Thank you NetGalley and Kids Can Press for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

This brilliantly illustrated book on plants and gardening is a wonderful introduction for children to plants in our world. It discusses form and function of plants. It talks about how seasons affect the life cycle and growth of plants.

The book encourages further investigation of plants and it also encourages taking care of the things that grow in our world. This is not a gardening book for children. Its focus is on a respect for the plant world and how it interacts with the rest of nature.

Grade school age children could read this book. Also, the information in the book could be used as a springboard for simple science projects.

A quick book, really nice images. A good introduction to the growth cycle of plants and some basic information. Terms are written and part of the image.

Certainly worth a place in school libraries, and in the view of home tutors, this conveys a lot of information about plant life very well. It covers quite a lot of depth – even back in my day we didn't cover monocots and dicots until secondary school, but they're here, as is a lot more of the annual cycle of flowering plants, peculiar habitats and lifestyles for some species, and more. Only the fact it's really only good for a North American audience prevents me from giving it five stars, but with this Canadian publishing house I didn't expect anything else. Clear, colourful illustrations reinforce the learning to be had here, and this is well worth the investment.

With incredible illustrations and non-confrontational text, Nature All Around: Plants focuses on making nature a little more accessible.  On each page, a variety of plants are shown--from poisonous to pretty to plentiful.  Not only that, but Hickman outlays just how plants become plants, beginning with seeds, the seasons, photosynthesis, their basic components, how they pollinate, and why some plants are different than others.  Also important, I find, is her focus on native plants and supporting the local agriculture before going out and planting whatever one can find--doing so creates a less suffocating area for the rest of the location's indigenous plants!  Moreso, she educates us on the fact that not all plants can survive just wherever--in fact, many plants depend upon a specific range of temperature, humidity, and precipitation in order to thrive.

Overall, I found this a hugely informative book that is able to teach even adults like me new things about plants and how they exist on our planet.  Definitely worth reading if your little one is interested in gardening or nature!

I loved this book and will keep it for many years to come. It's an easy reference guild for flowers, both native and foreign. My kids loved looking at the different descriptions. It's a great book overall for flower lovers!

A beautiful book about plants in each of the four seasons. Where they come from. How they grow. Their defences. It was a really pretty learning experience I love when learning is pretty.

This is a beautifully illustrated short book that teaches children about plants, balancing scientific information with lovely drawings. Great for nature studies, it goes into quite a bit of information for budding (no pun intended!) naturalists.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
