It’s been a WHILE since a book had me HOOKED and on the edge of my seat and so completely engrossed. Two women escaping bad situations (TW for domestic abuse) meet in an airport and trade tickets to trade lives, and it makes for suuuuuch a good story that kept surprising me.

This was a solid fast paced thriller with a uniquely interesting plot and alternating timelines. It kept me reading from the start although there were a few dull spots. I would like to have had more suspense as well. I would try more books from this talented author.

This was a well written and intriguing story of two women wanting a different life. Both were strong likable characters and the plot had some good twists.
Really enjoyed it.

This was a very suspenseful thriller! I couldn’t put this book down because I needed to know how the storylines intertwined and I didn’t guess any of the twists! I loved that Claire and Eva were strong and reasonable women. I felt equally invested in both their storylines because they were so realistic. It has been a good year for thrillers, and I definitely recommend adding this to your TBR!⁣

The last flight is awesome, and has left me with a serious book hangover. I have been seeing this one for months, wasn’t quite sure what it was about, but decided to give it a shot based on the glowing reviews.

If you aren’t sure what this one is about, basically two women in crisis meet at the airport and decide to switch tickets and escape their terrible situations that they have ended up in life.

I noticed recently, I’ve been reading a lot of books where female friendship takes a big role, and I’m really enjoying seeing all the authors who were inspired by the me too movement.

I don’t want to spoil anything, so I will keep this brief. It’s fantastic! Go read it, and then message a book friend, this is one you will want to discuss after. It left me wanting to reread it as well.

Remember when every book was being compared to Gone Girl for a little while? Well this really did bring me Gone Girl vibes.

I highly recommend this book to mystery fans, Gone Girl lovers, and those looking for a quick engaging read.

This was the best thriller I’ve read in a long time! It was fast-paced and kept me turning the pages from the very beginning to the very end.

I’m a big fan of domestic thrillers, but this one was unique as it focused on the actual escape. I also liked that Claire’s point of view was in the present while Eva’s was in the past. I will be recommending this one to everyone!

Two women from two very different lifestyles are both fleeing their lives in a desperate attempt to get away and start over, to disappear.

Claire Cook seems to have to all, married to a wealthy and influential philanthropist with political aspirations, she has a staff of at least ten to wait on her (and watch her every move). Unfortunately, her husband’s money and power also convince people to turn a blind eye to rages and violence towards Claire.

Eva James, brought up in a group home after her drug addicted mother terminated her parental rights, finds herself to be a talented chemist while attending Berkeley but finds that her gift may also be her downfall. Ever the survivor, Eva takes an opportunity from a stranger and uses her talent in ways that lead her into darker places and danger.

This is an interesting novel about women, the choices they make and the choices that are made for them. When there is no knight in shiny armor and no happily ever after, both Eva and Claire decide to take control and change the narrative to varying degrees of success. The timeline splits from the moment the women exchange boarding passes, Claire plummets forward into Eva’s old life as Eva’s story unfolds in the months and days leading up to the crash.

The story is told with enough detail and paranoia to keep the reader guessing while trying to piece together certain parts of the story.

This book has gotten a lot of hype prior to next week’s publication date and I can see why. Centered around two women meeting by chance, or was it.

Claire Cook is married into a prominent public family and her husband is about to announce his run for Senator. There is a major issue, her husband is abusive to her. Claire, is planning on her escape and with the help of two well connected high school friends, she is very close.

When we meet Eva James, we know very little of her. She meets Claire at the airport and due to unforeseen complications to Claire’s travel, they exchange places. Claire will go to Oakland and Eva will go Puerto Rico and they will trade identities.

When Claire lands in Oakland there is one problem, the plane with Eva has crashed and their are no survivors. You would think that would be in her favor, but this really sets up the one crazy ride.

Told in two Point of Views. Claire after the crash, and Eva in the month’s leading up to the crash. Up until the last quarter, I would have never guessed the ending, but Clark does give great clues throughout. She also happens to leave one surprise to the very last sentence.

This was a really great thriller. The story moved extremely fast. The alternating time lines add a nice layer of complexity. This is a thriller that I will be recommending all summer.

The Last Flight is a super well done thriller! The plot is so unique and I definitely did not see all the twists coming... especially at the end! Would love to see this made into a movie!

Claire is the wife of a philanthropist with political dreams -- who also has been abusing her. She's tried to leave him, but he's reeled her back in. Now she's ready to disappear; she has false documents waiting for her at a hotel where she is staying while on a business trip. And then her husband decides that he'll go to that event and she will go to another one in Puerto Rico.

While at the airport, Claire meets Eva, a woman who is heading home to Berkeley, and they realize that they both want to start new lives where no one will find them. They switch boarding passes and head in separate directions. And then the plane to Puerto Rico goes down with no survivors.

Did Eva get on that flight? Will Claire begin a new life in safety...and how will she do it with no papers and no money? There are moments in this book that will make you gasp and moments you really wish would (or wouldn't!) happen. It is a story that will make you think and try to figure out how you would do it if you wanted to disappear, too.

Sooo good! Clare is married, unhappily, to Ryan, a high flying politically connected abuser. She's desperate to leave him and after careful planning with the help of her only friend, is set to go until...Ryan changes her itinerary. Eva is also on the run. She's an expert chemist who has been making drugs and has come to the attention of law enforcement. She's less worried about that than she is about what her employers will do. These two switch identities at Newark airport, with Eva heading to Puerto Rico and Clare back to Berkley, where Eva lived- but she has no clue of Eva's problem. Then the plane crashes. This moves back and forth in time-and alternates between Clare and Eva. Eva's story is slower to emerge (Clare's is obvious up front). No spoilers from me for this one, which is a real page turner. These two women are wonderful characters who you will find yourself rooting for, in part because both of them are so alone in much of their lives, although Eva develops a relationship with Liz before the crash. There's a twist near the end and then there's the end itself. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is a real page turner that I very much enjoyed,. Excellent read.

I couldn’t put this book down and read it a second time to pick up on all the clues and turns I might have missed the first time. Engrossing, hopeful, and poignant, this is a perfect book for anyone who wants to escape into an engrossing read. I’ve had trouble recently getting into books and keeping focus, and it was such a pleasure to find something that kept hold of my attention. The author captures the two women at the heart of the book perfectly. We understand their predicaments and root for a positive outcome without getting bogged down in backstory. Secondary characters feel flushed out even without spending much time on the page. The ending resonated with me and has stayed on my mind. Definitely an author I will anticipate reading more of!

I. Loved. This. Book. Eva & Claire are both looking to escape their lives and have one chance to do so. This book had me guessing throughout the entire duration, which is something I love in a story. When everything finally came together in the end, I was truly surprised by the twists and the connections between characters. I flew through this book in just under 24 hours - I had to know what happened! Thanks for writing such a masterpiece of a novel, Julia Clark!

I really enjoyed the intricacies of this story, it was developed well and the characters were dynamic.
There were times when the story felt a bit unrealistic, far fetched but the entertainment value override those feelings.

The writing style is easy to digest, the plot line was clear and overall I truly enjoyed the adventure that this book took me on.

I'd been in the mood for a thriller/mystery for a while and this perfectly fit the bill. Readers get to peer into the very different, yet very similar, lives of Eva and Claire, unraveling the mysteries of what led them to make the decisions they did. I couldn't bring myself to put this down!

This book kept me turning pages well into the night. I appreciated how the two women at the heart of the narrative were both strong and resourceful in their own ways. This is an excellent entry into the domestic suspense genre and an easy choice for fans of AJ Finn and Sheri Lapena.

3.5 stars. This was an enjoyable, fast paced read that had elements of suspense but was also an interesting character study of the lives of the 2 women who switched places at the airport. It explore what led them both to that moment and the consequences. The author did a fine job building the back story of each woman and developing the plot lines. I liked the main setting in Berkeley CA and the description of life on and around campus also. This is recommended if you like a touch of suspense not also appreciate fine character studies.

I'm lucky to have gotten on a string of great thrillers lately and this one didn't disappoint. In fact, thriller isn't quite the right label for it. It's a super suspenseful mystery, weaving together the stories of two very different women. Claire and Eva meeting in an airport bar. Both desperate to escape their lives, they swap plane tickets. But when one of the planes crashes, things become even more complicated. The writing is sharp, the alternating timelines transition smoothly, revealing backstory while continuously building the suspense. The story touches on heavy subjects, domestic violence, drug abuse, sexism, and grief. Both women are strong protagonists, which I appreciated. Neither is a villain, as it seems is so common in thrillers. This is a compulsive read that proves things are not always as they appear on the surface.

The Last Flight is everything you want in a book! A gripping story of suspense; haunting, vulnerable characters; and a chilling ending that stays with you long after the last page. This thrilling story of two desperate women that will do anything to escape from their lives. The Last Flight is a well-written fast-paced thriller! A must-read of the summer.

This book deserves 100 stars. I found it so engrossing I read it cover to cover . I highly recommend this book for all who enjoy suspense fiction reading about strong women charcters. This was a outstanding read so well crafted to the two charcters both of who this reader liked from the start. Clare is a strong women enduring a loveless marriage to a high powered monster who abuses her behind closed doors. Eva is a equally strong women surviving a life of hard knocks that has now endangered her life working for a high power drug dealer she cannot escape from. Both women are educated,, strong and savvy as they plan their escape from their lives. When their lives collide at a airport both make split second decisions to switch boarding passes. The suspense begins as the story is told chapter by chapter from their perspectives of each step of their new lives.

I loved this book and each charcter as they attempt to rebuild their fractured lives. . The author does a great service in how she portrays each woman not as a victim but as a survivor. They are great examples of the strength of women and how we rise again to begin life anew from impossible circumstances. The author brilliantly tells each story from their perspective including how each plans to move forward. I was unable to part with this book until completion and consider it one of the best books I have read this year. Its well written, exciting and captured my attention from cover to cover. The perfect read !
