You have me at the premise, but the execution fell short. The repetitive narrative, mixed with the ending left much to be desired and outweighed the atmospheric writing.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

I have said before in other recent reviews that I think I’ve outgrown young adult books and that’s on me not the author or the book.

The mystery in this was ok. What happened to Jo’s mother? Why is her sister alone in the woods? But I just couldn’t get into it with no attachment to the teens in the story. Plus the book was way too long. I read enough to leave an honest review.

Jo has a secret at 15 years old and that is she has a twin sister and her name is Lee. Lee is feral and no one believes Jo. It wouldn't be fair to give it a 1 star because I absolutely didn't like the book but I didn't want to give it a 2 star because it was written well so I gave it a 3 star. I couldn't get into the book, I didn't like any of the characters. Not one character. The absurdity of it was unreal, Jo gets her self way over her head and makes really poor decisions. Just was a weird book and not my type but that isn't the fault of the author. This book will stick with me because it is so odd, maybe that was the point? Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

this was a good read, not the type of book i typically chose but it held my interest and kept leading me forward. I will most likely attempt to read another one of her books in the future.

I gave this a four out of five stars I really enjoyed this book. I liked the growth of the characters and the relationship between the sisters. The main character is selfish in the beginning and only cares what happens to her. I'm glad her aunt has her growth in this story. I enjoyed this so much.

Some Kind of Animal is a little odd, and likely isn't for everyone, but I enjoyed it. The main character has a secret sister who lives in the woods, but she doesn't know the circumstances around why that is. Her sister has become more animal than human, and the consequences of that unfold over the course of the book. I really enjoyed the mystery, though the characters were a little clunky at times. I appreciated how the family came together in the end, even after all the hardship they faced.

This books was…fine. It kept me entertained yet didn’t have me on the edge of my seat dying to know what happens next. At times I felt the plot wasn’t progressing much. I didn’t connect with any of the characters which made rooting for them hard to do. Overall, it was a solid book but probably not on my list of recommendations.

Some Kind of Animal, by Maria Romasco-Moore, is unlike any kind of novel I have ever read before. The novel follows the protagonist, Jo, who has lived with her Aunt Aggie ever since her mom disappeared fifteen years ago. No one knows what happened to her, but she's presumed dead by everyone in town. What everyone else doesn't know is that every night, Jo sneaks out of her room and goes running in the woods with her twin sister. No one else knows of her existence, and if she even spoke of it now no one would believe her. Her sister Lee is wild, having grown up in the woods, but Jo is the only person Lee has and someday Jo is going to join her in the woods. But then Lee attacks one of Jo's friends and everyone thinks that Jo did it...on account of them being twins. Things continue to go sideways and Jo is about to join Lee in the woods a lot sooner than she anticipated. Bizarre, unconventional, thrilling and a little awkward, this novel really picked up halfway through and became a page-turner! The ending was a bit rushed in my opinion and not as great as I wanted it to be, but I still enjoyed the novel as a whole. 3.5 stars!

I didnt particularly enjoy this book. Maybe someone who loves YA books will, but it really wasn't for me.

I am disappointed with this book. I was expecting one thing and received another. It had potential but it was not well written.

I was very excited to read this book when I read the blurb "for fans of Wilder Girls and Sadie", mostly because I feral child is a topic I find fascinating, but unfortunately it was disappointing. It was repetitive and the plot felt rushed and inconsistent.

Some Kind of Animal is the story of Jo, growing up in a small town without a mother, but a wild twin sister that no one believes is real. But her twin, Lee, is wild and starts getting Jo in trouble for her actions, particularly when she bites a kid. Jo is doing her best to grow up in a world of conflicting messages, learn about her mother, and protect her sister, but that is getting harder by the day.

What I liked:
- This book presents interesting commentary on how religion can affect us and how we think, even if we know it's wrong.
- The relationship between Jo and Lee is really supportive.

What I disliked:
- The pacing of this book is HORRIBLE. A lot happens towards the middle that makes you think the end is coming, that this is the climax, but it's not. Then we spend a bunch of time doing nothing and it's just so... boring... like why even include that? Just finish the book!
- Jo should be smarter than she is. Like, you have to know that your sister is not getting enough food, come on. I know she's a teen but still. And honestly Jo just has so many personality flaws that it becomes hard to root for her like you're supposed to in this story.

Ultimately I can't really recommend this book, mostly because of the pacing issues with not enough pay-off.
