A Conspiracy of Bones
Temperance Brennan has been sidelined by her current boss who is envious and also upset by Temperance’s calling her out publicly for questionable ethics in releasing information of an ongoing investigation.
One night Dr. Brennan sees a man walking around and follows him but doesn’t find anything before he disappears.
The corpse of a man is found whom she is sure is the same man she followed. While her boss has kept her off the case she manages to get case info and photos sub rosa. And with that she is off and running on her own.
This enjoyable tale maintains the fine story telling by author Kathy Reichs. I will be recommending this latest work to all. ;and so they can learn about zombie ants)
Thanks to the author and NetGalley for this eARC for review purposes.

I've never read a Kathy Reichs book but really enjoyed the writing style and the mystery that was presented in this story. Tempe Brennan was an interesting and fun protagonist to read about and I really enjoyed this story! I loved the questioning of sanity that the narrator went through; I will say that there were a lot of "cliff-hanger" chapters in this book which got to be a little exhausted/predictable as the novel went on and I didn't feel that it always added anything to the story. Overall, a good read.

The Conspiracy of Bones is written in Kathy Reichs excellent style as a forensic anthropologist identifying long buried bones, often method of death, age, sex, race or nationality. Tempe most often helps solve the mystery of death (s). She also work for the Surete' du Quebec in Montreal in the same capacity. ..woven into the story is Andrew Ryan, whom she calls Ryan, a detective for the Montreal Surete' du Quebec. Their paths crossed many years ago becoming romantically involved off and on but do love each other. Tempe loves her vocation not resting untill all the pieces of each skeleton is solved.

I couldn’t get into this book at all.I have always enjoyed this author’s books. This was horrible!!!
The story was thin and confusing and I hate the fact that she is on the outside.
If this was her first book I would not read another!!! Very disappointed.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book. This was my first Reich's book so I was not sure if I could read this stand alone and still understanding what was going on. It was perfect because I definitely did not feel like I was missing out on anything since I had not read any other of the "Temperance" books. I loved the show "Bones" so I knew I had to finally had to read one of her books.

A Conspiracy of Bones in the latest Kathy Reichs book featuring Tempe Brennan. Although I've been reading this series for years, this isn't the best, which doesn't mean that it won't hold your attention.

Temperance is recovering from neurosurgery for an aneurysm, her new boss holds a grudge, someone may be stalking her, and in general, life had been difficult for Tempe.

She gets mysterious pictures of a body with most of his face and his hands missing and no identification. Who sent it?

Her new boss is determined to push her out, but Tempe gets into the morgue and views the body. She disagrees with the new coroner about several things and begins investigating on her own. (The savaging of the body is the result of feral hogs, and just recently a woman in Texas was killed by hogs. They truly are fearsome creatures.)

Teaming up with the cantankerous and acerbic Slidell, Tempe sets out to identify the body, and then to look into the Dark Web at conspiracy theories spouted by the repulsive Nick Body, and into a possible connection to missing children.

There is an interesting afterword about how Reichs came up with elements of her plot, but I had no trouble believing in the feral hogs detail as they are prevalent everywhere in the South and have been moving north as well.

Temperance has gone through many changes through the years She doesn’t seem as strong as she use to be. The story was interesting and had a satisfactory ending. I hope Brennan gets her zen back
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the arc

Brennan is back! Tempe (and Kathy) - we missed you! I’ve been eagerly awaiting the next installment in Kathy Reich’s brilliant Bones series, and it did not disappoint. Brennan and Slidell are prominently featured, and, per usual, the novel takes a strong stance on current events (this time, “fake news”). Also per usual, the book is part science, part mystery, and part thriller (perhaps leaning more heavily to the thriller aspect compared to other books in this series).

While I enjoyed every minute of this book, it did have a lot going on. Some of the themes/topics might have been better saved for Book 20. With the exception of the Fake News theme, it felt like we didn’t go deep enough on any of the highly relevant, supremely important topics (I’m abstaining from listing them here as to avoid spoilers). To be clear, I call this out to be fair to newer readers of the series. For most long-time fans, the joy of being back in Brennan’s world will surely outweigh the topic density.

Overall, a great 19th installment in a masterful series. 4.5 stars, rounded to 5. Can’t wait for the next one!!!!

I loved it! This is one of the best mystery series out there. The story is complex and tense. The back and forth banter between Tempe and the detective, and in her own head, is amusing yet stimulating. The personal ordeals she suffers from in this novel are so distressing that it was a relief to be reassured that her cat wasn't threatened. This author is excellent about including details like that especially when other matters are dark. Superb novel.

I found this book hard to get into. The first few chapters were confusing. But eventually it started to make sense and was interesting. This is the first book about Temperance Brennen I've read and its very different from the tv series "Bones' . There is a totally different cast of characters Once I got into it it was very interesting how she investigates and finds stuff out. I liked how the ending played out, as it would in real life. #A Conspiracy of Bones #NetGalley

4 stars

Dr. Temperance “Tempe” Brennan is beset by health worries, job stress and not a little paranoia lately. Following Larabee's untimely death, the powers that be decide that a new chief be appointed. They hire a woman who is of questionable morals and with an ego as big as the sky. She has frozen Tempe out of the lab.

Someone emails Tempe some photos of a corpse just received in the lab. The poor man has been ravaged by wild hogs and is unrecognizable. He carries no identification. The know-it-all at the lab had proclaimed that the man is Asian and some other factors that Tempe can see from the photos are not correct.

What follows is Tempe's battle with herself and her constant desire to get the facts right and bring justice for this man. She sneaks her way into places and manages to get herself into much trouble, but with the assistance/direction of Detective Slidell puts it all together.

I am divided on this book. For personal reasons, I found the passages in the book about the right wing conspiracy nuts jarring and depressing. I had a very good friend who got wrapped up in a radio personality's rants on these very same subjects (who shall remain nameless, but I'm sure everyone knows his name), and who I subsequently had to cut out of my life for my own sanity. But Ms. Reichs' writing skills have not dimmed at all in the years I have been reading her. The editing is very good and her transitions are flawless. I do so enjoy her books and I am saddened to give this one a less than perfect score, but there it is. More please, Ms. Reichs.

I want to thank NetGalley and Scribner for forwarding to me a copy of this truly great book for me to read, enjoy and review.

A Conspiracy of Bones circles around the death of a faceless man. Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologists, copes with issues beyond her control. She was diagnosed with an aneurysm, a weak spot in a blood vessel wall which is not unlike a ticking time bomb with no time display. Her lover, Ryan, has retired and is working as a private investigator. She witnessed her boss’ death in the previous novel and now is shut out of the Medical Examiner’s Office in Charlotte, NC by his replacement, Dr. Heavner with whom Temperance has a long-standing feud. Retired Detective Skinny Slidell now works for the department on cold cases. Skinny and Temperance work at a fevered pace to connect the pieces of the man’s death to a cabal of men and missing children. It is a hard book to put down.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review. I thank Scribner for the amazing opportunity of reading the new book of Temperance Brennan.

Temperance Brennan's life, professionally, physically and emotionally, is not easy. As the writer (reading the author's note was eye opening and interesting, like always), Brennan has an anerurisma and suffers from headaches, her daughter is in a war zone, her mother has cancer and a new boyfriend (and shares too much of her sexual life), she doesn't know if she wants to live or not with Ryan and, after her previous boss' death, her professional life is obstructed by an old enemy. Temperance life's is again turn upside down when she saw a stranger lurking near her house and when she gets photo from a crime scene. Intrigued by this case, helped by Slidell, Skinny and other friends, Temperance starts an investigation, getting herself involved into a plot regarding missing children, old catastrophes, fake and real conspiracy, while trying to end her professional exile and to set her life on track.

The plot is complex and the main protagonist fights all the time with theories, asking herself what's real, and what's not, fearing her aneurisma and her mental ability. Temperance Brennan is absolutely realistic and human, raw, insecure and brilliant at the same time. I loved reading about her investigation, her discovering and piecing pieces together to the gruesome and, unfortunately, really realistic conclusion. The plot is full of twists and I've learned (like everytime I read a Katy Reichs' book) a lot about various things, the Deep Web, the
livor mortis and the reading was interesting and intriguing.
I couldn't be more happier to have read this book (again), because this book touches a lot of topics, from broadcaster, able to exploit people's fear, pedopornography, disappearances, brilliant discoveries and so on.

Reading about Brennan, battling against self-doubts and questioning herself was absolutely realistic and relatable. She's an amazing and brilliant character and her intellect is fantastic. I loved reading about her relationship with Slidell, who was absolutely funny, colourful and fighting for the truths. Like always, Ryan was the supportive, smart and cheeky boyfriend, even though he wasn't so much present in this book.
It was interesting reading about Brennan's journey, her works, her growing and living with her fears, battling them day by day.
5 stars to this wonderful, intruiging and interesting book.

This felt much more like a thriller than the Temperance Brennan books usually do, which I didn't love. It also had so many connections to current event issues from when Reichs was writing it that it felt a little like the book was just an outlet for her to talk about why "fake news"/conspiracy junkies/etc are bad (which they are, but...). In general, this just really felt like both the story and the characters had a different tone than usual and it didn't really mesh with the rest of the series.

A Conspiracy of Bones by Kathy Reichs, Fans of this series will not want to miss out. From the prolific pen of Reichs comes another Tempe story...

Kathy Reichs has created a wonderful character in Temperance Brennan. Brennan is a medical examiner who splits time between offices in Charlotte and Montreal. This book continues Tempie's journey to solve some of the most difficult murder cases in both locales. Conspiracy of Bones delves into a case of a body found in a remote spot who has had his face and hands and viscera savaged by wild boar- he has no means of being identified.
The course to solving his identity and his murder involves foreign intrigue, an ashram called Sparkling Waters, and many fascinating characters

Always a pleasure to catch up with Tempe, and the latest installment is as twisted and fun as usual, although I must say, that I missed her spending time in Canada this go around. However, her finger on the pulse of all things medical, techy, and trendy, makes the book a joy.

Welcome back, Bones..we have missed you.

Dr. Brennan returns after a hiatus felt by all her readers. It's good to have her back but I must admit I was a little ambivalent about this story line. But as the story progressed I found her character to become more human, questioning her sanity, her abilities and the emotional plus physical damage bombarding her from the death of her colleague and the aneurysm threatening her very existence.

Because, or in spite of that Tempe does not let this deter her in investigating the body of a faceless man with no identity found after being ravaged by feral hogs. With the aid of her good friend, Sliddell and her partner Ryan she does what she does best and never gives up and never forgets the victims, especially the children.

Highly recommended!

Kathy Reichs has created a character that her readers adore. But just when you think she can’t get any better, you are pleasantly surprised. Never content to do things according to the book, Tempe takes giant steps outside the box to solve a very interesting case. Along the way the reader is kept in suspense, surprised, educated, and entertained,

Wow! Another amazing Kathy Reichs book! I have read every Tempe Brennan book she has written and they get better with time. After finishing the book, I enjoyed the acknowledgements and learning why Reichs did not write a book last year. I'd been thinking it's been a while since she released a new book. Again, a fantastic continuation in the series and I cannot wait for the next one. Thank you for the advanced copy.
