Kathy Reichs has Temperance Brennan, coroner, face a Conspiracy of Bones. Complex plot, missing children, bitchy boss all complicate her life. Then her house is torched, phone and computer stolen and her memory compromised. Will she ID the corpse or get her life together?

Kathy Reichs is one of my absolute favorite authors. Her stories take me away and into another world. I love that Canada is always present in her novels as well. If you have never read one of her novels you need to start. "A Conspiracy of Bones' is just as amazing as the rest of the series.

I gave this one to my mom

She got to read it before it came out. She has read Kathy Reich books forever.

I am planning on reading her books

Absolutely fantastic book as always. Plenty of action to keep you guessing as to what comes next. You become completely absorbed in the characters. Loved it.

It is a few months since I read this book. It was certainly not up to her usual standard and I am a big fan of hers. Slow to start, not a lot of intriguing buildup, or even forensic investigation. But I will still look forward to her next book.

Loved diving back into the world of Bones. This was my first experience with the book series and I can’t wait to start from the beginning

This is another book about forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. She is grieving the loss of her boss. She gets assigned to work with a new department head who turns out to be a problem. Her new case is someone who’s face has been chewed off making ID difficult. The new boss is unethical and makes trouble for Tempe. Recovering from her aneurysm, Tempe finds it hard to figure out what is real or hallucinations.

An unidentified, faceless corpse, government conspiracies, Russian spies, and the reemergence of cold cases involving missing children. Temperance Brennan must put the clues together to find the identity of the unknown man and find out how he fits in with all of the other pieces. But someone wants to stop her and it's not just the begrudging medical examiner who is determined to keep Temperance out of the investigation at all costs.

I enjoyed the relationship between Temperance and Skinny Slidell as well as her inner monologues, which were quite entertaining at times. The mystery had a good resolution, although I was a bit disappointed in a couple aspects, which I won't list because they would be spoilers.

Having never read any of the books in this series it did work well as a stand-alone. Some relevant background was given when previous events were mentioned, and while I could tell there were previous relationships built up between some of the characters, it wasn't confusing or awkward.

Thank-you to NetGalley and the publisher for my advanced reader copy.

I struggled to really immerse myself in this book. Perhaps it's because I loved the show Bones so much, and the books and show never align completely (like a printer that's off just a tad and leaves an odd echo image). Perhaps because I'm aware of the rivalry between the author and another, Patricia Cornwell. Whatever the reason, some of the enjoyment just wasn't there. The story was sound, the characters real enough, but there were a few things left unexplained that bothered me.
All in all, not a bad book, just not my favourite by the author.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me an ARC in exchange for my review.

3 Stars (I received an e-arc from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review)

I have read all the books in the Temperance Brennan series and all of Kathy Reichs books. This one however felt different and I struggled to get into this book. While reading it, I was enjoying the book but once I put the book down it was difficult to pick it back up. I don’t think that the author has used conspiracy theories to this extent in her books and Slidell can be a bit much to handle (haven’t read the series in a while). We did get some some Andrew Ryan in person for a little bit, their banter as a couple is still one my favourite things to read in the series. This also the first time that I remember figuring out the direction of the plot quite a bit before the end. I may re-read the series soon to see what I remember from the previous books.

This was the first book by Kathy Reichs that I have read. Also, I haven't watched the tv show 'Bones' so I wasn't sure what to expect. I wasn't keen on the story after reading the first few pages as I don't like reading about murders and body parts. I came back to it after a few days and was hooked into the story.

The story had many twists and turns and got pretty interesting. I enjoy watching crime shows on TV and enjoy learning about the science behind forensics. It was interesting to read about it.

Thank you Netgally and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Kathy Reichs has once again written an exciting page turner. Temperance Brennan is a fascinating character even in her 'diminished state' or perhaps because of it. Really enjoyed the book!

Following Temperance Brennan as Kathy Reichs' Forensic Anthropologist in a series, this book did not disappoint! I love a suspenseful thriller with twists that you don't see coming. And even if you predict some twists, as long as the writing is superb - like Reichs - then the predictability is forgiven.

Welcome back Kathy Reichs, you were missed during your absence and as it's been rumored that your absence mirrors that of Temperance, then I wish you a safe recovery and all the best! I hope you're doing as amazing as your novel is on the charts! (which to me should be top notch!) Cheers!

Thank you Kathy Reichs, Simon & Schuster Canada and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review. Always so grateful for the opportunity to read complimentary books!

I loved this book. I love this series! I love how human Temperance Brennan is. She's not perfect, she has a lot of flaws, and she has the most amazing sixth sense to put herself in unbelievable situations, it's funny in a way that I love. Did I say I loved this? Well... I loved it.

Many thanks to Simon and Schuster Canada for the complimentary e-copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I will admit that I have not read very many of Kathy Reichs' "Bones" books, although I have been known to watch the show a time or two. And perhaps that's exactly why I didn't love this book - the characters in the book didn't line up with the characters in the show and Temperance herself was not at all the same, which meant I spent a lot of the book comparing the TV show Temperance with the novel Temperance, rather than simply enjoying the book.

That being said, if I take the book as a stand-alone novel, unrelated to the TV series, I still didn't love it. The storyline was all over the place, bouncing from a feud with the county medical examiner, to a brain aneurysm, to a possible drugging that was never really resolved, all woven around a possible murder victim who had ties to some missing children who had ties to some internet blowhard. It was hard to follow and many of the bits of action seemed put in just for the sake of it, rather than being necessary to the story or intriguing in any way. In a mystery novel I expect those moments when you realize that something minor that happened three chapters ago was actually a pivotal piece of the story and that just didn't happen here.

Fans of the Bones series will probably like it but it just wasn't for me.

A Conspiracy of Bones by Kathy Reichs is nineteenth in the Temperance Brennan series but it is a definite departure from the usual. Having been a fan of this series, I was disappointed in this book. Tempe Brennan is a forensic anthropologist in Charlotte, North Carolina and also the subject of the popular tv series “Bones”. Tempe has received photos of a faceless and printless corpse from an anonymous source. Who could this victim be and who sent her the photos? Someone had previously been spotted close to Tempe’s home and she believes this body may be him. At this point, this mystery becomes unrealistic, when the forensic anthropologist starts doing the work of a police detective instead of being a scientist. The investigation is confusing and all over the place and our hero is getting into too much trouble. As sometimes happens, an author writes a series past the point of having fresh material. Kathy Reichs is a talented writer and hopefully this is an exception. Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is only my opinion.

This was the first book by Kathy Reichs that I have read. I had a bit of a hard time finding myself hooked because I wasn't used to her style of writing. but I couldn't put it down after about three days. I know there is also a TV series, but have not watched it. But I was told the books are very different from the show. I'm sure both are equally great.
The plot in this book has many twists and turns. Just like Brennan, you wonder what is real and what is the now. The forensics are the most fascinating to me. I definitely will be looking for other books from Kathy Reichs.

I have not consistently followed the Temperance Brennan books, and find that some really are knocked out of the park for me, while others are enjoyable but middle of the road. This one falls into the latter category. In the afterword Kathy Reichs explains dealing with her own health issues and I'm sure that impacted this story. It was an enjoyable read, but not "wow".

I’ve watched all 12 seasons of the show Bones and was(still is) a huge fan! I’ve always wanted to read the series that the show was loosely based of off. I got an ARC version of this book a while ago and finally, got around to reading it. I was glad I did!

I obviously didn’t understand some part of the story as this is the 19th installment of the series and I missed quite a bit of background. I did enjoyed the mystery and Brennan’s personality in the book and also the author’s writing style! Now that I’ve gotten a taste of this series, I think I’m going to go back and start from book 1!
