I don’t want to just repeat the blurb, so the basic premise is one night Cassie stops on the side of the road to help a woman that is being attacked. Her attacker is not happy about Cassie’s interference and threatens her. Even worse, he steals her car with her purse, keys, personal info, etc. Then the next day her husband Sam disappears while trick-or-treating with their six-year-old daughter, Audrey.

Did I mention that Cassie and Sam’s relationship had been quite strained for a while due to her long hours working as a veterinarian??

Strange things start happening all over the place after Sam goes missing. Audrey is telling Cassie all sorts of weird things that are being said, it looks like people are trying to cause a ton of trouble for their fifteen-year-old son, Leo, Cassie can’t figure out if Sam left her voluntarily, and the detective assigned to all of this seems very odd most of the time.

One aspect that l loved about this novel is that I truly had no idea who could be trusted throughout the entire novel. Hidden agendas, guilt, and dishonesty were suggested and hinted at with almost every single character (except the 6-year-old). I love not knowing who the good guy is and who the bad guy is! There were times I felt like Cassie had completely lost all sense of reason. There were several times that I doubted her friends. Then, she suddenly decides to call her father, Red, whom she hasn’t spoken to in six years and I started to wonder about him.

Honestly, there were times that this book was exhausting, but only because my brain was on fire trying to figure out what in the hell was happening. I am so happy that I decided to give this one a try and even happier that I discovered a new and very talented author. My only criticism (and it’s very small), is that the last 20% of the novel didn’t seem as tight and well-written as the majority of the book, and some things were a bit too far-fetched. I will admit to some eye rolls from time to time and the occasional, “seriously???” Nevertheless, I highly recommend this to thriller fans! It’s fast-paced, original, and will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

I was intrigued by this story as I love a good psychological thriller. However, I did not like the story as much as I would have liked. Yes it had some suspense and twists but I found myself confused at times and rereading passages. It didn’t have that wow factor for me. There is a lot of potential with this story and I know it will be someone’s treasure. So I encourage people to give it a chance. Just because it was not for me doesn’t mean it’s like that for everyone.

Ugh. This book is just not good.

I would have stopped reading had the chapters not been so short (plus once I hit the halfway point, I felt like I needed to know the ending, despite how uninvested in the story I was). Too many characters, a convoluted and unbelievable plot, and an extremely unintelligent protagonist named Cassie. Not to mention all the inane details and commentary - half of which could be cut out. Every other sentence was Cassie going off on an tangent and describing an event or something else entirely that was completely irrelevant. Oh, and the dialogue... just awful.

Nonetheless, thank you to NetGalley & HarperCollins for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Wow this was quite a thrilling ride. I just finished and i think i'm out of breath and my head is spinning! This book starts off with a bang and although it let up in parts - i found myself enjoying this book a lot. I find a lot of thrillers predictable these days and this one didn't disappoint.

No shortage of villains in this brilliant mystery! I literally could not stop reading and in fact stayed up LATE because I refused to fall asleep UNTIL I knew the outcome. Like a python, the plot twisted around and in on itself so many times! My total absorption reminded me of my experience reading the novels of Robyn Harding, who also pens behind-the-scenes tales of seemingly perfect marriages and families, and covert secrets and villainies. NO BAD DEED is a "what you see is not what you get" tale and an amazingly engrossing novel. Ms. Chavez, please write more. Quickly!

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. This book is one wild, crazy ride! Action packed from the very first page and will keep you reeling long after it’s over. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Veterinarian Cassie Larkin is on her way home from the animal clinic and stop to intervene in a violent altercation between a strange man and woman. Cassie is determined to save the woman's life even when it's clear she is putting herself in danger to do so. Her own marriage was already strained and her husband Sam isn't happy Cassie risked her life for a stranger. The next night, Sam disappears while taking their young daughter trick-or-treating and Cassie won't stop until she gets answers to where Sam went and why.

This book started out so good and I couldn't wait to find out what happened to Sam and how or if it was tied to the woman Cassie stopped to help. This exciting pace continued through the first two-thirds of the book. Cassie is an interesting character and I wanted things to work out for her. The narrative was tense, suspenseful, and scary and I didn't want to put the book down. Then, the book started to go downhill. Things got strange and confusing and hard to believe. Instead of eagerly turning the pages, I started reading just to get through to the end. This book could have been so much better if the last part would have been as good as the beginning, but I would rate it 3.5 stars. Overall, I was disappointed but I would read other book by this author because of the potential this story had.

This is an action packed thriller. Majority of story takes place in Santa Rosa, CA. Why is it when someone tries to help most times they get the short end of the stick. You would think the same about this book but it is like and onion, so may layers to the book. You may think that you have it figured out then a trick is thrown at you. So much goes on in this book that you want to get to the finish line. I am giving this book 4.5 stars.

My head is spinning. Wow, that was a wild ride!!!

Driving home from work one night, Cassie Larkin sees what she assumes to be a domestic conflict happening on the side of the road.

She stops her car and calls 911. Although the operator tells her to remain in her vehicle, Cassie cannot sit idly by while this woman gets assaulted or worse.

As she breaks up the altercation, the man tells her that if she lets him kill this woman, he will let her live. Basically, this woman's life for hers, but Cassie isn't having that.

Eventually, the man flees, but unfortunately he does so in Cassie's van. Now the psycho has her handbag, complete with identification, family photos, address, and her house keys.

Without putting too fine a point on it, this is basically my worse nightmare come to the page. Reading this opening scene, I was so prepared to throw this book in the freezer.

It's like Heather Chavez knew exactly what to write to freak me the heck out!

And I cherish that.

When Cassie's husband disappears the next night, on Halloween, while out trick-or-treating with their 6-year old daughter, her instincts tell her something is terribly wrong.

After she reports it, it seems the cops just believe this is a case of a man leaving his family. Cassie knows better, however, and begins her own investigation.

While it did surprise me that the cops didn't take his disappearance more seriously, especially considering they knew the crazy, violent guy who stole her vehicle had her keys and information, I did love Cassie getting involved and looking into his disappearance herself.

Amateur sleuthing is one of my favorite tropes in a thriller and I think Chavez did a great job with it here.

This story took so many crazy turns, there was no way to predict what was going to happen next. As secrets begin to come out from Cassie's own dark past, you know the final reveal will probably blow you away.

The final scenes did not disappoint!

I was so impressed with this. I was creeped out almost the entire time and it was so much fun. I cannot wait to read more from Chavez!

Thank you so much to the publisher, William Morrow, and NetGalley, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I truly appreciate it!

This book had a really promising start but the amount of characters and plot twists and turns had my head spinning. It was very difficult to keep track of and then I began to lose interest. Just not the book for me but an interesting premise.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and William Morrow to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The book started off great and by middle fell flat. Did not pick up in ending. Almost could not finish book. Really sad.

This was a fast paced thriller that I finished in a few hours!
The beginning was better than the ending and towards the end I was bored but that could be because I read a lot of thrillers.
Thanks to Netgalley for my advanced ebook copy .

I'll give credit to the author - this book certainly was fast-paced, exciting, and action-packed. The premise is certainly interesting: Our protagonist Cassie, a veterinarian, wife, and mother of two is driving home from work one day and sees a man violently attacking a woman about a hundred meters from her. She calls 911 and they advise her to stay in her car, but Cassie doesn't heed those instructions. She rushes over to the man and woman to try to save her. The man, a mean, beefy guy named Carver Sweet, warns Cassie: Let her die, and I'll let you live. Cassie still doesn't listen. The man runs off to her car, which has her address and info of Cassie's husband and two children. The very next day, Cassie's husband disappears.

I liked how fast-paced this book was - it jumps right into the action and doesn't back down until the last page. However, as the plot develops and as Cassie attempts to track down her husband and understand the meaning behind all of this happening to her, I slowly lost my grip on the plot. The author packs a ton of reveals into the last 15% of the book that completely change the game - by the ending, I obviously knew what actions were happening, but forgot or didn't understand the deeper story behind it. Sure, there were twists, but I did not like the pacing and method of the reveals - it felt almost akin to the villain explaining why they did it all at the end of a Scooby Doo mystery.

The writing is great. I loved the energy and thrills served up, despite the confusing ending. Can't wait for Chavez's next book. Thank you to William Morrow for the ARC via Netgalley!

3.5 stars. Quick read that kept me engaged the whole time. I guessed some of the twists but others left me pleasantly surprised.

I loved Cassie's dedication to her children, and her relationship with her husband left me guessing.

I was still a little unclear on someone's motives for the ending (no spoilers here) but overall I'd definitely pick up another book by this author.

This is a very suspenseful thriller, with lots of twists and turns. A few parts did feel a little unrealistic but overall a fun and fast read!

If this is the author's debut, she has a lot to live up to in her next book! This was an unpredictable and far-fetched (in the best possible way!!!) read that kept me guessing the whole time! I have found that thrillers have become predictable and too similar lately, so this was a refreshing read for me! I highly recommend it and cannot wait for the author's next book!

What a fun thriller - the twists kept coming and I was along for the ride!! Cassie is on her way home from work one night when she witnessed an assault happening on the side of the road. She stops to help and the man threatens her - and then steals her car with her license and registration still in it so he knows where she lives.

This was just the type of book I was looking for - kept me on the edge of my seat and I didn’t predict where it was heading. I also really really enjoyed the bits of humor intersperses in Cassie’s thoughts.

There were a few parts that got a little confusing toward the end - but overall a very solid debut and consider me already in line for the author’s next book! Thank you very much to the publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read an advance copy.

No Bad Deed was exactly what I needed at this moment. It was super developed and if you thought you could predict the ending.... be prepared for you not to get it right! The story unfolded in so many ways like peeling an onion. Thoroughly recommend you to read this because you won’t regret it!

Thanks to Netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

This was a twisty thriller but even with that I wasn’t super excited to read it. I read it a bit fast for 70% and then had a hard time keeping characters and plot lines straight. Then I didn’t really care what happened.

This is similar to a lot of thrillers I’ve read recently and maybe that’s why I wasn’t super excited. It was just okay for me.

Kudos to Heather Chavez on a great debut novel! I was grabbed from the very start and found this book to be captivating and very thrilling. I had to put it down to attend to real life and all I could think about was when I was going to get to sit down and read again to finish!!

The only qualms I had was at right about the 75% point, the story turned very unbelievable to me with the main character tracking down a convicted pedophile, but even with that and the rest of the book being a stretch (although some parts can/have happened in real life), it was highly entertaining.

Looking for a good domestic-type thriller? This is it!

Thank you to Netgalley for approving this free arc for an honest review.
