Interesting setting for a cozy mystery. Having lived in the DC Metro area, I wouldn't have thought Vienna could feel like a small town. But the characters are endearing and tightly-knit. The main character is likable and her cousin, the nun, is a riot. The mystery was fairly easy to solve, at least getting the suspect list down to 2 or 3. I would have preferred more information about the book binding or action set in the book store. Overall, a solid start to a new cozy series.

This was a light quick, fun read. I enjoyed the writing style and all of the characters. I will most definitely pick up more books by this author. Read this book, it won't disappoint!

I like the play on the title and the author's name. Vienna, VA is the setting for this new cozy mystery. Quinn is back from traveling around the world and has settled into bookbinding. Her best friend and cousin is c,isle at hand as well as her older brother. And his best friend, who is now a detective, Aiden. Sparks fly between the two, especially when Quinn stumbles across the body of local realtor, Tricia. It's a good read, a little slow In places.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this mystery taking place in Vienna, Virginia as I used to live nearby and it was a fun read. I don't want to spoil the mystery but I hope there is more in the series and who doesn't like a series with a pet named after Chief Justice Ginsburg! Also her family runs a bookstore! Pick it up for a happy read!

Right away I knew I was going to like Vienna, Virginia and that started with connecting with Quinn Caine. She had just moved back from teaching English abroad, and well we just clicked. Working in a bookstore, traveling abroad, and her dog...it just seemed this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. As I was helping her drop dog food off at the abbey...we were interrupted by Tricia Pemberley. She and Quinn went to high school together, and neither she nor her twin sister Trina would be what you called friendly...actually they seem to be quite the opposite. Tricia sought Quinn out to announce her engagement to fellow classmate Scott Hauser. Quinn dated him “all of five minutes” her words not mine. Despite this Tricia was convinced that Quinn wanted Scott back, and she was stating her permanent claim. I can assure you... Quinn did not want to reconcile her relationship with Scott...it lasted all of three weeks for goodness sake. Fast forward to later that night...
Quinn’s german shepherd Ruff barker Ginsberg or RGB for short woke both us up in the middle of the night insisting to go out. Quinn was adamant she would go by herself, but what the hey...I was already awake. Should have known nothing good happens after midnight. By nothing good I mean...finding the body of Tricia. So of course Quinn, and I felt an obligation to figure out what happened…..

My thoughts:
I thought this was a really strong first book in a series! I enjoyed the charming small town of Vienna with its community comradery. I was also delighted by the cast of characters we were introduced to. I loved Quinn's cousin/best friend turned nun sister Daria, RBG, hunks Aiden and Bash (Quinn doesn’t like me to say that about her brother, but it’s true), and the clink and drink gals. I know they (the clink and drink ladies) had a very small part, but offer great potential moving forward! The writing was fast paced, and there were plenty of twists and turns in the mystery.
I did think Quinn made some poor decisions, and the outcomes of those decisions were pretty outlandish and unrealistic. The recipes at the end of the book felt out of place and unnecessary.

Cozy fans should check this book out...it’s a barking good time!

To Kill a Mocking Girl is a wonderful debut for this new cozy mystery series by author Harper Kincaid. The book has a well-rounded story with a charming small-town setting, quirky characters, and a puzzling murder to solve.

I liked the characters from the very beginning. Quinn is a unique, intelligent bookworm who returned home after experiencing the adventures of the world. Her cousin, Sister Daria, is a c character that is so much fun. Even though they are cousins their relationship is more like that of sisters. While Daria is a novitiate, she still can be snarky and makes wise cracking remarks. Quinn collects donations of pet supplies for the local shelter and has a German Shepard called Ruff Barker Ginsburg (RBG).

Quinn and Daria try to solve the murder of a former classmate which gets them in some sticky situations. I don't want to give away any spoilers. I highly recommend this cozy mystery to anyone who loves this genre. The author did throw in several twists to keep the reader guessing who the killer is. I am looking forward to reading more about the adventures of Quinn and Daria.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley, which I voluntarily reviewed. All opinions are my own.

Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC; there was so much to love in this new series! Quinn is likeable, smart, and relatable. I thought the supporting cast of characters were real-to-life, and the sense of place is vivid. I'm already looking forward to more in this series.

Overall, I enjoyed this book a great deal. I liked the main character and her family and the way the relationships between them were written for the most part. There were a few minor things that irked me, especially regarding Quinn's relationship with Daria and Quinn's seemingly rare work hours, that probably wouldn't bother others but did make me take the review down a star. The actual mystery kept me guessing and I enjoyed the way the author depicted Vienna - while not exactly true to life, it was well done for this DC resident who usually gets frustrated by depictions of the area.

Cozy mysteries are a bit new for me but I loved every single minute of this book! Checked all my boxes and then some.
Quinn returns home to Vienna to her parents bookstore, Prose and Scones where she'll continue her bookbinding business. Despite her ex fiancé being there with his snotty girlfriend she loves her town, being around her cousin turned noviate nun at the local convent Daria and helping out the sisters by collecting dog food for their kennel. Daria is a hoot and I loved her as much as all the rest of the characters in the story; her brother Bash, detective Aiden (hot hot hot) and the cast of nuns that made up the convent. Last but not least, Quinn's dog RBG. Absolutely loved her.
The book takes off quickly when her ex's fiancé turns up dead and Quinn is the one who finds her. Which makes her immediately suspect. That's where we meet Aiden who is the lead investigator and chief of hotness( in my own wicked mind) in the story. He knows Quinn didn't do it, but still must follow procedure. Daria and Quinn are quick to start their own investigation despite being warned by Aiden to stay out of it. So who killed Tricia, the very unlikable Tricia? Harper's storytelling throughout this book involves a long trail of breadcrumbs which you will quickly follow and try to figure out not just the who, but the how ! Twists galore, great dialogue, a cast of well developed characters and an insanely good plot had me hooked. And no, you didn't see that end coming!
I'm going to need more Bookbinding Mysteries! Stellar read from Harper!

To Kill A Mocking Girl is a fun and fast paced cosy mystery. I loved all the quirky characters, especially Quinn's cousin-turned-nun and Ruff Barker Ginsberg (the GSD). There's also twists and turns in this book that made it more interesting.

I've found a new cozy author to follow! First in a new series, To Kill a Mocking Girl hits all the right notes. It's a fast-paced mystery about Quinn Victoria Caine who has just moved back home to Vienna, VA with her dog Ruff Barker Ginsburg (RBG to friends). Things don't begin well when Quinn stumbles across the body of her ex's new fiance. Things take off from there and we are led through a mystery with a lot of twists and turns.

All sorts of characters pop up throughout the book including Quinn's cousin-turned-nun, a crooked cop, a pair of mean twins, and we musn't forget handsome Detective Aiden Harringtonn, Quinn's lontime crush and her brothers best friend. The book is filled with humor and is fast-paced and very hard to put down. I'm looking forward to see what QVC and RBG get into in their next outing.

Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher for this ARC. All opinions and thoughs are my own. This review can be found on my Goodreads page.

Great first book in this new series by Harper Kincaid. I enjoyed reading this cozy mystery and seeing how Quinn Caine deals with the events. And who doesn't love a German Shepard named Ruff Barker Ginsberg?? I appreciated the movement of the storyline and was hooked to the very end.

Things I love: cozy mysteries and books about books! This first-in-the-series cozy was a lot of fun and Quinn was a relatable and likeable character. There were plenty of suspects to keep things lively and I was never totally sure who the villain was until the end. I look forward to reading more in this series by Harper Kincaid. Many thanks to Crooked Lane for the ARC!

Bookbinding Mystery #1

The first book in a new series is always exciting. This one takes place in Vienna, Virginia.

Quinn Caine is happy to be home in Vienna. She has been teaching overseas for a bit and is now working as a bookbinder in her family business Prose and Scones. She's happy to be home, but not everyone is happy to see her. Old rivalries never seem to die. But this one turns up dead.

The characters are really well done. Her cousin, the nun, is a hoot. And of course, there is a hunky love interest. There were some really good twists and turns and some screw-ups, but Quinn and her friends are my next go-to cozy!

After a few years traveling the world Quinn Caine is back in her hometown working as a bookbinder in her family-owned bookshop, Prose & Scones.
In this first in a series (hopefully) we meet her firefighter brother, her cousin/best friend, her childhood (and current) crush and several more.
In this book Quinn comes across the body of a high school 'friend' while walking her dog, and is determined to find the killer.
I liked the characters and the story and I hope to read more.

This is a fun new cozy mystery full of great characters, and interesting mystery and a charming town. Quinn Caine is a smart, likeable amateur sleuth. The story is engaging, with enough twists to keep things interesting. I love all the quotes and pop culture references. I hope this will be a series.

This is my first cozy mystery and I'm wondering why I've never read one of these before because what didn't I like about it? Right now I'm coming up blank because I enjoyed every single moment of this fast-paced murder mystery set in the small close-knit community of Vienna, Virginia. I can't believe this is Kincaid's first cosy mystery because she had me reeled in from the first page! Is it too early to be chanting for more when this book hasn't even been published yet?

We've got a small town community that quickly feels like home. We've got fierce and adorable doggos with awesome names! We've got a quirky and lovable family that owns and runs the bookstore in town. We've got terribly awesome dad-jokes and wonderful familial relationships that are absolute goals. We've also got some brewing romances that don't take center stage but are present enough for you to feel really invested in. There were also bookish references liberally sprinkled throughout the story and I was here for it! I mean, it's literally everything that I want in a book and I didn't want to put this down for a second.

The story is told through Quinn's perspective and I loved her character. Having lived overseas for several years, she's finally returned home to set down roots with her new dog baby, Ruff Barker Ginsburg (can we pause for a second to appreciate the awesomeness of the name?)! Quinn is a quirky, lovable and intellectual bookworm that has an encyclopaedic knowledge of random facts. She teams up closely with her best friend and cousin, Sister Daria (a novitiate nun) and together they are quite a force to reckon with! Honestly though, I fell in love with all the characters in this book. They were all so well-rounded and fleshed out that it wasn't hard to feel as if I'd known them forever as well. Aiden was a swoon-worthy "hero" and I really wanted to see more of him! Quinn's parents and brother, Bash, were also really lovable and adorable characters! The banter between all of them was perfection--talk about a nerdy family in the best possible way! So many bookish and movie references that were so brilliantly thrown in and I kept wanting more of them.

The mystery was also light and kept me on my toes until the very end. I was so close to guessing the right killer but in the end I was proven wrong--and looking back now, it should've been really obvious who the killer was! LOL

Clearly, I really enjoyed this book and I could go on and on praising it. The characters and their interactions were what really made this for me. It was a well-written cosy mystery that had plenty of enjoyable elements to it, and in my opinion, was a great introduction to this sub-genre. I loved this town, community and family and I can't wait to continue reading this "Bookbinding Mysteries" series!
