Interesting and twisty, I found the pace too slow and the unravelling of Natalie's past more telling than showing. It's entertaining enough to keep you turning pages to discover how it ends.

I received a digital arc of this from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a hard read for me. The chapters were much longer than is usual for these kind of books, and a large portion of the story was set in the past. It is a dual perspective book as well as two different timelines. The whole story felt very slow and stilted for me, after the initial discovery of the fire. I did however like the twist at the end of who Natalie really is. The last page of the book almost leaves an unanswered question of the note and what will come from it. Not bad but not the best I've read in this genre.

This author is new to me, but she writes well. A twisty psychological thriller, with plenty of tension, and a shocker of an ending. Recommended..

This psychological thriller was an enjoyable read. It’s full of twists and turns throughout to keep you on the edge of your seat. The twist at the end was so unexpected, you don’t see it coming. The style of writing was great as it made such an easy read. The first book I have read by this author and I will keep my eye out for more in the future.

The story is mainly about 2 sisters and their men. They are as different as chalk and cheese and the younger is extremely selfish, the sort who always wants her own way and is very unlikeable. It starts brilliantly with a house fire and grips the reader instantly with some murky goings on, secrets and revenge. A wonderful domestic thriller with plenty of action guaranteed not to send you to sleep - I loved it!

A page turner from the start The Second Wife tells the story about Alex, his daughter Jade and Natalie. His first wife left Alex and Jade when Jade was only five years old. One night Alex comes home and finds his house ablaze and firemen rescuing Jade from the flames. Natalie has made it out of the house on her own and swears that she couldn't get to Jade and help her. Jade goes to the hospital and when she finally wakes from the coma she tells Alex about a man. A man she has seen around a few times. Always watching and jade is sure, this man was in the house. Alex sets out to find this man and when he does, he also finds out his wife Natalie is not who she says she is and she has a lot of secrets. Well written, enjoyable thriller!

Everyone brings baggage to a new relationship...but this is on a whole other level!

After the death of his first wife to cancer, Alex Carmichael finally met the woman of his dreams. Natalie is beautiful, smart and appears to be the perfect wife and stepmother to his daughter Jade. Their life in Brighton is perfect and Alex and Natalie couldn't be happier.

One evening, Alex stays late for drinks with a client and returns to find his house on fire. Natalie is unhurt though dazed but there is no sign of Jade. He bursts into the burning building to rescue his unconscious daughter before carrying her outside to safety, barely alive. When 14 year old Jade wakes from her coma she tells her father that she saw a man in the house that night although Natalie refutes this, denying any knowledge of an intruder.

Alex then finds himself faced with an impossible choice - to believe his wife or his daughter? He returns to the burnt remains of his house, surprised to find that it was as badly damaged as it at first seemed, and rummages through Natalie's wardrobe looking for answers. He comes across a box of items belonging to someone called Rachel and a photo in which the woman closely resembles his wife and the man beside her looking decidedly shifty. Now Alex has even more questions. Who is Rachel? Who are the people in the photo? What has this all have to do with his wife and what secrets is she keeping?

Natalie has always been controlled, keeping things close to her chest. She has a past that Alex doesn't know about and when he approaches her with questions and that wretched photo she should have thrown away, she has no alternative to tell him about her past and who she really is.

1999: Rachel lives in a London flat with her younger and free-spirited sister Sadie. Their parents are both dead and from early on Rachel took it upon herself to look after and look out for Sadie. The sisters had grown up inseparable but upon reaching her teens, Sadie morphed into someone different...staying out late, drinking and taking drugs.

One day, the sisters meet the charismatic Kaspar Kashani, who is promoting his new nightclub, and Sadie is instantly taken with him. Rachel knows there is something off about him but Sadie refuses to listen to her reservations and goes to the new club. There she falls in love with Kas and does everything she can to be with him, despite Rachel's warnings.

When things start to get messy and go incredibly wrong, Rachel is there to pick up the pieces of her sister's life once again. But in the process she alienates her even further when she becomes a witness in a trial that will change the course of her life forever. After which, she is given a new identity and a new home away from London to start her life all over again.

Compelling with plenty of twists, I love the way the story is told from several perspectives, including Alex and Natalie, in dual timelines from 1999 and 2017. It keeps you guessing as to exactly what is going on and just who is, or isn't, telling the truth. Although a did find there was a lull when the 1999 narratives began as I wasn't sure where they fit in, it soon picked up pace as the narratives switched back and forth to keep you guessing.

What is the link between Alex and Natalie, and Rachel and Sadie? And who was responsible for the house fire that very nearly claimed Jade's life? Alex is determined to uncover what happened, but is he prepared for the truth?

It is so hard to review THE SECOND WIFE without giving anything away. While at first I was puzzled, the plot soon became obvious and I predicted what was coming from about midway through. But that did not impact on my enjoyment because it is still a wonderfully twisty read that keeps you hooked until the very end.

THE SECOND WIFE is a dark tale of secrets, lies and a twisted obsession that is thrilling, intense, dangerous and addictive. It is like a car crash that you find yourself unable to look away, turning the pages to discover the truth and what Natalie has been hiding.

My first book by Rebecca Fleet, THE SECOND WIFE gripped me from the beginning and I found myself invested deeply in Alex and Natalie's story and wanting to uncover the truth. So many whispers of doubt alluded to things not adding up and I suspected the truth in part from early on, while the rest fell into place a little later. The clues were peppered subtly throughout which made uncovering them a little victory for me each time.

A book riddled with chameleon characters, secrets, lies and obsession made this fast paced domestic thriller a must read for any thriller fan.

I would like to thank #RebeccaFleet, #NetGalley and #RandomHouseUK and #TransworldDigital for an ARC of #TheSecondWife in exchange for an honest review.

Natalie and Jade were caught in a house fire. Natalie is Alex's second wife and Jade is his teenage daughter. Jade is positive she saw a man in the house just before the fire started but Natalie denies seeing anybody at the house. This is just the beginning. The book moves on to tell the rest of the story in two time frames.
The story is told in the present and past from two sisters perspectives with tales from the very dark and mysterious nightclub and it’s owner Kas.
Everyone is hiding a secret in this book,
Alex is determined to uncover what have happened, but will he like what he finds??

As soon as I started the first few chapters of this book I was 100% engrossed. Each chapter I read kept me wanting more.
A fantastic read from Rebecca Fleet, I cant wait to read more of her work!

New thriller from the author of The House Swap. Like the previous one, this is also a domestic thriller.

It is 2017. Alex is walking home from town, only to find her house burning. His female partner of six months is outside, but Alex` daughter is still inside the house. When she is retrieved, she is in a coma. Maybe because of smoke inhalation. But is there other things behind Jade`s condition? And when Jade wakes up, Alex is left with even more questions.

Told in alternating timelines between 2017 and 1997, this is a page turning read with enough twists and surprises to keep the reader engaged throughout the story. Having read a lot of thrillers like this, I did understand some of the plot before it was revealed, but still an entertaining read.

Thanks to Rebecca Fleet and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Everyone brings baggage to a new relationship.

When Alex met Natalie she changed his life. After the tragic death of his first wife, which left him a single parent to teenage daughter Jade, he’s determined to build a happy family.

But his new-found happiness is shattered when the family home is gutted by fire and his loyalties are unexpectedly tested. Jade insists she saw a man in the house on the night of the fire; Natalie denies any knowledge of such an intruder.

Alex is faced with an impossible choice: to believe his wife or his daughter? And as Natalie’s story unravels, Alex realises that his wife has a past he had no idea about, a past that might yet catch up with her.

But this time, the past could be deadly . . .

This second book for Fleet was just as good as her first! It was very well written and created, and I couldn't get enough.

Alex arrives home after a successful business deal to find his house on fire. His wife Natalie is uninjured and his daughter Jade taken to hospital where she remains in a coma. When Jade wakes up she tells her father there was someone else there the night of the fire. He becomes suspicious of his wife and decides to make his own enquiries.
Rachel is the younger sister to the popular wayward Sadie. She loves her sister but feels trapped by having to look out for her all the time. One of them is mesmerized by a dangerous man and Rachel ends up in witness protection and with a new identity.
When you have suspicions, broken trust and secrets things aren’t going to end well.
There was something about Alex which annoyed me but I cant put my finger on it. Perhaps he seemed more like a female character than a male.
This is the sort of book which reminded me of another yet managed to stand apart on its own merit.
The ending creates an opening for a sequel.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a free digital copy of the book in return for an honest review.

I liked the premise of this novel but for some reason it didn't quite reach my expectations.
This is a story told in the present and in the past to try and explain occurrences. The characters were not quite believable and on the whole dislikeable. The mixture of past and present, with lies and falsehoods did not quite work for me.
The story resolves around Alex and Natalie and the aftermath of a fire started by an unknown man. Alex daughter is hospitalised as consequence and then lies and half truths are exposed.
I found it hard to be absorbed into this novel despite my best attempts. I did finish it but found the ending disappointing - sorry
