Apparently I’m on a #metoo kick right now (unintentionally) having just read The Night Swim right before this. I would say this book is a lot more subtle in that respect though and touches on physical abuse instead of rape.

I was really intrigued by the premise of two women wanting to escape their lives and deciding to switch tickets, then finding out one of the planes crash leaving one woman to figure out the secrets of the other potentially dead woman. Very mysterious. The flipping POVs in this book was very clear to follow- Claire was always in the present and Eva was all in the past. I felt like the pace was good and kept me engaged.

The author made a good point in the back of the book that a lot of female-driven suspense novels popular these days portray an unreliable narrator or kind of a crazy woman type of thing and so she wanted to write something with a strong, smart, kind, rational, normal-I guess, female characters. I noticed that and appreciate it. She proved that you can still write a decent book without dysfunctional main characters! I also appreciated the theme of female friendship. It’s refreshing when a female character who is struggling through something has a reliable and genuine female friend- not a romantic interest (male or female)- to help her on her journey. True friendships are really downplayed in suspense novels, obviously sometimes for good reason, but I think in this book it added a lot to the likability of the story and characters to not fall back on romantic feelings to get them through the day.

One thing I was a bit disappointed by was what I felt was a missed opportunity to add more action towards the end as Claire’s ‘disappearance’ starts to unravel. I thought the author was gonna go there but then within a paragraph the danger immediately dissipated and it wrapped up fairly quickly. Overall I liked how it ended, but wish she would have added an extra few scenes of dangerous peril with Claire’s story before it came to a close. Because of that and the few to frequent F-words, gave this a 4 star rating.

Fantastic! Brilliant! Compellingly Thrilling and twisty! I loved every second of this book. Julie Clark blew me away with this intricate story. I think we've all thought of what it would be like to disappear and become someone else...Well, get ready for a ride. From lavish Fifth Avenue and Clare meets Eva at the airport and from that point the trajectory of their lives changes in ways they never thought. A fascinating tale you wont put down. Highly recommended! 5 stars!

It's been a few days since I finished this one and I still dont' know how I feel about it...it's got a few twists ad turns...it's got a little bit of action and touch decisions. It' snot an edge of your seat have to keep turning pages, but it is a very satisfying book that I'm really glad I read.

A very well crafted story of two women coming from different backgrounds who meet briefly and change each other's lives forever. Claire Cook is an intelligent and accomplished individual married into one of the wealthiest families in the world. She seems to have a perfect life enjoying the things that her husband's money can bring her. All she has to do is work on various projects that benefit many people and obey her husband. The fly in the ointment is that her husband has turned into an abusive tyrant who insists on complete obedience from her or he will physically beat her up. Eva is the other woman involved in the story. Through circumstances beyond her control she has drifted into the life of a drug dealer. Her knowledge of chemistry combined with a need to make a living has forced her into a position that places her on the wrong side of the law.
Both Claire and Eva come together as both are fleeing their current lives and trying to disappear completely. They meet at an airport bar where Claire is to fly to Puerto Rico and Eva to Oakland, California. The women end up telling the other about their desire to escape their lives and start again. It strikes them while talking that changing identities will throw those that are looking for them completely off the track. And, since each has their boarding pass in hand the change is accomplished. Certainly just this action will enable a good story to emerge. However, it is complicated by a plane crash to Eva's plane as it flies to Puerto Rico.
Ms. Clark tells the story via the use of rotating first person narratives involving both the women, but also persons that are of interest to the tale. It is an engrossing, well done novel with the ending completely logical but not telegraphed in the reading. Character portraits, thoughts, doubts and problems arising are as well done as it has been my pleasure to read. A five star book that after conclusion will project a desire on the part of reader toward following the author and obtaining her future novels as they emerge.

I always have reservations when it comes to books written by authors I haven't tried before.
I don't usually read reviews before starting a book because I like to blindly dive into it that will either "wow" me or make me regret even picking it up. More often than not, it'll be just okay.
But this one, OMG, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I believe this will be one of my best reads this year. Congratulations in advance Ms. Julie Clark. This will be a blockbuster once it's out. :)

It started with Claire planning her "disappearance" to escape the abusive relationship. Everything goes awry at the last minute and then we meet Eve, a woman who is as desperate to escape the circumstances of a difficult life. What follows is a story about two brave women, who are both very likable and well-developed.

One of the things I loved about this book was Eve and Liz's friendship. It's one of the purest and heart-warming story you won't expect to be embedded in a Thriller book. In this world, we won't find someone who will accept you, flaws and all. You'll have a few people here and there, people who you'll learn to love and trust but at the end of the day, only the ones who stays, will matter. Anyway, back to the story..

The connection between Eve and Claire is a punch-in-the-gut revelation, but will make you feel relieved.
Also, with books that involves abuse, you know one way or another, there will be a fair ending, though the Epilogue made me feel so sad.

What I'm trying to say is, that this book is one those that just fall into place.
The one that will make sense in the end.
The one that will make you search for other books written by the same author.
The one that will let you hit that "Follow Author" on Goodreads.

Thank you so much NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for giving me an ARC of this book.
And thanks to the Author, for writing this beautiful story that tackles one of the most controversial issue today. I believe this is an IMPORTANT book, especially in the #MeToo era.

Claire is married to a wealthy philanthropist and appears to have a perfect life in NYC, but the reality is that he is abusive and she has been making a plan to leave him during a business trip to Detroit. That doesn't work out when he abruptly decides to handle the meeting in Detroit and sends her to Puerto Rico. At the airport, Claire encounters Eva, who for unknown reasons is also looking to leave her life behind, and they trade boarding passes. Claire flies to Oakland, CA and assumes Eva's identity, and Eva seems to board the flight to Puerto Rico, which ends up crashing off the coast of Florida. Once in Oakland, Claire starts to uncover what Eva was running from and needs to stay on her toes to make sure her husband doesn't find out she is alive and come after her.

I thought this book was great. I had a hard time putting it down. It alternates between Claire in the current day and Eva's life prior to going on the run. I felt like I really understood both woman and how they ended up where they were. At first, I thought it was way too much of a coincidence that these two women would run into each other in the airport, but that was all explained at the end. I thought everything wrapped up really well. I would definitely read more from this author.

In this day and age of ramped up technology, is it possible for someone to truly disappear? Would it be possible for two people to change identities? These are the basic premises of The Last Flight and it will take you on a wild ride.

The two main characters, Claire and Eva, are very different but also have two important things in common: they each lead very isolated lives and want to change them.

Ms. Clark does a wonderful job in character development, both with Claire and Eva, and also with the primary men in their lives. There were a couple moments when you have to suspend belief, but that was ok with me.

Without revealing any spoilers, the ending (and last quarter of the book) was exciting and reasonable. It wasn’t exactly as I would have liked it to end, but it still worked well. The Last Flight will make a great movie, by the way!

Two women, Claire a congressman's wife who's husband is abusive and Eva who is running from a Drug Lord, she is also desperate to disappear. By chance they meet at a NY airport. The one headed is headed to Oakland the other to Puerto Rico, Since they're both fearing for their lives, in desperate need of a new identities, they come up with a plan, to change places, they decide to swap tickets.
The plane headed for Puerto Rico crashes, everyone on board is dead. Everyone assumes its Claire that was on that flight and so she's the one considered dead.
Only Claire knows that it wasn't her on that flight.
Now she must try and take on Eva's identity while staying under the radar so that no one recognizes her and her husband comes looking for her.
I flew through this book and was absolutely hooked from page one.

Unfortunately, this book did not wow me. The two main characters were really well fleshed out but I could not connect with either one. How their tragic stories converge was interesting but I just found the story line to be so so. I would recommend because the way the two women find a way out of their lives was very interesting to me.

Though I found Claire's ending a little soft, I really enjoyed the jumpy little breadcrumbs placed strategically throughout the rest of the story.

The Last Flight is one of the most thrilling books I’ve read in a long while. Rich, well developed characters and a solid, well thought out plot take you on a wild journey as these two women swap places, each one running from her own demons and expecting a happy result. A well-written, suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat thriller that will leave you breathless at times in anticipation of the next twist in the plot. Don’t start reading this book if you are not prepared to stay up all night as you follow these two women through the events that lead to its surprise ending.

It is an interesting look into the question of whether in this digital age, where we are constantly monitored, can one ever really leave their past behind?

The Last Flight is the story of Eva and Claire, two women in untenable positions, who find in each other a way out. But when fate gets in the way, a split-second decision turns out to bring more consequences than even they could have guessed.

That's the premise of Last Flight, and most of that occurs in the first few chapters. It's then that we delve into the why of it all - who are these women, and what could have pushed them to this point? Told in alternating chapters (and timelines), what looked black and white initially quickly murks into shades of grey, and the type of situations that feel all too plausible despite the high stakes.

Both characters are easy to like, whatever you think of their life choices - Julie Clark has done an excellent job of providing each of them with a unique voice, but keeping them in harmony to gel the two into a chorus for the novel. Never did anything feel unreasonable or too much; instead, I was pulled along through this story at breakneck pace. And it wasn't the usual feeling that books of this genre give me - impatience at wanting to get through the fluff to just find out what happened - no, this wasn't using story to delay a payoff, but instead the story was the payoff.

It's a thoroughly enjoyable book, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

First thing: read this book.

Even if you’ve read a ton of female driven suspense #metoo books recently and are tired of the narrative, READ THIS BOOK ANYWAY. (Also read The Night Swim by Megan Goldin already voted a RSR book club pick of 2020)

Claire has been planning in secret to escape her abusive husband who is from a powerful political family. She has planned it down to the detail until a last minute change of plans by her husband forces Claire into the ultimate course of destiny. When she meets Eva in line at the airport, Claire and Eva hatch a plan to exchange their destinations.

We only requested The Last Flight by Julie Clark because we’d received several book club questions about it and the buzz they’d been hearing. Several want to make it their June book club read, so we decided to dig in and SUPER THANKFUL we did.

The book unfolds so well that I personally would stop, fix my coffee or tea, ponder the circumstances I’d just read and what they could mean. I was never confused at the back and forth between Claire and Eva because it written so well.

I loved this book! The suspense was so enthralling I couldn’t wait for the next opportunity to pick it up. I have no doubt it’ll be a huge summer book of 2020 for all the clubs!

The story revolves around Claire Cook who’s trying to escape her abusive husband, Rory Cook. Rory comes from old money and is currently running for senate.

So she devises a plan with the help of her childhood friend, Petra Federotov, whom she accidentally ran into at a gym. Petra’s brother, Nico also helps procure a fake ID with a new identity for Claire.

But how can she plan a successful escape when virtually all her husband’s staffs—from the maid to Rory’s personal assistant—are fiercely loyal to him and can report any slightest activity back to him?

Claire was scheduled for an event in Detroit and had Petra ship the items she would be needling to make her escape—passport, forty-thousand dollars cash, fake ID and so on—to the hotel she would be staying at. But by rotten luck, Rory changes her itinerary last minute; Claire would be heading to puerto Rico instead while Rory would be headed to Detroit.

At the airport, Claire calls the hotel in Detroit to find out if a package had arrived for her. When she learns it had and that Rory had picked it up, she becomes frantic with worry. Immediately she calls Petra to share her concerns and they both come up with a quick plan to salvage the situation.

Unbeknownst to Claire, a woman named Eva James who ws standing next to her at the airport overheard their conversation. Apparently Eva is on the run as well. She sees this opportunity to trade tickets with Claire.

The story is told from the POV of Claire and Eva. This is just one of those books that pulls you in immediately and you have to keep reading to find out what happens. Overall, a good read. Would recommend.

I really enjoyed this book! I loved the two main characters, Claire and Eva, and the dual narratives. The author did a great job of telling each woman's story and in a way that made me feel like I knew the characters and I genuinely cared about each woman. I could not stop reading until I reached the last page because I had to know what happened with Claire and Eva! Although, I have to mention that I hated to reach the end, because I could have happily kept on reading. I am definitely eager to read more from Julie Clark!

The Last Flight had me hooked from the very beginning. It weaves together the stories of Claire and Eva before and after a fateful day at JFK and a tragic plane crash. One story line tells of the escape and the aftermath of escaping while the other tells what a young woman is running from— what would cause her to leave the life that she knew behind.

The undercurrents of female friendship, the #metoo movement, and empowerment to step out from the shadows made this more than your traditional thriller. The author really makes you feel for the two narrators and put yourself in their shoes and imagine the decisions you would make if faced with the same situation.

I recommend The Last Flight. It’s an intriguing page turner that keeps you hooked until the very last page.

Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC and an honest review...

Two courageous women Claire and Eva need to shed their old lives and disappear. This book tells the story of what happens when by chance their lives intersect. Told alternately the story reveals what happens when each becomes the other. A very satisfying and suspenseful book.

I requested this one because the plot seemed interesting, not knowing much about it, or honestly expecting much. To my surprise, I was hooked after the first few chapters! I was instantly pulled in, wanting to learn about Claire and Eva's troubles and what they were running away from. Julie Clark wrote these characters perfectly. I felt so strongly for both of them and desperately wanted things to work out in their favor. The twists in this one were great. I did not see a lot of it coming and the ending was brilliantly and beautifully written. The underlying themes of the #metoo movement, feminism, and female friendship were great additions to the story that really strengthened it's hold on my heart and made it more than just a simple thriller/suspense story.

I highly recommend The Last Flight! I think this will be one of those books we'll be seeing a lot of this year. I definitely will be keeping an eye out for more of Clark's work in the future. She deserves lots of praise for this one!
