genre. But I can safely say I was completely wrong. I finished this book in 5 hours. The only thing I stopped to do while reading was eat dinner.

We’ve all thought about running away from home right? Well how easy is that to do? Claire Cook is about to find out. But will she ever really be able to escape what she’s running from?

What a thrilling premise! Two women who meet at the airport decide to swap their boarding passes in an attempt to leave their pasts behind and the people looking for them. And then, one of the planes crashes. The stories of the two women, one in the past, the other in the present, are expertly woven into a propulsive, fast-paced narrative. But it’s the women’s journeys—learning to stand up for themselves and escape the men who manipulate them—that give this story an emotional punch and make it hard to forget. Can’t wait for Julie Clark’s next novel!

Claire knows she needs to escape her life and her abusive powerful husband. When her plans fall apart to do so, Claire isn’t sure where to turn next. Until a chance encounter with Eva at the airport. Eva needs to disappear as well, and they can trade flights and each get away. When Claire’s original flight crashes however, she realizes she has very few options to start a new life while her old one is the center of the media. And how much did she really know about Eva anyway?

Two women in impossible situations, and each other their only way out. This book started a little slow for me, but once I got hooked I was HOOKED. I loved the dual plot lines and the dual time frames, it added so much to the story, and I really enjoyed that you didn’t really know what Eva was trying to escape in the beginning. I thought both of these women were so badass in their own way, and I loved seeing how they stood up for themselves and grew as the book went on. This is one you don’t want to miss!

Thank you to Sourcebooks for my gifted copy of this book!

The setup had me...two desperate women switch identities to save themselves and each other, Clark takes you on a breakneck ride through the events leading up to the switch and the choices each woman makes to save herself. This is all about the women—how they find their way and how the solidarity of women aids each in their flight for freedom.

Great story! Really well paced and unpredictable. Two protagonists that you really root for. As a Berkeley graduate, the sense of place was amazing and brought back so many memories. I read this in just two sittings, and will definitely recommend it to patrons

What a great and addictive suspense thriller this was!

This is the story of two vulnerable and yet strong and brave women who want to escape from their world which has become too dangerous to live in.
The two storylines are both very gripping and engaging. You are hooked and can't wait to know more about these two women.
The plot of the story is really good. It has twists and turns which keep you invested in the story and the characters. I enjoyed the pace of the story as well and by the end of it I could not wait to race to the finish. I liked the fact that t's a little dark at times. And the end is thankfully a fulfilling one. Many times the end lets you down but this one was spot on and I liked it.

I definitely enjoyed reading this terrific suspense thriller. I read it in one sitting! That's how good it is.
It is very well written and I will definitely be reading more of the author's books.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for sending me a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4★
“She’d been told that life was a single track, carrying you forward. If you worked hard, good things happened. But she’d always known it was more like a pinball, careening and racing. The thrill was in the unexpected.”

The publisher’s blurb about the book sets the scene: two women choose to escape trouble by swapping identities. Yes, it sounds improbable, but I have to say, the author has done a good job of taking me along for the ride.

One is the wife of a high-profile, would-be US senate candidate who's also the son of a very popular former senator. Think Kennedy-type fame. Claire’s husband is a classic good guy on the outside (handsome, charming, attentive) but brutal control freak in private. Not always. Only when he disapproves of her smile, her manner, her lack of obedience. So, yeah, we'd dump him for sure.

Eva, on the other hand, was an abandoned kid, raised in a home, could never catch a break but was academically smart. Especially in chemistry. Cue – shades of Breaking Bad! But she’s bright enough to want more from life, to be free to study, love, breathe. So, yeah, we'd opt to drop out.

Okay - one wants to escape a husband, one wants to escape a drug ring. Fair enough. But how the plans of each are figured out and then foiled and then adapted are revealed slowly, in alternating, chapters, designed to make us nervous.

“The level of detail needed to eliminate even the tiniest trace. Because there’s always something. A small thread, a seed of truth, a mistake. It only takes a tiny pinprick of circumstance to unravel it all.”

The famous wife Claire’s story is told in the present, while Eva’s story (the struggling “chemist”) is told in the months preceding the swap. The whole time, we just know they are bound to be discovered and want to say “SHUT UP! Don’t trust him, for crying out loud. CLOSE THE DOOR, avoid her – she might be a spy.”

Ah, that’s the fun! Good story, good characters, enjoyable read. It is due for release in June, but I’m posting this now because it’s still available for NetGalley reviewers until 28 June. It is also known as "The Flight: Two passengers. Two tickets. One chance to escape."

Thanks to NetGalley and Source Books Landmark for the preview copy from which I’ve quoted.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebook for the ARC of The Last Flight by Julie Clark. While searching for new books to read, I was intrigued by its clever premise and high ratings and decided to take a chance on a new author.

Claire Cook, the wife of a powerful politician, is tired of being physically and mentally abused by her husband. When her plans of escape are foiled, she is desperate to find a way out. While on her way to a business meeting, she has a chance encounter with a woman in distress named Eva, who asks her to switch plane tickets. Claire sees this as an opportunity to escape her life by reinventing herself and agrees to the proposition. Later, Claire learns that the plane she was originally supposed to be on crashes, possibly taking Eva with it. Now, Claire must assume Eva’s identity and start a new life, while at the same time looking for a way to get back at her husband.

This book begins with a bang and quickly draws the reader into the drama that is unfolding. Claire and Eva are very complex characters with compelling backstories told between alternate timelines and perspectives. However, this is not as fast paced of a thriller as I had anticipated. There is a lot of introspection instead of action. Despite not being on the edge of my seat, the twists and turns are surprising and unexpected and kept my interest until the end. I enjoyed The Last Flight and would recommend it to those who enjoy a thriller with a slow burn.

4/5 stars

Two women meet at an airport, each is trying to escape their lives. They decide to switch plane tickets to help in their disappearance. One of the planes crash. This is one of the best books I’ve read in awhile. I don’t want to give anything away so please read this book, you won’t be disappointed.

Claire is running from her life and an abusive wealthy husband. Eva is running away from mistakes. When they meet at the airport it only seems the perfect solution is to swap plane tickets. A plane crash killing all survivors on its way to Puerto Rico makes the world aware that Claire is dead but really she is in California assuming Eve's identity. She is leaving one set of problems for another. In a world of female driven thrillers this is one plot I don't think we have seen reworked a dozen times. Clever and full of unexpected twists, this is a thriller for readers who love smart women exacting justice. My thanks to the publisher for the advance copy.

The Last Flight by Julie Clark is going to be the thriller of the summer!! Two women that are strangers have a chance meeting in an airport bar and switch identities to give them each a chance to disappear. This fast paced story along with the dual plot lines definitely pulls the reader right in. Fingers crossed that this becomes a series on Netflix!

A very intellectual and creepy story. I loved it. And I was rooting for both women in different ways. Brilliant. A fantastic story line x

The Last Flight by Julie Clark was outstanding! Claire is married to Rory Cook, an abusive and powerful man. He is getting ready to announce his run for senator. She has been planning to escape him for the past year. When her plan falls apart at the last minute she doesn't know what to do. She had planned to escape to Canada when she flew to Detroit for an event her husband had planned for her. He cancels her trip the day of and tells Claire she will instead be going to Puerto Rico for hurricane relief. She has a chance encounter at the airport with Eva, a woman who is also looking to disappear. They impulsively decide to switch plane tickets and take each other's flights. Claire is headed to Oakland, CA and Eva is headed to Puerto Rico on Claire's flight. When Claire gets to Oakland she finds out the Puerto Rico plane crashed, killing everyone on board. This makes Claire feel guilty because Eva was on the plane in her place, but it's perfect. Now her abusive husband will think she's dead. However, all is not well in Oakland. It seems Eva had a dark past and someone was after her. Now that Claire is in Eva's house she is in danger also. The story is told in alternating chapters from Claire (present day) and Eva (starting 6 months before the crash). I read this book so fast because I couldn't stand to put it down. I loved the characters, especially Eva. Please do not miss this book! It is one of my favorite reads of the year. Thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for the advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Who hasn't fantasized about leading a different life or trading places with another? For Eva and Claire, a chance encounter at an airport has them doing just that. Their decision, however, is a desperate one made on the spur of the moment. Eva and Claire are from very different backgrounds and social strata, but what they do share in common is a need to escape dangerous circumstances that have them literally running for their lives. Each will have to rely on their wits and limited resources to outrun the past. Can these women assume new identities that will ensure them a new start and safe future?

Told in their alternating voices and in cliff-hanging chapters, The Last Flight had me rooting for each of them to succeed. The book's many twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat turning pages at a breathtaking clip to the story's conclusion.

Suspenseful and Page-Turning!

This book reminded me of that movie with Gwyneth Paltrow, Sliding Doors.

Two women that bump into one another at an airport bar decide to switch places. Both of them are facing similarly bleak situations and in one fateful moment, they decide to make that switch. What will happen next?

I really, really loved the concept of this book. It was very gripping and dramatic. I couldn't stop reading late into the night. Those are the best kinds of books! I would recommend this to psychological thriller fans, particularly fans of Girl on the Train or Gone Girl. This isn't a "read-a-like" but it does have a similar feel to those books.

What a ride. This book kept me up into the wee early hours with my heart racing. I couldn’t put it down. Two strong female main characters in a world driven by male dominance. How far would you go to disappear from your life and begin again? Claire and Eva swap plane tickets in a “chance” meeting in the airport bar in the hopes to escape from their tormented realities. What happens next will keep you on the edge of your seat as this tale unfolds.
