I received a copy of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Duck got you a present, but it was a lot of work and he will tell you all the things that went wrong along the way. Cute book.

Our narrator, the duck is at his best friend's birthday party. When the time comes to open gifts he says, "I wanted to get you the greatest present ever!" From there, this story heads off in an extremely imaginative narrative. Duck knows what his friend likes, but turning that into a gift proves to be difficult. The illustrations were terrific, they added so much to the story. And the twist at the end was perfect, it delighted this retired teacher. I read this to my 6 year old grandson and he really enjoyed it. He thought the things that happened to the various gifts was funny and asked me to read it again, that means it was a hit. When I asked him what he thought, he said the duck was funny, he couldn't make some of those things. I asked what he thought of the ending and he loved it. I definitely recommend this one.

The appeal of this book is in the illustrations. The story is fun in and of itself. While the ending is not much of a surprise, the lengths to which the duck goes to make a gift are whimsical and likely to get a laugh from a kid. Each attempt fails for a reasonably logical reason. And the desire is to give an amazing present is driven by wanting to make the friend happy, not to gather any glory for itself. It's fun and the illustrations are quirky.

I begin with the illustrations which are spot on for both the book and the age-level reader. Really funny and added to the book in my opinion. As for the story, we have a duck who is trying to find just the right present for "your" birthday present. Oh, he has ideas. Small ideas like socks, or ice cream; big ideas like a car or dinosaur or even a rocket ship. Somehow nothing goes right and all those ideas fall through for one silly reason or another. By the end we see that the best present has nothing to do with any of those things, but instead is a personal present for duck and "you" the reader. I think little kids will get a real kick out of this book and it works as both a book you can read to your preschool children or even a grade 1-3 year reader can enjoy this. There is nothing better than a birthday and this is certainly a fun present for anyone having a birthday or any day of the year!!!

This book has excellent graphics. The story is a wonderful. It shows children to be creative and thoughtful when getting presents for birthdays. I would read this in the classroom for sure! this is a book I would recommend to teachers and librarians k-5.

I Got You a Present! is really so cute and inventive! All the big, imaginative, and exciting presents that would make the BEST present don't pan out - and have the funniest reasons for why they don't. Bright illustrations and a funny and easy to read story make this a fun and cute read. Great for silly moments that don't need much educational support.

If a birthday card and book ever had a baby this would be it. I Got You a Present would be the perfect gift for a child between ages 4-6. This simple silly book wouldn't hold up in a classroom setting but I could grandparents snuggled up with there grand kids at a birthday celebration.

Duck wanted to get his good friend the an amazing birthday present, but things don't go as he planned. I love how the author shows Duck's thought process throughout the book with a splash of humor. My five year old loved the illustrations and the story. We loved the great twist at the end!

This book was quite entertaining! I will definitely be purchasing this book for my classroom library! I can see the book being read quite a bit just because of the colorful and fun cover! I enjoyed the repetitiveness and I think young children enjoy this time of writing also!

This is a great read along book. The flow is great and the illustrations are bright and colorful. This is a great book for preschoolers. The sentiment of the book is very sweet.

This was a cute storybook. While I really enjoyed the overall experience, I found the story to be a bit more repetitive than I would have liked for the particular reading level of the writing. Wonderful illustrations, and a fun overall tale.

I Got You a Present is an adorable and heartwarming story about a duck trying to find the perfect present for YOU, the reader! Speaking from experience (I’m a preschool teacher), my students absolutely love this writing style, where the narrator speaks directly to the reader. I don’t know if younger children will find the end of the story quite as touching as I did, but I know for a FACT that they will enjoy the silly ride! I’m happy to be adding this book to my classroom wish list, as well!

We are a huge fan of books and reading at this house. My son liked this book. It was the perfect balance of silly and fun.

The main character has one ultimate task: finding a present. This leads him down a rabbit hole of finding bigger and better presents.

This book is a story about finding the perfect gift for a friend's birthday party. He goes through many different presents before he finds the right one, and it is fun to see all the different options he has! The illustrations really brought the narrative to life and helped me enjoy it even more. Overall, this is a cute little book that I would 100% use in future storytimes.

3.5 stars. Winning illustrations, some humor, and the idea that a good story can turn “nothing” into a great gift—the gift of the story. I felt like it was a little long for a repetitive tale—a few examples of the presents Duck had *hoped* to give his friend could have been left out (in storytime, I’ll leave out the song Duck tells us he wrote but that didn’t seem good enough, and the apple juice jet pack, because the idea didn’t really get explored). But I’m definitely purchasing this for my library, imagine it will be a popular checkout from the cover alone (which is how many books get checked out!), and already plan to use it as, if not a first choice, a backup at a party-themed storytime.

It's birthday time and duck has a wild time telling all about the gift he got. Adorable animal characters and fun mishaps come to a satisfying ending. Kids will enjoy the ideas and problems while learning about friendship. Expect it to be a hilarious read-aloud for young audiences

I can not wait to read this at storytime. It will be so much fun. Duck is at a birthday party and he was going to bring the best present every, but something kept happening to it. This story full of imagination and heart. I will have you smiling from cheek to cheek. The author did such a good job at giving the duck a voice that this could be very interactive when reading to others.

I think the author based the Duck character on me, because I always have these great plans for gifts, and then they never work out. Mainly because I'm either too lazy, or I procrastinate for too long.

A cute, silly story that kids and adults will enjoy.

It's a charming children's story of a duck, who is determined to find the ultimate present for their friend. They've tried to find the perfect present and want to make sure that their friend is happy. There's a lovely twist at the end of the book and makes for a good conversation with a child about what really is the best present you can give. It could have had a better moral but is a simple entertaining book overall.
